Dennis Rodman And South Dragons

Fri Aug 31, 2007 2:15 pm

South Dragons keen on having Rodman for one pre-season game.

I'm guessing some will be interested by this... he already had a stint in the BBL in Britain... Just his presence will be immense I guess. A publicity stunt at the end of the day.

Will be fun for those who attend the games though!

What's the bet John Howard doesnt let him into the country?

it's as much of a joke as Shane Heal & the South Dragons franchise....I don't think it is needed....I'd prefer to see someone better than Rodman come in if they're going to pay the big money....maybe they can help themselves find a 7 footer with some of that money....

True, but to be honest I wouldn't mind seeing it just for the spectacle; it's a shame it won't be televised. It's certainly an expensive publicity stunt but as the situation with Mark Price last year demonstrated, the Dragons seem to have an odd way of doing business.

Out of interest... how many people fit into their home stadium?

I wonder if they will make any money from this...

well theyd have to hope so payin win 80 g's

Apparently the deal's fallen through.

Wed Sep 05, 2007 2:12 pm

Yep, they decided there wasn't enough time to organise it... too bad.

They also said it was an attempt to get exposure for the sport. (Much like why Rodman played in the BBL last year)

while on the topic of nbl, another horsham export shane mcdonald is going to be playing for the singapore slingers. he isnt on the roster yet, but he gets a mention in this article:

I knew the NBL wouldnt be able to get this done.

If they wanted exposure to the sport then put it the fuck on free-to-air tv. And if they were never intending to put the Rodman game on any brand of tv, then it was just going to be a pointless exercise.

Most Australian basketball fans could name ten NBA players before they could name a single NBL player.

Unfortunately it isn 't easy as just saying 'put it on tv...' (I wish it were though...)

Firstly, the Government probably doesn't give a rats ass about the NBL. Secondly, the Pay-TV deal would at least help to finance a bit of the NBL's ventures... until basketball becomes acknowledged as a 'bigger' sport, I don't think it will be on free-to-air. It sucks...

I guess the NBL is only for the hardcore fans and not the average ones... although I know of NBL fans who know jack all about the NBA...

Absolutely. By all means give those of us with Foxtel premium coverage but more exposure on FTA would help greatly. Treating it like a serious sporting league and dropping all the "great night out with a game of basketball thrown in" nonsense would be great as well.

Didn't Rodman only score like 4 points in that game in Britain? :P

Meh, I'm a Kings fan. =P

Fri Sep 07, 2007 2:11 pm

Rodman wasn't very good in Britain... all he did was grab a few boards... he just likes the attention I spose... like Scottie Pippen :D

Sif you would go for the Kings... at least theyre bettere than the Tigers... Anstey's a pansy!

Go Brisbane (Y)

Fri Sep 07, 2007 8:08 pm

Go South East Melbourne Magic. A relic of the days when it didnt hurt to give a crap.

That came out wrong.

So did that.

That's pretty much what's preventing any kind of Rodman comeback in the NBA (his age not withstanding). Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't hate Rodman and he played an important role in the second Bulls threepeat but his basketball appearances since then have basically been spectacles, travelling sideshows and publicity stunts rather than "serious" comeback attempts.

Not at these guys' ages. He probably still has a bit of the athleticism but you would think it's caught up with him. He was never a good shooter/scorer and relied a lot on his energy and athleticism (Andrew can correct me if needed). Now that that's gone, I don't think he would ever be very effective on any pro team... all he has is his reputation if he ever wanted to play again.

Mon Sep 10, 2007 10:28 am

He was better offensively than a lot of people gave him credit for but you're right, he was never a great shooter. He relied on timing and a knack for knowing where the ball was coming off the rim as well as his athleticism but I'd say his advancing age would still be a handicap.
