Allan Houston '90-95%'

Looks like this is for real and he's pretty serious on a comeback... he reckons he will play 15-20 minutes a game. Anyone have any ideas what team he would help the most?

It would be funny for him to go to Dallas where he can be on a crazy second unit with Stack and Jones. Not sure if he'd make much of an impact there...

Cavs should go look for a PG rather than Houston

Perhaps he could fill a better role in New Jersey... they could us ea shooter like Houston...

The rest (ie. Phoenix, San Antonio, Miami) are those usual suspects... the teams that are going to use 'championship contenders' to try and lure older free agents...

I'm going with Dallas and New Jersey. What about you guys?

I still think he'd be a good fit in Cleveland. An upgrade at point guard wouldn't go astray but they've got Gibson developing and Houston could be lethal with a player like LeBron drawing the attention of the defense; he certainly wouldn't be shy about taking an open shot. He's not the answer to all of the Cavaliers' problems but if he's healthy and can give them 15-20 minutes a game then he could help them out.

I agree. Depending on how Larry Hughes will perform this, Houston can help a lot. Cavs really need someone who can knock down open jumpers.

i wouldnt mind seeing him off the bench in boston but i would give that about a 1% chance of happening. seeing as ainge has already turned down troy hudson and stated that he thinks the team is set(i would have taken hudson at the right price).

besides boston i think cleveland is the best spot for him if he really wants to play. phoenix, the spurs, and the mavs he would have better chances to win but he would be much less needed and probably not get to actually play that much. i assume he wants back to really play and not just try to leech off of someone for a ring.

I would take Troy Hudson over Eddie House. Adding Hudson wouldn't have hurt the Celtics either... they need all the help they can get. :D

Perhaps he would be a good fit in Cleveland, provided that he is a more consistent option than all the other 'shooters' on the roster. It would work but they need a PG so Larry Hughes isn't a makeshift one.

How do we even know Houston can still knock down open shots? I mean, he came from a knee injury, that totally screws up your jump shot and athleticism.

Fri Sep 07, 2007 5:48 pm

Well considering he is still a good shooter (which I am pretty sure he can still shoot =P) he would be good on a team with a scoring threat, like the Cavs as mentioned above. Alot of the attention would be drawn to people like LeBron who they would have to guard which could possibly leave Houston open for some clutch shots.

Fri Sep 07, 2007 6:47 pm

JosephSu, I don't think Houston would be planning to come back if he couldn't shoot. You would imagine that that will be his best asset and one of the parts of his game not affected as much from his knee problems.

We will find out what he's like after he works out for these teams. :D

Sat Sep 08, 2007 2:11 am

i sort of agree with joseph, at least i understand what he is saying. your legs are the most important part of your jump shot, the legs go the shot will go. however i believe he can still jump to shoot the shot, just not for 40 minutes a game.

Sat Sep 08, 2007 2:40 am

Kewl, I want him to go to Boston though, just recently, I'm like...addicted on watching Larry Bird videos on you tube, before, I didn't really admire him. Boston FTW :D

Houston actually doesnt jump all that high when shooting, it wont affect him as much as you may think. He'll most do spot up work though, I dont know how that step-back of his will hold up with repeated use at his age.

But shooting wise, even at this stage I would put him in the top 15 shooters in the league at the moment. He'll be a nightmare on the right team.

I think that's certainly a concern for any team that's interested in his services but if he's looking to make a comeback then I'd suggest his knee is in decent shape. Even if there are some question marks hanging over his knee, I'd suggest he still has his shooting touch.

Sat Sep 08, 2007 12:51 pm

another thing is, he will probably come cheap enough where even if he totally sucks it wont hurt the team much. kinda like grant hill in phoenix

Sat Sep 08, 2007 12:56 pm

Absolutely. If he does make it back to the NBA, whoever signs him isn't going to make him the focal point of the team or pay him as much as the Knicks were over five years. Like Penny Hardaway in Miami and Grant Hill in Phoenix, he'd be a low-priced, low-risk experiment that could pan out better than expected should he remain healthy.

Fri Sep 14, 2007 12:16 pm

allan, come back to the knicks. i mean, we did pay you 20 mil to sit on your ass. it's the least you can do for us.

Why in the world would you want that?

Fri Sep 14, 2007 12:39 pm

Q cant hit the 3's, allan can help.

What the fuck are you talking about? The celtics are one of the better teams on paper in the east.

Fri Sep 14, 2007 2:40 pm

Still, they need a veteran PG, unless you consider House to be of that caliber which I do not.

Fri Sep 14, 2007 5:51 pm

If he signs with the Nets which is looking likely, Im officially on the I hate Danny Ferry bandwagon.

Sat Sep 15, 2007 4:19 am

Can anybody tell me why would he be interested in signing with the Nets? Last time I checked, he wants to win a ring :?

because he will be close to home, NY is across the river. Kidd will make him look good too.

He's back with the Knicks. :|

So this is why they are planning to cut Nichols... Never really liked Houston, I always thought he was too one-dimensional, at least with Nichols you'd get some youth and potential.

Thu Oct 11, 2007 1:09 pm

If he really is playing at a high level as Jamal Crawford has alluded to... perhaps he can be the veteran voice/presence that the Knicks need so much. Plus if he can still shoot like he used to; could help these Knicks to challenge for a playoff spot.
