This will likely change as the team adjusts to Kidd, but so far the trade results are questionable for Dallas, and fantastic for the Nets:

Am I looking at the wrong stats here? Because in the games after the Kidd trade, Dallas haven't had a game over 102 points. Link But anyway, what about defensive numbers? Kidd isn't the defender he once was, but his defense still is one of the reasons Dallas traded for him.

Since going to Dallas, his individual stats aren't as bad (not counting tonight's game), his SPG is at 3.7, FG is up over 50%, and his 3PT is at an even 40%. Could be a fluke, it's only 5 games, but they have gone 3-2 since he has played for them.

Oh look, I have another point to prove that this trade was wrong. Harris comes one for the Nets, sparks them with 21 points and 3 threes. Saved my fantasy team. And if he was still in Dallas, he would have kicked San Antonio's ass.

But instead, Kidd plays pretty well, Dirk wastes free throws he should've made (22? Wade-style, and Dallas was still screwed by the refs, especially that ratbag Bruce Bowen), and then Avery goes and benches Kidd, a supposedly "better" defender than Harris on the last few plays of the game, and Dallas blows a game against a team they've beaten well over the last couple of years.

GREAT TRADE!

They need a reasonable backup for Kidd to prevent the offence being stagnant like four-week-old bread while he's off. Shame Cassell's going to Boston.

Avery goes and benches Kidd, a supposedly "better" defender than Harris on the last few plays of the game, and Dallas blows a game against a team they've beaten well over the last couple of years.

Kidd was benched for the final offensive posession, so I'm not sure where your defense comment comes in to play.

Oh no, Dallas lost to San Antonio in San Antonio by 3 points, everything is falling apart for them.

Trade still not looking too great for Dallas after nine games. Not just because they are 4-5 since the trade.

They better hope the trade pans out. They are only 1.5 games ahead of the Nuggets, and at this rate, either Phoenix or Dallas will be left out of the playoffs!

With Denver's loss today, they dropped to 2.5 games back on Dallas and 3 on Phoenix. I think Golden State will be overtaken and miss out before Dallas and or Phoenix slide out of the top eight.

My (very biased) vote would still go to one of the seasons in the mid to late 90s but I'd agree that the Western race, Boston's revival and all the blockbusters have made it one of the most interesting regular seasons in recent years. I can't say I've enjoyed the Bulls' season all that much though.
