Interesting news.

Pistons would get: Anthony, Camby and Green
Nuggets would get: Prince and Wallace
Quite fair trade imo, hope it will be pulled.

I think Pistons gets bit better overall, but still pretty fair, although still Pistons chemistry may be little questionable(depends). This year it´s gonna be very interesting offseason.
Mon Jun 09, 2008 2:08 am
One thing for the Pistons, I don't see a big difference in AI and Melo combination, rather than Billups and Melo combination. Pistons might work out though. AI could be a better player and possibly, end his career with a championship. Nuggets will also get salary cap.
Mon Jun 09, 2008 2:17 am
I'm not so sure this makes the Pistons any better. They'll lose a lot of defense with Sheed and Prince leaving, and Camby is getting pretty old.
Mon Jun 09, 2008 2:23 am
Damn, I bet if the Nuggets pulled that trade AI would be the happiest man on earth.

It would be kind of ironic if Melo were to end up wearing a Pistons uniform... Sounds to me like a lateral move for the Pistons though. Don't they already have enough scoring? I don't watch enough Pistons ball to know how much offensive firepower they have, but it looks like they're one of the better well balanced teams with loads of depth.
Then again, the Pistons have always fallen short and seem to need that extra push to get them over the hump, so making a few changes is what the Pistons definitely need. I don't really see Melo as the kind of player that can do that though.

lol yeah to think they could have just drafted the guy.

Whatever happens I suppose you can't entirely fault their decision, the same as you can't really fault the Heat for deciding to trade for Shaq back in 2004. The Pistons are now looking at acquiring a player they could have had five years ago and Miami is back in the lottery but they've both won championships which is more than twenty six other teams can boast in the past ten years (and more than sixteen teams can boast, period).
As far as the trade is concerned though, I have to agree with Its_adsf in that it seems like a lateral movement for Detroit which is unusual given they're getting a bonafide All-Star but in trading Prince and Wallace the Pistons would be trading away part of their identity for a player who doesn't seem as well-equipped to complement the players left on the roster. Prince gives Detroit a fine defender who is also a more than capable offensive player. Melo's a superior scorer but the Pistons already have some effective offensive weapons. It's not an awful trade by any means but it doesn't seem an ideal fit, certainly no better than the one they already have.
It's not a downright terrible trade for the Nuggets either but it's not really the deal you want to make if you're going to trade your young star player, especially if your hand isn't being forced.
Mon Jun 09, 2008 4:32 am
The trade isn't sure. I just wrote what I saw on other forum.
Mon Jun 09, 2008 4:36 am
I'm aware of that. I suppose I really should have said "potential trade" rather than just "trade". With the Nets supposedly interested in Melo as well, I'd say other teams are much more interested in acquiring him than the Nuggets are in trading him away.
Mon Jun 09, 2008 4:42 am
If I would be the GM of the Nuggets, I wouldn't trade Melo. I would keep him and leave him the main scorer (get rid of AI), Melo could average around 30 PPG, I think, and well, a PG with good defense and passing skills, possibly a veteran that doesn't care about scoring, SG that can shoot wide open three pointers, but doesn't want the ball too much, who is a good roleplayer and good player without the ball. SF = Melo, big men both good passers and good defensive players, at center I would keep Camby. Then the Nuggets would have success, I guess. K-Mart and Camby would work as big men. Though, Nuggets need to update their backcourt, rather than frontcourt. But well, if they believe in Iverson more than Melo, then go for front court.

so instead of just drafting him its gonna cost prince and wallace now? good job
Mon Jun 09, 2008 8:47 am
They got Darko out of it.
Oh wait...
Mon Jun 09, 2008 8:52 am
Nah, Darko was undoubtedly the best steal of the draft.
This smells like a good trade for Detroit, providing it doesn't do too much damage to their chemistry and team defence.
Mon Jun 09, 2008 9:07 am
It would only do good for Nuggets too, imo.
Mon Jun 09, 2008 9:39 am
Darko got them Rodney Stuckey so it's not as bad as it seems....obviously it was a mistake....Chris Bosh was the right pick for them at #2 if they re-drafted....they were right to go with a big man at #2, they just chose the wrong one....
I'm not sure on the trade....I'm a bit torn....firstly, I don't like the trade for Denver....but for Detroit, they win the trade....I would prefer Camby over Rasheed, not due to talent, but Camby brings back a shotblocker....part of me thinks that Pistons should hold onto Prince for his versatility & look at dealing Billups....give Stuckey the reins, bring in a good backup PG, keep Hamilton, add Carmelo, keep Prince & add Camby....
you'd probably start Prince as a 6th man, but with way league is going, quicker is better....Prince's versatility means you can play him next to Melo for long stretches....
either way, deal doesn't make sense for Nuggets....
Mon Jun 09, 2008 10:11 am
I agree that in due time give Stuckey the reins, but look at Austin Croshere in the 2000 finals. If you invest too much in one player after an impressive post season, it can backfire quickly.
I also agree that it's a bad trade for Denver. I don't see why the Nuggets need to make a trade (especially one involving Carmelo) coming off a 50 win season in the toughest conference in the history of the NBA..

touche, another season of Stuckey as 6th man, getting tutored by Billups & Hunter, definitely would help his development....I'm a little surprised that any "potential" deal to Denver hasn't included hometown Colorado product Billups....
Mon Jun 09, 2008 10:52 am
Remember when the Pistons traded for Kobe?
Mon Jun 09, 2008 3:22 pm
Im sorry but i definitely do not see how the nuggets would benefit in this trade. sure they will have a much balanced roster, however, they could easily keep carmelo and trade for other players to add another allstar.
Mon Jun 09, 2008 4:05 pm
I thought Melo = frachise player.
now they want him gone and build team around aging AI?
don't think that's gonna happen.
Mon Jun 09, 2008 5:40 pm
Firstly, Melo should be out of the USA team.

wtf?!? Melo is USA's best player....without Melo, the US has no chance of winning gold....Melo's game is perfectly suited to the international style of game....

USA's best player?
you can't even put the word "best" next to his name at any league..

I think Denver needs to trade AI not Mello, also I think what the Denver Nuggets need to do is improve their defensive system and add some pieces which could contribute to it not trade their franchise player.
As for Detroit if the trade would continue they don't need to trade Tayshaun, but if they could aquire Mello without trading Tayshaun it could also help!!
