Kidd (finally) traded to Dallas

Nets Listening To Offers For Kidd
While Jason Kidd has not yet asked for a trade out of New Jersey, the Nets have been listening to offers for some time, the New York Post is reporting.

Team president Rod Thorn acknowledged an increase in talks.

"At this point of the year, there's more talk because you're closer to the trade deadline," Thorn said, adding it is "impossible to say" whether his team will stay intact.

This is nothing new of course since despite his talents, Kidd's name always seems to come up in trade rumours. Of course, with the Nets struggling, Kidd in his mid 30s and the notion that when there's enough talk about it there's a good chance a deal will eventually go down, he may well soon be an ex-Net. So that brings us to the next question, where might he end up?

In the offseason I would have thought the Lakers would be the most likely option but now I'm not so sure. As mad as it might seem for the Lakers to pass up Kidd - again - their success so far this season might make them a little wary of giving up their young players who are starting to get the job done. On the other hand, if the Nets are going to settle for an average deal rather than a good one for Kidd, perhaps the Lakers would be willing to take a risk with a couple of their future prospects if it meant a better chance at winning now, before Kobe can think about opting out in a couple of years or contemplating another trade request. I'd assume Bynum would definitely be off the table now though, injury or not.

I don't know, it's sad to see the Nets falling apart already. I've always like the three players and wouldn't want it to end this soon. Carter is declining surprisingly fast and the motivation with them all seems to be gone so I guess it's time to move on.

Word as of lastnight is that his agent asked the nets to trade him....and the Cavs are a major option. Lebron said yesterday that of his top 5 favourite players in the NBA...kidd is number 1. That says "kiss ass" to me.

There's going to be a lot of interested teams.....

Denver - don't see how they can get him w/o parting with AI
Cle - don't have the assets to get Kidd, although stranger things have happened
Dallas - a likely trade partner but how much will they offer?

how about Gooden, Gibson, cap filler, & the Cavs' 2008 1st Round pick?

that leaves Nets with Daniel Gibson & Marcus Williams fighting for starting PG duties....adds more frontcourt help....a mid 1st Round pick this year is solid with the depth that the freshmen will add to that draft class....maybe not what they want, but I don't know if they'll get anything better than cap savings & draft picks....possibly a solid young guard....

Do you guys think Jason Kidd will be gone before the trade deadline? Most rumors I have heard that benefit the Nets aswell is the one with the Nuggets.

i think it was Kleiza, Nene, J.R Smith and first round pick, if that were to happen it would be a scary starting lineup but one of the weakest benches. They would have to get there players in the D-League

That leaves the Cavs a bit thin up front and perhaps mortgages their future a bit, though if they're interested in making a deal that gives them a better chance of getting back to the Finals and winning it all now then perhaps they'd take that risk. They'd probably want a serviceable frontcourt player coming the other way with Kidd though.

It would probably take Terry or Harris for the Nets to give up Kidd (plus whatever filler is needed for the trade to work on both sides) but the Mavericks probably wouldn't want to give either of them up. There's no way Dirk or Howard are involved; apart from being a bad idea given the ages of the players involved, teaming those players with Kidd is a more logical plan than swapping one of them for him. Avery Johnson recently spoke of Harris being an All-Star in the near future so that might just leave Terry and that still seems unlikely. The Nets probably wouldn't accept any deal that didn't include at least one of those players so that might take Dallas out of the running.

Nets would throw in Magloire....or Josh Boone....

I just had a look on RealGM's Trade Checker, that kind of deal would require a lot of cap filler on Cleveland's part to work. They'd probably have to throw in Larry Hughes for it to work. Hughes, Gibson, Gooden and Snow for Kidd and Magloire would work but that's a lot to give up, even for a player of Jason Kidd's calibre.

^ in essence that deal is Gibson & Gooden for Kidd.

I think Cle would do that deal if it had Boone instead of Magloire.

I want to see in a Cavs jersey, LBJ and Kidd would own, with their highlight reels and alley-oops. :)

And this trade could work:
NJ sends:
Kidd, Boone

Cle sends:
Jones, Marshall, Gooden, Snow (all expirings) + a 1st Round Draft Pick

Looks good too me.

Eh, hes getting old, if you're lucky you might get 2-3 good years out of him? I dont think it would be smart for teams to trade new and developing players for Kid.

Hopefully Dallas doesn't send Harris in any trade. If they're going to get Kidd, it's going to be for expiring contracts (not much to say) and draft picks. Maybe send KVH back to New Jersey? :P

It would be a great (and unlikely) story if Kidd comes back to the Mavs.

Big suprise..LeBron wants kidd...

http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/cavs/

LeBron: Get me Kidd
January 29th, 2008

Just got back from Cavs practice this evening at Nike’s world headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. Mary Schmitt Boyer from the Cleveland Plain Dealer just mentioned the name “Jason Kidd” and LeBron James made some pretty candid comments on how badly he wants the Cavs to trade for him. Here it is:

“I would love to have a guy like Jason Kidd to be a part of this franchise, I think it makes us that much better of a team. Everyone knows how much I love Jason Kidd just throughout the summertime. It’s not hard to see how much I’d love to have him as part of the team. Honestly, when you see Jason Kidd wants to be traded, you shouldn’t have to go to the front office and tell them to get on it. It’s Jason Kidd.”

Then I was asked if being paired with Kidd could bring a championship to Cleveland. He said:
“Yeah..(pause and a smile)…It’s that easy.”

Too bad it’s not that easy. The point is that the James is making clear he wants some action here. Even if the Cavs don’t pull it off, they owe it to him to make every effort. I am sure Danny Ferry is. I honestly don’t see a deal that makes sense without a complex three-team swap but stranger things have happened. Right now, though, I’d put the chances at about 15 percent.

That's an excelent idea.

Kidd, Hughes/Pavlovic, James, Varejao/Boone, Ilgauskas

Gibson backup at the point.
