Reggie coming back?

Thu Aug 09, 2007 4:31 am

realgm is reporting that the celtics are trying to bring reggie miller out of retirement for 15 minutes a night. thoughts on this? i dont know myself to be honest. would have been a great move 10 years ago, but he is 42 now. still i guess 15 minutes a night could prove usefull, mainly come playoff time. that is off course assuming he can still shoot, which i am sure he can.

Thu Aug 09, 2007 4:35 am

Umm no...42 is maybe fine for being a DH in Baseball or a K/P in Football, but Reggie will look quite bad if he returns.

Thu Aug 09, 2007 4:37 am

Man, I don't know either. He's in a new career now, with movie-producin' and TNT-sidekickin'. But hey, if he can shoot, he can just stand at the three and swish some shots every night.

I remember when he came back before and played for Dallas.

Oh wait, that was just the other time ESPN made up a story about Reggie coming back with no quotes out of his mouth in the article.

Thu Aug 09, 2007 4:49 am

yea i was thinkin te same thing^

Thu Aug 09, 2007 5:39 am

LOL, Reggie said he ain't coming back, so he ain't coming back!!! Celtics probably said something like "We wuld love Reggie To Play For Us" And ESPN went out and made their own story!!

i just cant believe that the celts cant find other players who are younger and can help. in the end i dont see reggie coming back, i mean being 42 and playing a position where he would be required to run alot and chase younger guys would be tough. i think the only reason he is even entertaining the idea is cause he wants a ring. i believe there are other teams more suited to win a ring right now but i doubt any of them are trying to bring in a 42 year old guard to help them lol.

Thu Aug 09, 2007 7:18 am

LOL. . Boston doesn't know what to do now!!! They hve 3 of the best players in the league and they stuck with just that!!! Ainge should have planned his offseason better!!!

Thu Aug 09, 2007 8:21 am

As much as I love Reggie, I don't think the Celtics would benefit much with a 42 year old playing 15 minutes a game.

Thu Aug 09, 2007 8:37 am

why not? reggie's been one of my favorite player all time... it will be good to see him again on the court. if he thinks he's fit enough, any team would in open arms

Thu Aug 09, 2007 9:17 am

the problem i have with it is, reggie is the opposite of what the celtics needs now. they got scoring, they need defense now, and miller at 42 wont do shit for us on defense. still for league min i would take him

Thu Aug 09, 2007 9:54 am

sauru ur right
he won't be able to do much but if he's willing to come back, it'll mean in terms of ticket sales not for his productivity
anyhow i miss his flopping days when he had quick feet on D, he can make varejao look bad as a flopper
not to mention his clutch 3 pointers...
hardly doubt he can play like that now at 42
but i think he can find a way to fit into the team like steve kerr did with spurs near end of his career... more like a wish...

Thu Aug 09, 2007 9:56 am

For me,I think he can still contribute even at that age.But in limited minutes.I just dont know if he's still a clutch shooter.

Thu Aug 09, 2007 10:03 am

I wouldn't come back, He'll damage his legacy. One drive from lebron is all it would take...

Thu Aug 09, 2007 10:43 am

i never agreed when people said "dont come back it will ruin the legacy" like when jordan joined the wiz. sure in the eyes of people who watch bball it may look like he ruined it, all his averages will drop, he wont be himself. on the other hand jordan with the wiz was making league min and was still better than most the players in the nba. just cause he was not the best in the league does not mean he ruined anything, not to me anyway. then there is the point of, this is thier life, if they wanna play let them. sometimes its hard to walk away from something you love.

being said i dont think reggie will come back, it seems more like the celts trying to talk him into it. like Zanshadow said, the biggest perk would be in sales. i am sure even though he would be used in a limited role they would sell a miller jersey.

still if he did come back, and the celts did win a ring, that would be huge for reggie, meaning he wont have to go down in history with the likes of barkley, wilkens, ewing,stockton/malone, and so on.

Thu Aug 09, 2007 10:48 am

If he was interested in coming back then I'm sure he could be effective for 15 minutes per night. As Indy said it seems to be nothing more than speculation and what-if scenarios though, much like the Dallas rumours last season.

Thu Aug 09, 2007 1:18 pm

Obviously I really, really don't see it hapening. But who knows, maybe he'll form the highest starting five combined age total ever to win a championship, especially if they sign Chris Webber or bring in Dikembe Mutumbo. Now I really hope they trade for Cliff Robinson and sign Gary Payton.

Thu Aug 09, 2007 11:44 pm

first team ever where all the players are over 30 to win a ring? lol

lol great stuff, a team full of "almosts".

Fri Aug 10, 2007 6:33 am

They should sign Big Dog Glenn Robinson, Nick Van Exel, and Isaiah Rider. They could use some big men too, so maybe add Ewing, Olajuwon, or Greg Ostertag.
