If anything, Laker fan boys underate the defense of Kwame to make Kobe better than he really is. Kwame doesn't have to steal the ball or block guys to be a good defender. It's just that he has one of the strongest bodies in the league, yet he also has one of the quickest feet in the NBA for a big.

According to the other guy, opponents PER tells how good a defender is. Iguodala holds his opponents to a PER of 17.1 while Sasha holds his opponents to a PER of 15.9. Obviously in reality though, Sasha is one of the worse defenders in the league whil Iguodala is one of the best defenders in the league.

And no, since Butler is an allstar, plays both ends of the court very well, and Kwame is a pussy on offense.

Let's get back to subject since we're getting off topic.

imo i think that kobe will only move if he doesn't get enough to work with, he knows the team is young, i think all he needs are maybe 1 or 2 more veterans and he will be good. Maybe not for a championship but he will be better of with someone who has experience in the NBA like he does. Just my 2 cents

say whatever you want about kwame, i see the man get torn apart alot, no way he is the best inside defender in the nba. i wont sit here and say he sucks, not gonna do that, but i will argue til i am dead about him being tops in the nba

Using opponent's PER as a measurestick as to how a player plays defense is so dumb and useless, it should not be used at all. It's extremely misleading, as it does not take into account pick and rolls, perimeter defense, break down of the team defense, and the type of defense the team uses.

Actually, the problem with using counterpart PER is that it includes rebounds, steals, assists, etc. Things that a defender has no to little effect on.

If Kwame was the best post defender in the league, I think it would show up in the data. And in all of the defensive measures he's rarely even average. And he was even worse in 05/06.

If Kwame is the best defender in the league, then Pau Gasol is the best in the world...
Gasol: 11.1 stop%, 8.9 forced miss%, 52.3 man stop%, 2.9 forced turnover%, 14 end possession%, 8.0 stops per game
Kwame: 10.7 stop%, 6.7 forced miss%, 51.4 man stop%, 3.3 forced turnover%, 13 end possession%, 5.9 stops per game

Slightly off topic but PER is indeed only 1 stat and you have to use it within context.

Iguodala's opponent PER went up quite a bit this year because he's had to shoulder the load of running that offense in terms of both shooting & assists, and his defense suffered. In the 05-06 season his opponent SG PER was lower, 15.8 while his was 17.1.

You can see Iguodala is playing less defense but he's contributing much more on his end, his PER is 20.9 while opponents are 17.1...it's still positive.

Iguodala & Sasha's PER are not comparable because Iguodala operates against starters, Sasha operates against scrubs. Put Iguodala against guys like Dahntay Jones and his stats will skyrocket as well.

If Kwame is the best defender in the league, then Pau Gasol is the best in the world...

I actually think Gasol's defense problems are way overblown, Memphis was instructed to tank this year and Gasol has to comply to make it happen. 2 years ago, Memphis had one of the better defenses in the league anchored around Gasol. I think he's a steal waiting to happen, considering how hard it is to get even "just OK" Centers.

I'm done with Bryant.

Keep him around, let him sit on the bench if he wants to. What does Bryant want to do? Win. Take that away from him and you hurt him more.

Everyone knows Milwaukee is horrible. That's like if Andrew says M.J. is better then Wilt, and someone says "well Wilts better then Luc Longley!!!"

The mere fact the Lakers won't trade Odom and Bynum for Jermaine O'Neal highlights how stupid this team has become.

don't u just love this comment?
Lakers' center Kwame Brown seemed a bit confused. "There's an Eastern Conference?"

and kobe's comment...
A perpetual loser like the Hawks, the Bobcats or say… the Knicks would work perfect. Real losers who are going to drop the ball no matter what Conference they play in, no pun intended of course
