ok so here's my top 10.
group that there should be no question they should be in the top 10.
1. Lebron. He does it all on the floor. the outside jumper should make him nearly unstoppable. except by the Spurs (anybody watch his opening monologue on SNL? )
2. KG. May be getting a little old, but still plays as if he's a rookie trying to win a ring. he still dominates inside. maybe we'll remember how good he is this year with more Celtics games on TV.
3. Wade. If you discount his injuries from this last year, he was unstoppable and put the Heat on his back to a ring in 2006.
4. Kobe. As much as I hate to say it, he's a decent player.

and the rest.
5. Dirk. A 7 footer that shoots that well from the inside and outside? hard to find.
6. Duncan. the man wins rings. and it ain't luck.
7. Kidd. three words. triple double machine.
8. Nash. the recent success of Phx & Dallas are mainly attributed to one man. this guy gets you open shots.
9. Amaré. young, athletic, he was a monster before the knee surgery and is coming back to form, with a better FT shooting form to go with it.
10. Yao. The most skilled big man in the league. great shooting touch. would be so much better if he wasn't a soft pussy. he makes all of us asians seem weak

why your favorite player didn't make my top 10?
Melo? that's a good one. coming off a championship run at Syracuse in 2003, he felt he deserved the hype of Lebron. He definitely hasn't lived up to his potential quite yet. Where has he taken his team? nowhere.
AI? getting old, plus his scoring ways can only take you so far before you get shut down by good defense.
Gilbert? I love this guy. Great offensive player. when he brings the D, he'll he pretty solid.
T-Mac? Great all around player, but again, no results for his teams.
Baron? too inconsistent for me. I love his game too though.
Dwight & Bosh are slowly coming up and will probably replace KG & Duncan someday but not anytime soon.

If he's a top 5 all-time player, how then is he not even a top 5 current player, considering he's just as good as he ever was?

I didn't say Duncan is "just as good [now] as he ever was ".

I didn't say you did, but he clearly is, or at least damn close. Barring last season, which he played with plantar fascitis, he's been producing pretty consistently since his rookie year.

Top 10 in the NBA Right Now (No order past 1-3):

1. Lebron-echoing what everyone else said, he pretty much singlehandedly got the cavaliers into the finals, and thats just ridiculous. I used to hate him because i thought he was overhyped, but now, i cant argue
2. Kobe-Yes i hate him, but damn this boy can play...I cant all the kobe highlights all season but at the same time i watch him and at least 1 play a game is "holy hell, how'd he do that?"
3. Steve Nash-Take him away from the Suns and see what happens.
4. Tim Duncan-Even plantar fascitis cant keep this guy from winning rings, something about him just earns championships and he's got the hardware to prove it
5. KG-echo what everyone said again: consistently amazing player, just everyone sort of forgot about him in the minnesota cold: expect a resurgence this year
6. Carlos Boozer-Would be one of the best PFs i'd ever seen if he could stay healthy...
7. D-Wade-where Lebron and Melo muscle through things, Wade jukes. One of the most fun players to watch and has a championship with an alltime veteran team already.
8. Amare-Love this guy, center with Decent range and the power/highflyer ability to not be boring to watch
9. Dirk-7 foot tall 3 point shooter, need i say more?
10. Arenas-For everytime he talks smack and gets shut down, theres a time he talks smack and succeds, this guy going from 2nd round pick to one of the best offensive guards in the league is absolutely ridiculous

1. Tim Duncan= he's the best bet if you wanna win. he might not be that talented, but he gets the job done

2. Kobe= he's the most skilled player in the league and its not even close. he has all the assets and he has the killer instinct

3. Steve Nash= he's probably the smartest player in terms of basketball knowledge. and he has the ability to step up when the team needs him

4. Wade= killer instinct and ability on the clutch are what separates him from the other guys

5. Lebron= has all the potential to be the GOAT, very talented and skilled. but he is the opposite of Wade because he lacks the killer instinct and clutch control

6. KG= he's the model of consistency. he refined the PF position. but so far he hasn't used any of his talents to actually win

7. Allen Iverson= he's is still not slowing down and can still produce 30/8/3 every night when he is allowed to. plus, he is getting wiser as he ages, which is definitely a good thing

8. Dirk= he's a great leader and his shooting ability separates him from other big men

9. Gil Arenas= he's getting better and better. he's insanely confident, and does deliver...

10. J Kidd= has fantastic court vision. rebounds well for a PG. and can score


other players who have nearly made it, but didnt:

Amare= i had to choose between him and Kidd... Kidd won
Tmac= needs to stay healthy and get out of the first round
Yao= has everything he needs to become the best center out there, but he doesn't use it
Boozer= very slow to develop and he's injury prone
Dwight and Bosh= still young and yet to prove themselves
Melo= needs to do other things than score
Brand= really only had one great season

I definitely agree that Duncan tops KG in defense but I think that Duncan became the way he is defensively because the system/coach he was since his rookie year.

I think if KG was put in Duncan's position, KG would have transformed into "the best defensive player since Russell".

Of course it's only speculative thinking of what if and could have been.

Brand= really only had one great season

He only had one winning season but in terms of statistical performance Brand has always been consistent.

Considering the fact that the rest of the Rockets are barely NBA players (with the exception of Battier) taking the team that ended up going to the WCF 7 games only proves they are top 10 players, not the opposite.

Even though I think Yao Ming is 11th or 12th.

Yeah i have a hard time seeing tmac, ming, or even amare in the top 10 best players. Tmac hasnt done much, but he is a great talent. ming is starting to become a beast. Amare would probably be half the man if nash wasnt with him.

Did you watch those games against the Pistons my friend? on the offensive side of the ball there was NOTHING but lebron. Sure defense had a little team aspect, but Lebron did everything else. Note the two little qualifying words "pretty much": yes i understand there was 4 other players on the floor, but i believe with any semi-decent 4 NBA players (which Big Z and Hughes, certainly and the other 2 are passable) Lebron would still do what he does. Just wait and see. I also wonder if you'd be as mad if i had said the same thing about kobe...
