Hamilton is an odd choice...........he's not a volume shooter, he only shoots when he gets a good look. He's made leaps and bounds on his range, and that explains his 46% shooting. Him and Kapono are the only players not to attempt 100 3's on the season so far.

Of course the contest could have used guys like Korver, Miller, James Jones, but i do want to see a cpl of players that aren't know for their 3 pnts shot in there as well.

Because he only took 120 attempts...126th in the league. One and a half a game.

By comparison that year, Raja Bell only shot 44% but took 445 (7th), and Ray Allen shot 41% but took 653 to lead the league.

Well shit. I still think Hamilton will do okay though. He has a high 3pt rating in NBA video games. :P

I'll go with Kapono to repeat.

That was definitely not his finest hour. Unless Kobe goes completely cold I can't see him scoring as low as five though, given that he's a more proficient three point shooter.

That's true. I remember Steve Smith bowing out with a score of eight in the first round some years ago despite being the league leader in three point percentage at the time.

Mi pick is Peja or Nash, they are truly shooters

Who remembers when Peja won the contest against Wesley Person, when the horn sounded while Peja was shooting? He was losing the final but they repeated and he won

If it were 02-03 or 05-06, Kobe would flat out dominate. But this year, not so much. He can't even make open shots this year. He misses more open shots than contested shots. Kobe's back to the 43% volume shooter he was in 04-05. He's in the same class as an Iverson, Arenas.

Kapono, Gibson or Peja. They all base their game around outside shooting. Kobe is a scorer, Rip is a mid-range shooter and Nash is a passer/scorer.

Peja will be my bet here. Too bad Dirk is not there

I have seen in NBA.com site that Kobe will be replace by Dirk in the shootout.

In that case, I confidently predict Kobe will not win the three point shootout this year.

The announcement, for anyone who's interested.

If you're going to pull out of one all-star event, you should have to pull out of all of them. He shouldnt get to just pick and choose.

He dislocated his pinky finger. It affects his 3pt shooting a lot more than his overall game.

But the fans chose him for the ASG so he has to play, unlike the 3-point shootout where he was just picked to participate by the NBA PR people.

Kapono and Peja are the clear favorites, but I'm going with the darkhorse here and that's BOOOBIE!!! Gibson.

Nash and Nowitzki won't be competiting to win, they'll be too busy trying to outdo each other.

Richard Hamilton? Seriously?
As said before in the thread, even if Rip is having a 46% season, the 3-point contest involves accuracy and volume-shooting of 3's.
Rip will be amazed that he took that much 3's in one minute and that state of shock will make him lose.

I get where you're coming from but in all fairness, the All-Star game itself is a higher honour and Kobe is probably keen to compete, but would prefer to limit his involvement due to the injury. I remember Grant Hill played in the 1996 All-Star Game but pulled out of the dunk contest that same year due to a minor injury.

Well..gibson didnt win but he sure as hell shut the suckers wo underestimated his skills up. With his performance friday and saturday he proved he's one of the top 5 best shooters in the league today. I really hope he learns to run an offense so bron can take a rest at being point guard.

Gibson is as hell as a great shooter. I think his 11 threes in the rookie-sophomore game was a warm-up in the shootout. Nice game to Dirk (Y). Kapono repeat is great as well
