Brand out

looks like elton brand is gonna miss most of it not the entire season. seems he ruptured his left Achilles tendon is a practice.

not good news for clips fans, not good at all. infact it bothers me too, i like brand. i have enjoyed watching him play since he was drafted by the bulls. seems like playing in the other LA is becoming a dangerous thing

Terrible news for the Clippers who are already down a key player due to a serious injury. Hopefully Brand will be able to bounce back next year.

Though I realize next year will be painful for Clips fans, and I have nothing but sympathy for Elton Brand (here's to a speedy recovery), this injury could actually help the Clips in the long run. They were basically in the position to challenge (maybe) for one of the final playoff spots in the west, winning approx. 38-42 games at best, and again drafting toward the end of the lottery, but with Brand's injury, they are all but guaranteed to be one of the worst teams in the league and have a high draft pick next year, which could translate into Roy Hibbert or OJ Mayo, etc. So, assuming Brand can regain his form, adding a top 5 draft pick to relatively young core that includes Brand, Maggette, Livingston, Thornton, and Kaman, could actually make the Clips viable Western Conference contenders 3 to 5 years from now when the Spurs, Suns, and Mavs all begin to fall off. Had Brand not gotten injured, the best the Clips could do for the next 5 years or so is a first round exit.

I mean, just look at what happened to San Antonio the year Robinson went down: they got Tim Duncan. Now, I doubt there's a Tim Duncan quality player in next year's draft, but there should be some impact players who could really help LA down the line.

Fuckity fuck fuck.

To think, that there were several players that the Clips could have tried to get. Steve Francis, Ray Allen, KG, AI last year, JO, Artest, and now there isn't much of a chance of getting anybody good enough to fill a vacancy.

All I can hope for is that Mobley follows through on what he said this offseason about being more aggressive physically and vocally, and that Kaman has some kind of break out season, and that Maggette gets more opportunities offensively, for better or worse in his case. Maybe Tim Thomas will come up at the 4 spot.

So the best case scenario is that both Livingston and Brand are back in the lineup in February.

Like I said in the other thread, I like the Clippers (seventh favorite team...) but after seeing The MC5's point, it is sort of relieving. It wasn't like the Clippers were going anywhere anyway. Better winning 20 games and getting Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, Nichola Batum or OJ Mayo; than a first-round sweep or another 14th pick.

Kaman - T. Thomas - Maggette - Mobley - Cassell... Ouch.

It's not that bad...wait, a old fella in Cassell and Tim Thomas, a contract-year phenomenon in the mould of Erick Dampier.

oh man I thought it was a tear which would've allowed him to come back early in the season... didn't realize the severity of it.

sad part is, he wasn't playing pickup or anything, he was doing his normal workout at The Spectrum.

omg, clippers gonna be even worse than last season
livingston might be going thru career ending injury while their best player is gone for a long time
hopely they both can come back and perform at high lvl
otherwise livingston's talent is wasted, we don't get to see prime living

Wait you have 7 or more favorite teams? it sounds like my little brother who is constantly changing his favorite baseball team, but he does have only one favorite basketball team (the lakers/kobe bryants). lol sorry for going off-topic but that was really weird because I've never seen anyone say "seventh favorite team."

Never good to hear about an injury, let alone to a teams best player. Brands plays a good brand of basketball hopefully that doesnt change when he gets back.

I sitll doubt he's gonna be 100%when he gets back in February, there goes Clippers' hopes for the postseason. They don't have much chance of getting in with Brand, but without its a lottery team for sure.

This sucks for Clipper fans, but I'm hoping Paxson could force a trade to bring Elton back to Chicago. 8-)

With him injured and the ability to opt out after this season, they won't wanna lose him for nothing. Tyrus, Andres, picks, whatever. As long as none of Kirk, Ben or Luol go, I'm all for it.

In other Clippers news, Brevin Knight has signed with LAC. LINK

I dont know if Brevin Knight's a big enough name to make it a thread on his own, but at the same time I was thinking he was one of the major reserve players teams would be looking for. In the end I decided to put this news along in this thread, a thread related to the Clippers.

Brevin Knight is a good pickup IMO, since Livingston got injured, they have no one good to back up Cassell. Jason Hart can play the point, but Knight is much better.

And bout the Clips, sad sad news. Losing your best player for almost a season is heartbreaking. Also, I think he will sit out the whole season, much like Amare did, so as to rest his injury.

Not a bad move, but they better try to get one or two big men as well, I doubt Tim Thomas will be as efficient as EB. :?

Jason Hart is no longer in Clippers, he was signed by Utah.

In an NBA where the league is usually dominated by the same teams; being loyal to one will most likely get you nowhere. I just have a priority list; which I use to determine who to root for. My top 3 has still been solid (Portland, Toronto, Seattle) for years; but seeing as none of those teams really have a legitimate title chance any time soon (Even Toronto...), I have to move down the list to teams like Dallas, Phoenix, Detroit and so forth...

Anyway, who will be worse this year? Seattle, Minnesota or LA?

now i gotta agree its weird to have 7 favorite teams, or more, but at the same time i understand your point, well maybe. you got a list of teams who you root for and you always root for the lowest number. question i have for you is, who is your fav team and has that ever changed.

to answer your question, i think seattle will be the worst of the 3.

Since I started watching basketball in the 2000 Playoffs; I have been above all a Blazers fan. The fact that I was born in Oregon, and always lived within a couple hours of the city was a big factor, but also because I loved that 99-00 team.

Although they haven't been past the first round since then, I have always wanted them to succeed above all. I really wish they would have pulled off that comeback from 3-0 against Dallas in 2003. Now that their team looks great, I am really happy to be a Blazer fan. Though they haven't had much recent success, and haven't even been considered contenders, they have always been my favorite, and that has never changed.

I adopted the Raptors in 2001 with Vince Carter (who I hate now), but I've always rooted for the team outside of him, especially when Chris Bosh emerged. They have always been in my top 3.

Finally, the Sonics have always been up there because I live in the city.

I'm interested in him as well. I will be following the Clippers just to see how he's doing. Sure, Brand being out is terrible, but there is a positive in that a rookie could show that he is something special.
