Forward Ruben Patterson was charged with assaulting his wife less than a week after guard Damon Stoudamire and forward Rasheed Wallace were cited for marijuana possession. Stoudamire and Wallace both admitted smoking marijuana to the arresting officer, according to a police report.

That is bad...very stupid...
First of all...Patterson, Well it isn't really the public's problem, what he did was wrong, but who am i to judge...i don't know the full story...but that's gotta be bad on his reputation. poor patterson (and wife) ...he wont be playing next week due to personal problems..
Stoudamire and Wallace, Everybody likes to smoke a bitta grass...but these guys are NBA Players, shit, they should be keeping fit, not smoking dope.

I'm divided on issues such as these. On one hand, I think that they have done things that are foolish or wrong. Like you said, we can't judge, but assaulting anyone let alone your wife is not something that is admirable. And beyond the physical affects of the use of marijuana, there's the legal issues involved. These kinds of distractions are not needed from players who are skilled and can make valuable contributions to their team, a team that is great on paper but doesn't ever seem to reflect that in the final standings.

On the other hand, if this Ruben Patterson from down the street, Damon Stoudamire who works at Wal-Mart, and Rasheed Wallace the bank teller, would we even care about what they are doing, would we even bother talking about them? They are human like the rest of us, and are therefore prone to the same feeling and follies that we are. Patterson could have his own personal issues such as a problem with anger, and Sheed and Stoudamire have their own reasons for marijuana use. That's no excuse for breaking the law, but just because they are pro athletes doesn't mean they are superior beings who are above human traits.

We've come to expect it though, the "Portland JailBlazers" quip has been around for quite some time. Isaiah Rider and Cliff Robinson helped build that reputation back in the day.

This is ridiculous, this is really a distraction on the team where you got two guys smoking pot and another one allegedly assaulting his wife. But Portland has been experiencing this situations since J.R. days.
