I honestly don't see this happening. Seriously, since when does Jim Gray have any credibility? I feel like a fool for buying into it.

I think there's a high probability that someone in the Wolves organization may have leaked false information to Gray on purpose, knowing the news that the deal is "extremely close" would put pressure on teams like Chicago or (especially) Phoenix to put more on the table to get KG. Maybe they're hoping that the prospect of KG playing for Phoenix's biggest division rival is enough for Suns management to give in and send Amare to Minnesota.

I'd rather see KG in LA than Amare in Minnesota.

if the celtics do that trade i will be so pissed. i dont think i will be able to bring myself to watch another celtics game all year, maybe for several years. if the celtics trade the 5th and jefferson for just oneal they are throwing thier team away for atleast another 5 seasons, probably more. everyteam in that trade makes out imo except the celtics who clearly are getting fucked

Maybe Ainge's smartest move in his tenure as Celtic's GM:

Celtics Pull Out Of Four-Way KG Deal
25th June, 2007 - 7:21 pm
Arizona Republic -
The owners of the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves have begun talks for a trade that would involve sending Kevin Garnett to the Lakers, NBA sources said Monday.

The talks turned into discussions about a four-way deal among the Lakers, Timberwolves, Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics , in which the Lakers would have gotten Garnett. However, the deal broke down, reportedly because the Celtics did not like what they would have gotten, ending the four-way negotiations.

The Lakers are now back to direct two-team talks with the Timberwolves. However, sources say, Minnesota General Manager Kevin McHale wants young players and high draft choices and isn't keen on the Lakers' offer of Andrew Bynum, who is young (19), and Lamar Odom (27), who isn't. [READ]

The deal still could be done, it seems to work for everyone but Minny. Yeah they want Al and 5 for KG, but Boston doesnt want to give that up for Oneal. If Minny would accept someone else instead of Al i think it still has a shot to go down.

Latest news, courtesy of ESPN's resident assclown Jim Gray:

Jim Gray reported Tuesday night that a new trade is brewing which would make Kevin Garnett a member of the Phoenix Suns .

The Suns, Timberwolves and Celtics are discussing a trade that would see the Suns get Garnett, the Celtics land Shawn Marion, and the Wolves acquire Boston's fifth pick as well as a number of unnamed players.

Earlier in the day, Ric Bucher reported that the Lakers' talks with the Wolves about Garnett had fallen apart.

The current blockbuster depends on whether Marion would agree to a contract extension with the Celtics. Marion can opt out of his contract after next season. According to Gray, the Suns have already spoken to Marion about the potential trade. [READ]

seems there is also a potential deal without boston, but atlanta instead. if the atlanta deal goes down the wolves would have 3 picks in the top 11 in this years draft getting both of atlanta's while atlanta gets amare and KG goes to phoenix. i like this deal alot for all teams inviolved actually. would be best for the suns to try and keep amare if they could as putting amare and kg together would be great but i doubt they could do it minus him.

as far as that boston deal, i dont want marion in boston i want the damn 5th pick.

The latest deal, from Ric Bucher, is KG goes to Phoenix, Amare goes to the Hawks, and the 3 and 11 pick go to Minny. This is an interesting deal, and sounds like it has a good chance of going down since Bucher said the Hawks were commited to a deal with the sonics to send the 11th pick to seattle for Ridnour, but have now backed out of that deal with seattle.

I'm going to cry if this deal goes down. According to Yahoo Sports, it's closer than ever to going down:

The only way I'd approve of this trade if I were Phoenix is if we get the #7 pick along with KG. No fucking way you trade a 24 year old all-NBA first teamer and get a 31 year old in return and call it a day.

i dony think phoenix can win with the team they got now, if getting garnett brings them to a championship, even if only 1, its worth it imo. i think its good for all involved actually, specially the wolves. they are stuck in no mans land now but landing 3 picks in the top 11 in a deep draft, than can really change a team around.

Not to mention they still have Foye that could become a good player. Craig Smith looked good near the end of the season for minny, and they could always trade Ricky Davis for a draft pick or younger player. Get a young group together and build on that. They would also be getting Zaza from Atlanta, who is a decent player aswell. This trade is so good for Minny.

People were high on the kid but they all thought he was too young and too thin. The funny thing is before the draft McHale and Flip Saunders were telling everyone in front of the team to pick Garnett because they wanted Rasheed or Stackhouse. After they had a workout with Garnett they were amazed by him they hoped their strategy didn't work.

yes i know this story- i am a Garnett fan myself if you didn't know. i even watched his Farragut team play in person in a preseason tourney when he was a senior.

i remember watching a younger looking Mchale interview gushing over Garnett's and saying "are we really going to pick this high school kid?" thanks for the refresher anyway

Rumors report the deal is dead, for financial reasons.

In the meantime, Belkin holds some authority over the team. He can veto any trade or free agent signing that takes the team above the NBA salary cap. Several sources suggested that it was Belkin who vetoed the trade.
-ESPN.com

This proposal had the Suns getting Garnett for sending Stoudemire to Atlanta and the Hawks delivering Marvin Williams, James Jones, Kurt Thomas and multiple draft picks to the Timberwolves. Atlanta also would have picked up another player. But questions arose on making the finances work. The Atlanta ownership imbroglio has created restrictions in assuming long-term debt.
- Chicago Tribune

And personally, i'm still skeptical if the Amare trade rumors are true at all, for the exact reasons you stated.

"We've never spoken with Atlanta about Amaré," Suns General Manager Steve Kerr said Wednesday night, when he also called Stoudemire to assure him all rumors were bogus. "We have no idea why anybody would speculate on that."

lol the rumors are bogus. the only thing that fucked it up was Amare's trade kicker that Atlanta would've paid for. they didn't wanna do that and one of their douchebag owners vetoed it (probably that Belkin guy)

they should just go ahead and remove the hawks from the nba. its too bad cause along time ago they were fun to watch. now they are nothing more than the perfect example of how to not run a nba franchise.
