NLSC forum members sim game or 1-1?

Postby Leander on Tue Apr 15, 2008 6:17 am

Don't know if somebody has made this proposal before.

We could play a sim game together.

FIRST IDEA:

Simmed season-mode. We hold a draft. All participating NLSC members pick their players. Then somebody created a new season with user-controlled teams only, selects the fantasy draft and picks the players for all NLSC teams. => this person assigns the players that WE - the forum members - picked before in this forum.

Then a season is simmed and we'll see who wins.

SECOND IDEA:

A cpu vs. cpu 1 on 1 league.

Each participating forum member selects e.g. FOUR NBA players for his team squad. They should be good in 1 on 1 games.

e.g. I pick Nowitzki, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash.
Andrew picks Ron Artest, A. Stoudamire and Elton Brand and O' Neal.

There can also be a salary cap...each NLSC member can "buy" players for a total overall rating of x.

The NLSC member who has a away game has to select an NBA player from his squad first. Next, his NLSC opponent with home advantage selects one of his players. A game 1-on-1 is played...cpu vs cpu...by the person hosting the tournament.

The winner advances to the next round.
Next round the same NBA player may not be picked again. You have to use one of the other three. The tournament starts with 16 teams...k.o. system. 16, 8, 4, 2.

It is similar to Pokemon.

===============

Personally, I prefer the second idea. It is exciting and has some strategic elements. If the salary cap is not that high you can afford two good players but have to buy two low-rated ones...then you have to select wisely whom to use in which round.

I could host such a 1 on 1 tournament with NBA Live 2005. Who wants to join? All you have to do is to a) own the game and download my roster OR b) download my players-file and open it with a DB editor.

Next, you make a list of players you would like to pick and who do not exceed your salary cap.
The players are then selected in the forum, one by one. The draft order is randomized.

e.g. Andrew, Leander, Jonthefon, buzzy...

=> Andrew posts his pick in a post...then Leander, then Jonthefon, then buzzy... ... .... then again Andrew, Leander etc.

I think something like this has been done before..
Anyway, I like the first one a little better because the second one can be a little unfair if more than one person wants to have LeBron or Kobe on their squad.

The first idea is pretty much the concept behind sim leagues, it would probably be the more popular approach though there have been a few attempts at 1-on-1 leagues in the past.

I'd personally like to see a league that allows people to take control of their team in game. Simulating everything just seems to defeat most of the fun for me

There are offline leagues that have done that, requiring the user to play games against the CPU and submitting the results.
