Shannon Brown has been solid so far too, 50% from the field, 22 PPG, 2.5 APG, 1.0 RPG, 3.5 TO

Shannon Brown might end up being one of the top in all of the summer league (but nobody recognizes that ;))

Also, Yi against the cavs summer league sucked, he missed a lot of shots, and he got a lot of ticky calls sending him to the FT line. The only good thing he did was make the game winner.

Oden doesn't suck, at that position he needs some time to develop, there's all sorts of people who say crap like "Oden will be a bust", hell, even "LeBron will be a bust"

Just for media though, when LBJ first started his career they said his jumpshot sucked (which it did), and he wasn't worth the 1st pick. But he developed that jumpshot a bit, and really improved his game fast, now he's one of the best in the NBA, maybe in the Top 3.

Give oden and durant some time to develop, they will be solid ball players if they work hard.

Also, just thought I'd post my teams perspective, the cavs won't keep any of their summer league players except obviously D gib, shannon, and dwayne jones already on the roster.

I havent followed other teams really in the summer league, except yi on team china.

Did someone say Shannon Brown?

I know this isnt the video thread, but damn, nice dunk during a summer league game. He has been pretty solid.

Banks Sets Scoring Record in Loss to Cavaliers
Posted Jul 10 2007 1:19AM

Cleveland 93, Phoenix 89
Las Vegas, July 9 --Marcus Banks returned to the gym where he once honed his skills as a collegiate athlete. The former UNLV guard set a new summer league record with 42 points, but it wasn’t enough. Banks and the Suns were edged 93-89 by the Cavaliers in the nightcap at Thomas and Mack Center.
Banks' record-setting performance took flight in the final period, where Banks netted 23 points and nearly won the game for Phoenix. During several stretches of the final period Banks became a one man show.
“I just wanted to come out and have fun,” Banks said of his return. “I had a lot of family and friends here and I was glad I was able to put on a show.” Banks shot 68% from the field (13-19 FG), 80% from long range (4-5 3FG) and 86% from the charity stripe (12-14 FT).
“I want to prove to everyone that I can still play,” Banks said. “It’s been a rough road but I just keep on working hard. That’s all I can do.”
Forward Darius Rice led a balanced Cleveland attack which saw four Cavaliers score 15 or more points. Rice had 21 points, Dwayne Jones 18, PJ Tucker 16 and Shannon Brown added 15.
It was the Cavaliers improved to 2-1 with the win. Phoenix dropped to 0-1 in the 2007 NBA Summer League.

I hope to GOD he carries this confidence over to the regular season. Maybe this will give the coaches some confidence in him, as well. The problem with Banks in the Suns' system is that he's horrible at being a point guard. But man, put the ball in his hands when the offense is stagnant and he can flat out score.

If anything, this should boost his trade value... :)

Greg Oden is out for the Summer League because of tonsils?

I don't think i've heard of that reason for missing extended time before.

Whoa..whoa...Yi sucked because he missed a lot of shots? Oden doesn't suck because he needs more time to develop? I can't help but notice that you're a bit biased towards a certain race here. Bringing up LBJ's jumpshot to reinforce Durant and Oden, when Yi is in practically the same situation, further propels that theory. Don't get me wrong here, it just seemed a bit too much when you say Yi sucked, when, in reality, he, just like other rookies in the NBA, needs time to develop.

Hope I didn't get the wrong idea here.

Wow, you guys put too much stock in the Summer League.

Kareem Rush just looked like Larry Bird against the Bulls, but I'm not expecting a whole lot out of him.

Shawne Williams was something like 3-11 and commited 8 fouls, but I'm still expecting a big step forward from him this season.

i agree with both reaver and indy, how is it that oden just needs time but yi dont? imo yi needs more time as his transition is FAR harder to handle than odens.

and like i said, indy is right, you guys put way to much stock in summer league.

Yi is actually a very interesting case, because he could be anywhere from 19 to 25. If he is actually only 19 years old, then his ceiling is extremely high. However, even Yi doesn't know how old he really is.

Rush may become a great player. He played in Lithuania since January and was a true leader of my local team, great clutch player (scored a lot of crucial three's) and led his team to the final of ULEB Cup. He was even an MVP of Baltic Basketball League. However, he got an injury in a mid of March and wasn't that good anymore.
Still he's a phenomenal 3 point shooter, but maybe not universal and stable enough.

I've watched Kareem play since he was in high school, so I know all about his game. He's simply too streaky to be a consistent NBA threat.

Quote by walt frazier about Durant:
"Durant has been silenced by Balkman."

"Also, you see Durant is one dimensional. He's not scoring you don't know he's on the floor. "

So, how can a NBA team draft a player they can't know his age, and (allegedly) doesn't want to play for them, so high in such a deep draft?

If it's all "business", then why wasn't he drafted higher?

There was debate about Dikembe Mutombo's age for the longest time as well. Just because he may or may not be a few years older doesn't take away from the face that he was a great player, and worth every penny.

There is footage of Yi playing basketball, everyone knows what he can do, he has played in international compitetion against NBA players, why not draft him? Plus, it wasn't that Yi didn't want to go to Milwaukee, it is that his "handlers" wanted him in a bigger stage city. The only thing Yi ever said was that he had been spending a lot of time on the West Coast, and would like to be out there, but that's far from a comment that should keep a team from drafting someone.

I was watching the Memphis-China summer league game and I would like to say that I want to slap Rudy Gay in the face for taunting. HAHA Come on, its summer league!. You think you're all that, go try and show up the stars in the NBA. Geez

I so want to see him try and do that to Kobe, LBJ, Wade.

Marco's the man!! haha.. i fink he'll be a productive double digit scorer! great shooter..

Durant.. i am seriously disappointed.. he hasn't rebounded more than twice in a single game, he hasn't gotten his first assist... i don't see him blocking shots... nor score that many points...

Wait.... this was the guy who scored like in the 25's... avg 10+ boards... and blocks and steals da ball consistently in college?
I believe Melo did pretty well in his first summer league...

I thought Durant would be shooting bad but would still be grabbin 6-7 boards a game and have a block and a steal per game

Oden is fine.. you see sum of his strong moves.. he'll take 2-3 years to have all-star stats...

I'm watching the Wizards/Pistons on NBA TV, and call me crazy, but...

WOW! I've only been watching the 4th quarter, but it has been a highlight reel with these Pistons youngsters. Rodney Stuckey is an INCREDIBLE talent. He's shown he can take the ball to the hoop at will, and he's also good at dishing the ball. He was leading the break and dropped it off perfectly to Maxiell for a ridiculous dunk. He's going to be better than Chauncey Billups very soon, and at a much younger age.

Speaking of Maxiell, he has a really nice outside game that I wasn't aware of. He hit a jumper from the top of the key off a screen and he's been hitting all net on his free throws. And we all know about his athleticism...absolutely incredible.

The Pistons have great young talent in those two as well as Afflalo, who's quietly got a game high 21 points.
