Apple Talk Thread

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Building a PC is always crap. My favourite pic that Apple showed in the keynote was this one:

All-in-one is the way to go, but it seems that the PC industry thinks is better to have a big ass mess of computer on your desk. Apple products are VERY CHEAP for what you get. You already got the speakers, iLife, Mac OS X, a great screen, a webcam, a pretty good microphone, and also you save a TON of money in repairs and buying new hardware because you don't have any Windows messing up your computer hardware pieces.

Actually, the Nvidia 8800 GTX card have 758 mb. Ram.

^Genius right here.

We're not talking about VRAM here, we're talking about memory bus.

And learn how to read. I wrote bits, not megabytes and there's a really huge difference between them, pal.

What he hell is bits? Anyways, the 8800 is way better than anything you can get a mac with.

Edit: Just checked up on the 8800 series, they have 384 or 320 bit, also better than the mac card

1MB=8,388,608 bits.

Anyway, I don't think any PC actually comes with the 8800, unless you build it. And for that matter, you can put the 8800 on a Mac too.
I don't think it's really worth it unless you're a pro though since the price of the 8800 goes from $300 to $800.

You can get lots of pc's with 8800. But i thought you could only use the graphics cards you can choose when you buy a mac. But if you buy a mac, you probably dont want to play computer games anyway, so you dont need a kick ass card

It's not that you only need a kickass GPU to play videogames. There's a lot of other stuff that you can do only if you have a good GPU, for example 3D rendering/animation or massive video editing.

Yeah, bad computers suck at 3d rendering. I was on this 3d school half a year ago, it took a minute or so to render a little picture :(

Damn, I go on vacation and this thread suddenly dies!

Anyway, I was just browsing Digg and found this. It's the new 'Welcome to Leopard' video.
As said on that post, I think it's very professional. What are your thoughts?

Also found this. It seems that Apple will unveil their new line of iPods on September 5th. I just hope the prices don't go up like crazy.

To throw in new Leopard news, here's the latest screenshot of the new GUI. It's looking very simple and slick. I like.

What don't you like about it? The one thing I don't like are the curls on the arrows. That's unnecessary.

IMO the buttons are too light and glossy (they look like those on the Thunderbird Mac skin), and if that is actually the shadow of the windows, it's way too big. And yeah, the curls on the arrows are (N)

i am looking forward to seeing how much capacity the new ipod's can carry. i am hoping 160 gb so i can carry most of my library around. i wish they would elimitate all the glitz and video and shit, or at least give a toned down cheaper version with the same capacity. all i want it for is music, oh well.

how is the new imac, joe? my friend has one, i don't really like or dislike the new design, the keyboard looks nice from afar, but the keys seem a little 'toyish,' but i still prefer it to the old ones; its so thin.

From what I've read, the new video-iPods will have 80GB and 120GB hard drives, and the all-new "Fat Nano's" are likely to have 8GB and 16GB flash cards.

You have more than 120GB of music in your library? Man, that's a lot!

I have only around 40GB and everybody at school already calls me "music freak". Most of the times I listen to a very small part of it, though.

There's this guy I found an article on, that has over 200,000 tracks on his iTunes library. That's 850 GB!! He also says he's got a separate 'annex' of about 200-300 GB of stuff!

Anyway, I totally agree with you, I wish they released a cheaper non-video iPod just for music lovers. I wouldn't care if it didn't even have a color-screen.

So, the consumer credit company just called me yesterday regarding my order and they said that the info processing and the shipping would take at least a month. That means I would finally have my hands on the new iMac only in October.

Well, since Leopard is coming out in October, I decided to wait some more (and save 129 bucks).
My parents said they're willing to help me buy the Mac this time so I won't have to buy through a financial program.

I already tried the new iMac at the store, though. And I agree with you, the keyboard feels really weird, and while the percentage of typos with it is lower than with a normal keyboard, it took me some time to get used to it.

People with that much music probably just download alot of random shit they'll never listen to purely to boost their numbers. I can't imagine any human knowing 850gb worth of music lol.

The guy writes music reviews for the New York Sun so I guess he's "forced" to listen to that much music. But yeah, 200,000 songs is pretty crazy. I mean, it'd take him a minimum three years to listen to every song.
