"New" graphic engine

Fri Apr 25, 2008 3:17 am

Look at this: Image

This is a mod for GTA SA but I used it in 07. The frames will drop bigtime though.
Here is the developers site: http://boris-vorontsov.narod.ru/index_en.html

I didnt use PS. Maybe somebody contact him ask him about Live. I think hes very busy but maybe we can figure something out.

EDIT: Now I used it 08. Also I now know that i can even even edit. SO this might be some kina new lit5on5  Im not that good in PCs so anybody please try 2!

Fri Apr 25, 2008 6:28 am

huh, interesting, ill mess with it when i get home

Sun Apr 27, 2008 7:23 am

wow,can somebody convert it as a lit5on5?

Sun Apr 27, 2008 8:05 am

Wow that looks nice. Could you post more screens Sportsgamer?

Thanks

It actually looks like shit. We need to contact this guy to see if he would consider making a NBA Live-specific version. The reflections are all white, everything is too washed out, and the framerate is death. The main thing I dislike about it is that it distorts the in-game overlays. It changes their color and makes them transparent.

The only thing that is good about this discovery is that it adds bloom to NBA Live which is like a fake-HDR. If you don't know what HDR is, it is high dynamic range lighting. It's what makes games look incredibly beautiful, like Crysis and BioShock.

Check out the versions he released for other games and see if they perform or look any better.

It can't be "converted" to a lit5on5. It actually adds a feature that pretty much all videocards support.

The one for Flatout does not make the reflections white. It does distort the overlays and makes the menu's unreadable, though. All of them dropped my framerates to the 20's. I tweaked lots of settings and it didn't really look good. I couldn't find anything subtle enough.

Still a good find.

Yep, it is a good find, if only it was cleaned up a little more. Here are some screens of the unedited flatout one

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i250/ ... -43-00.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i250/ ... -47-90.jpg

Then I reduced the bloom by half and got this
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i250/ ... -49-03.jpg

so yea, it looks kinda cool, but I dont think this is really a smart option right now since the game the barely playable with it on

Edit, some comparisons and BTW these are all 2005

About NBA Live. I recieved e-mail from one forum user on that site, but unfortunately delete it with annoyng messages from YouTube and some forum about PM i have, please, e-mail me again.

Here is the link:

So, please send appropriate e-mails. I think only the admin and moderators send the e-mails. So that would be reliable.

hm i sent him one but I just linked to my photobucket images, ill try again

EDIT: I think he meant that he accidentally deleted my email.

High quality download (worth it, youtube sucks)

Jao, that clip is from yours? if its yours what aiact you have? :-)

Tue Apr 29, 2008 4:26 am

That's NBA Live 2005 in the video. He is probably using one of Seushiro's aiact, or a combination of it and his own.

Tue Apr 29, 2008 4:51 am

can i have seushiro's aiact....?

Tue Apr 29, 2008 6:19 am

The problem seems to be that EA continues to think things that are not lights emit light.

I don't see it as adding bloom at all, just washing out and brightning up things. Bloom isn't fake-HDR, it's one aspect of HDR and until someone shows otherwise the Live engine doesn't appear to be coded to use bloom, even with DX and shader intercepts. (Is the engine even written to use DX9?)

He claims to be adding bloom, but I don't see it, I mean GTA:SA already had some bloom effects. Not to mention games like HL2, Stalker, etc. He just seems to be jacking up the brightness and thus making existing lighting look more intense.

Tue Apr 29, 2008 8:09 am

bally09, search the 2005 releases section for seushiro's thread, I believe I have the integra 1.4 aiact with 04 dunks.

benji, youre a whore. but on topic I know its not HDR, pdub has grilled me on that endlessly. This mod uses a d3d9.dll so im assuming that it does run of dx9.

It is definately bloom because the light "shines" off the white jerseys/players. Here is a good comparison of before and after. (I have edited the courts so that when this mod is applied the colors balance out better)

No Effects

Everything on

Different thing off

The creator gave me some shortcuts to try out, I actually dont know what I disabled, lol. Ill try default courts later tonight.

Tue Apr 29, 2008 8:26 am

Jao is it compatible with 2008?

can i have too your aiact.viv? so i can choose? thanks!

Tue Apr 29, 2008 8:37 am

no its not compatible with 08, only 2005 and I havent edited his aiact yet.

JaoSming wrote: This mod uses a d3d9.dll so im assuming that it does run of dx9.

My question was not about the mod, but Live. Does Live use any DX9+ technologies, Shader Model 2-3, etc.?
It is definately bloom because the light "shines" off the white jerseys/players.

Is that bloom? Bloom is lack of focus on the light sources in such a way it creates the fringe you see in pictures, not "shine," is it not?

In any event, even in those photos I have yet to see proof that there's any actual light sources in the game, which is the only way to get "360 Lightning" or such.

Last one is best looking, even if too intense, if that's anything.

EDIT: Revision

Tue Apr 29, 2008 8:50 am

It doesn't matter what Live uses. This is a custom shader that intercepts calls between the game and directx. It takes those calls and changes them before they are displayed, hence the 65% framerate drop. Of course they are made for other games, but an optimized one could have abetter framerate and look for nba live. The one thing that would need to be addressed is the HUD/overlays do not respond well to the effect because it is basically being applied to the screen. People have added bloom effects to emulated console games with a similar method. I honestly don't think bloom would look really good in nba live unless it were very subtle. The two things that could improve Live's currentgen look would be normal mapping and depth of field.

If Boris is interested in writing one specific for NBA Live, the one feature I would like is to add normal mapping with about 5 basic textures for arms, legs, heads, and uniforms. If that's even possible.

Tue Apr 29, 2008 8:59 am

Yeah, I know what it does, that's why it can't give Live "bloom" or anything else because it is not actually changing the code of Live's engine. There aren't any legitimate light sources to produce the bloom effect from.

If Live isn't even making SM2 level calls, I don't see how any of that can be pulled off. Especially with the knowledge of this community. You can't just change shaders to create things the engine doesn't originally produce.

I'd be really interested to see these games bloom have been added to. I've seen cel-shaders among plenty of other cool things, but legitimate bloom?
because it is basically being applied to the screen.

Right, right, exactly my point. It's not adding bloom, it's just basically saturating and boosting the brightness of shaders.

Tue Apr 29, 2008 9:13 am

right, and this wasnt created for nba live. The version Im showing is for Flatout 2 and there are other version for San Andreas, RE4 and some other games.

Sun May 04, 2008 7:31 am

he is working on depth of field
