Nah, it is a cool place. The summers are nice and hot, the winters are usual quite wet and windy, but nothing too bad.
Great place to go out, with numerous spots around the town to go. There's a really good music scene (one of the best in the world, after New York, LA and London) with heaps of good live bands. Good dance/clubbing scene. Heaps of sports and top notch venues, be it for football, soccer, rubgy, cricket, basketball etc.
Heaps of cultural activities, festivals, good wine and food, and best of all it aint too expensive (not cheap, but not over the top). The beach is close by, so you can enjoy that in the summer. Drive an hour out of the city for bush and farmland, small towns and coastal villages etc. We even got snow a few hours away in winter.
All in all, it's a great city to live in.

Like most big cities, there is some wealthier areas and poorer. The South East burbs are probably the most populated part of the city. There are sections where people are loaded (e.g. Brighton) while other areas are really poor (Springvale, Nobel Park, Dandenong and so on). Where I live it is a bit of both. Wouldn't say it is middle class, but the area is probably upper working class. Lots of immigrant families (most second or third generation), students, old people, families etc. living in normal sized houses.
