Zo and Martin almost fought

When Kenyon Martin, a fourth-year forward, jumped in by mocking Mourning's recent performance on the court and commenting that Mourning would not have to run if he would improve his rebounding, Mourning attacked Martin's leadership and toughness.
Mourning, who signed with the Nets this summer after kidney disease cost him all of last season and nearly the entire 2000-1 season, told Martin: "At least I'm out there on the court, not in the training room. I'm trying to make the best of my time."

"You can't be a leader in the trainer's room crying, `My ankle, my ankle,' " Mourning added, referring to the sprained ankle that sidelined Martin for five games. Martin responded by mocking Mourning, muttering, "My kidney, my kidney."

Mourning did not immediately react to that comment. But when the players separated into groups for the next part of practice, he suddenly charged toward Martin before being restrained by teammates as he yelled, using more profanity: "What did you say about my kidney? Don't talk about my kidney. I'll put you on your back."

That comment by Martin was way below the belt. Zo is a NBA veteran, 1 of the best centers in his days (back in the days when the NBA had quallity centers like Hakeem, Shaq, David, Pat etc...), made alot of All-Star Teams, Defensive player awards...and then say something like that.....about the kidney´s :? .....Thats just very very wrong and childish (N)

A kidney is something much more serious than a sprained ankle. Besides, ZO can't help it that he has a kidney disease not an injury. Besides, it seems that Martin started the whole thing. It's too bad the other Nets got in the way because I would have loved to see Alonzo just pound Martin into the ground.

:? yeh thats really really low, a kidney disease that could have robbed zo of his life, and his own teammates uses that as ammunition in an argument? :x ..

martin sure has a big mouth for someone who has no game

Yes youre right, making fun of a ankle injury is wrong, if Martin wouldnt say anything after that I would blame zo for saying that, but come one....saying something about a disease which is caused natural and could take someones life, thats terrible.....I really lost alot of respect to Mr Kenyon Martin because of that

^^do you really think people are going to take you seriously when you type like that?

....this is just another example of the modern NBA player - young players having no respect

The team is fine.

The team is probably better than ever... you trolls can all go home. Nothing to see here. Scott even said there have been dozens of other fights in the NJ locker room... including altercations between RJ and K-Mart.

And now they joke around together.

You trolls don't know the team. Neither do I.

But you want to know my opinion?

* Alonzo Mourning. He hasn't done * for the Nets. I could give a flying * what he did for Miami. Miami isn't New Jersey. I didn't watch the old Heat.

Martin and Jefferson, on the other hand, have been integral parts in the NJ lineup for 2 straight seasons.

If you can't take being laughed at, retire.

QQ some more.

And if you can dish out the trashtalk, expect it back. "My kidney, my kidney!" IS FUNNY. I LAUGHED WHEN I READ IT.

Mourning hasn't proven jack * to me. He is not a leader on the team *I* watch. I hope that changes. I hope he becomes capable of playing more... but he won't get the minutes unless he produces. He needs to rebound.

Once he helps my team, maybe then I'll care about his feelings and the fragility of them.

Sat Nov 22, 2003 1:57 pm

Mourning might not be the player he once was, he might not be the leader of the Nets, and he probably shouldn't have responded to Martin's original comments by questioning K-Mart's leadership and toughness, but K-Mart's comments are indeed below the belt, and highly unnecessary.

You trolls don't know the team. Neither do I.

Don't insult your fellow forum members. After the stunt you pulled copying other people's posts, you are in no position to call anyone else a troll.

If you can't take being laughed at, retire.

I think you're missing the point.

And if you can dish out the trashtalk, expect it back. "My kidney, my kidney!" IS FUNNY. I LAUGHED WHEN I READ IT.

That's just sick. You have a very, very sick sense of humour.

oh, yall get me wrong, i wasnt defending martin, i jus meant 2 point out that both of them acted childish

Sat Nov 22, 2003 11:40 pm

pffft, Martin is an idiot. He shouldn't of crossed the line with hte kidney comment, especially knowing that Zo would flatten him. Is he just trunna be a bad ass? i remember last season he had his nose broken and Tim Hardaway said that he deserved it for trunna be this tough guy

Sat Nov 22, 2003 11:47 pm

from a Nets stand point of view i wouldn't be happy
Kidd-Scott relations aren't very strong and now this. It has tragedy written over it a.k.a Fail Blazers symptom

Sat Nov 22, 2003 11:54 pm

i agree with showstopper to a degree. i think the media is blowing this out of proportion. the nets aren't off to a blazing start, so the media is like white on rice when they hear something negative happening in a team practice. this isn't like sprewell choking pj and then coming back later with a 2x4.

the nets play toronto at home later this afternoon and should win. probably cameras will be all over kmart and zo 'jeter-cam' style. the nets players will make post game comments along the lines of "it was taken out of proportion", "zo and kmart get along just fine". then we get to watch it on sportscenter.

boo to the media

Sun Nov 23, 2003 12:14 am

You can bet that the media person who reported this may have a difficult time around the Nets locker room.

well like one of the commentaters said today in the Cavs and T-Wolves game, "You cant ice a Kidney down"

what Martin said was very stupid, childish and uncalled for.

Zo was close to death because of that im sure.

Sun Nov 23, 2003 3:50 am

Did anyone hear that Richard JJefferson was laughing at this?

I do not have a sick sense of humor but "My Kidney, My Kidney" That is kinda funny....anyways...I still like Richard Jefferson and Kenyon Martin
