That's what I like about the contest this year. The dunk contest has often had a bad rap since the mid 90s for glorifying athleticism rather than skill, so it's great to see players enthusiastic about it and wanting to put on a show.
There was some awesome stuff in that Howard video, he was being pretty innovative with those lobs off the back of the glass and tapping the ball off the board off the bounce before throwing it down. If he pulls any of that off in the actual contest, he's in with a good chance despite being the token big man.
The only possible problem with these sneak peeks is that while it fires people up for the contest, it does remove the element of surprise. Still, if they go out and repeat those dunks in front of a crowd of 20,000 people it'll still be exciting and they'll still get high scores.

I think Moon's sneak peek was better than Dwight's cuz it doesn't give everything away. It's a shame tha with all the gimmicks around the contest that they won't raise the basket to 12 ft like Dwight wanted to.

Dwight will never really want to raise the rim to 12 feet even if he says it publicly. He knows Moon and Gay can also dunk in that height.
If Moon and Gay dunks on a 12 feet rim it makes Dwight an automatic loser because people shorter than him can make it too.
The "bigman" disadvantage is really on Dwight.

He says he can do a 360 on a 12 ft rim, and a between the legs on a 11½ rim. I doubt any of the other guys can do that.

I doubt he can do it. Proof or ban Dwight.

And it would be well deserved if MJ slapped a sticker on the backboard.

Minnesota’s Gerald Green has been busy getting ready to defend his title in next Saturday’s All-Star weekend dunk contest in New Orleans
Leaning on dramatic effect, the former Celtic has been working on a jam in which he takes a handoff from teammate Rashad McCants, who is sitting atop a ladder, before sending the ball through.
Sat Feb 16, 2008 10:06 am
Depending how high he jumps and what he does with the ball after McCants hands it off to him, that might not be enough. It seems more like a case of using a prop for the sake of using a prop.

That's true. It's basically an alleyoop with a gimmick. However, he may get extra points for creativity rather then the common alleyoop or self alleyoop. Also, if the dunk is more difficult then just a throw down after the catch, it could get him a good score.

It's hard to be original these days, Gerald's simply trying to come up with something new. The table last year was sort of lame, but the original intention was for it to be a slot machine, but the NBA nixed the idea.

Here's what you have to do, go to raptorsnation.net then you'll see on the top links, first you have to download sopcast then click one of the links for All-Star Saturday Night.

Should we also make this the Official All-Star Saturday/All Star Weekend Talk thread? Anyways, since there isn't an official thread yet, I'll make a comment about the Shooting Stars competition here. I'm surprised Phx and SA chose bigmen to represent them in this competition, and also sort of surprised Chicago choosing Duhon to represent them instead of a better shooter in Hinrich or Gordon.
Oh by the way, you will get Kapwned and Mooned tonight.
EDIT: Lol...Duncan and Robinson serving me crow.
EDIT 2: I hate the amount of commercial breaks.

Seconded.

Lmao at Wade's turn for the Skills Competition. He lost the ball during the dribbling part around the fake defenders

. At the shooting part, his first 2 or 3 shots missed, so to prevent time wasting he just grabbed the last 2 or 3 balls and randomly threw it

. He also struggled in the passing after that, and the final layup he missed.

thank god for DVR. and NBA Street Vol. 2.
disappointed CP didn't win, but Deron had a
perfect run in the finals.

YOU HAVE BEEN KAPWNED!
Sun Feb 17, 2008 1:17 pm
wtf ? 46 for the "Birthday Cake" ? That was the most original dunk I've ever seen and he only gets 46 ?
Sun Feb 17, 2008 1:17 pm
Heh, Gerald Green's dunk was cool.
Sun Feb 17, 2008 1:30 pm
omfg, howard's dunk was fucking hilarious
Sun Feb 17, 2008 1:32 pm
Howard's dunk...wasn't even a dunk..?? Moon's knocked out...

...putting the tape down is definitely a bad idea unless you dunk from there...and having Jason Kapono pass instead of Calderon or Ford pass isn't the best idea...
Sun Feb 17, 2008 1:33 pm
Dwight Howard seems to be the favourite after watching the first round, but look at the poll on this page. He's last. That Superman dunk was sick. Jamario Moon should have threw it down like that on his freethrow line dunk.
Sun Feb 17, 2008 1:33 pm
So much for Moon's guarantee.
