shaq uses apple!

(tyler durden also said to "stop being perfect!" So if one's idea of imperfection is the pursuit of perfection, than buying an apple is actually exactly what tyler wants you to do, space monkey!)

I dont understand the fascination of Apples.

And nothing is worse than an Apple lover/Windows hater. Actually the only thing worse is when someone argues/"boasts" about Apple's "superiorness" to Windows when clearly, my care factor is ZERO.

I DONT CARE OKAY.

You're spot on on the description of Joe, you just forgot his life is too tough because Italy sucks, that's the reason that Apples > anyone who uses Windows. Duh.

I don't hate Apple, I really don't. Maybe I've come across like that because I don't like Joe, but that's got nothing to do with Apple. Only Joe.

What exactly did I do to you for you to hate me? You hate me because I believe Apple is better than Microsoft? It's just my opinion, can't I express my opinion on something? You hate me because I have a different opinion than yours? Weren't you a live and let live person?

What I do dislike is how society has "accepted" Apple. How Apple advertises itself

The society accepted Apple? Believe me, Cyanide, Magius, Ty-Land and one of my teammates are the only people I know that like Apple products (obviously except for iPods but we aren't really talking about iPods here)

They're more of a fashion statement opposed to what they really should be, ease of use and functionality

Apple has to sell its products to be successful and not go bankrupt, right?
People that actually understand Apple's products' qualities, buy them for their qualities, ignorant people that don't understand Apple's products' qualities buy Apple's products because they're gorgeous. It's business.
The fact that Apple's products "are more of a fashion statement opposed to what they really should be" isn't Apple's fault, it's the fact that there's much more ignorant people (than people that understand Apple's products' qualities) in the world.

I'm probably wording this wrong, but my gripe is more about the people that gobble up anything Apple farts out.

This is actually what happens with Microsoft's products. People got hyped with Microsoft because they "invented the personal computer", which is totally untrue.
Reality is Microsoft hasn't sold a good product since Windows 95, which is also one of their few products that is actually theirs (Microsoft has a fame for stealing other company's products, including Apple.)

I know hundreds of people that say Apple is shit even if they never tried one of their products.
Most people I know say Macs are shit just because "Macs don't have the Windows taskbar and that 'beautiful XP blue theme!!!!!"

The iPhone could suck monkey nuts and it'll still sell. That's just how gullible people are.

Once again, you're talking about the wrong company here, dude: Microsoft has sold more than twice than what Apple sold and their products aren't exactly quality, except for Office IMO.
Most of Apple's products are quality, still Apple sold (and still sells) a lot less than Microsoft... I think there's something wrong in your point, Jackie.

You're spot on on the description of Joe, you just forgot his life is too tough because Italy sucks, that's the reason that Apples > anyone who uses Windows. Duh.

Since you don't know me, I'd appreciate if you don't talk about my life.

Anybody got any cool apps running that are essential or worth checking out?

Here's a list of apps that I tried on my mate's Mac:

-Camino: Excellent browser, I dare to say better than Firefox, if you don't like Safari.

-Quicksilver: IMO the best app launcher.

-Overflow: Nice app launcher if you don't like Quicksilver.

-AbiWord: Excellent word processor.

-iBackup: restores system and applications preferences

-StuffIt Expander: Decompresses pretty much from every file type, pretty much like WinRAR for Windows

-ComicLife: Great if you read digital comics or want to create your own comic book.

And obviously every Cocoa app is great, I personally love GarageBand.

I think you're definitely talking about the people who buy iPods for a fashion statement. I'm a designer, 99% of graphic designers use Macs, and now that I'm using a Mac, my productivity has gone up. It seriously makes everything easier to use, not to mention that my color and type (fonts) are much more accurate and compatible with my printers, which is crucial for any level of print work. Ignoring the Apple ads and the whole PC and Mac debate, objectively looking at the functional and performance qualities of a Mac, it's no doubt, superb.

Joe' wrote:Camino: Excellent browser, I dare to say better than Firefox, if you don't like Safari.

I'm trying out the new Safari 3, which was released today, and so far, so good. I have Camino as well, but I really haven't given it a shot since Safari works great for me.

I gotta try Quicksilver. I've been reading about it for ages, but I can never understand it. I guess I gotta try it to understand it :)

Anyway, the WWDC has come and passed, and though there's supposedly 300 new features for Leopard, the few ones that stand out:

- Stacks: other than the transparency, which I don't really care about, the Stacks option is awesome for saving dock space.
- New Finder: I didn't really expect a whole lot, but that new album switching thingy is nifty. Always nice to see a way to improve accessibility to files and folders.
- QuickLook: Probably my favorite feature. Without launching an app, I can preview PDFs, movies, or photos by pressing the spacebar. That'll definitely boost productivity.

Other than Spaces and Time Machine, having 64-bit support is gonna really boost performance. I guess there will be more info once people start distributing the Leopard beta.

Safari 3's also for Windows. I'm curious to see if anybody's going to try it out for Windows. It's supposedly faster than any browser for both platforms.

Well, I just finished watching the keynote and immediately downloaded Safari. I must say it's blazing fast, even on my PC, which is extremely slow, but it's still a beta and some things still don't work: Clicking on almost every menubar action will result in Safari's crash and some hyperlinks won't be displayed for some reason (most of the hyperlinks in this forum for example.)
The graphics (fonts, graphic interfaces, animations) are all exactly like they're in Mac OS X, and it slows it all down a tad if your system's outdated like mine.

I must say I loved every bit of the keynote and every feature of Leopard they showed; I particularly liked QuickLook, the new Finder (CoverFlow and the ability to search other Macs,) Stacks (it can even work as an app launcher, so no need for Quicksilver anymore,) Time Machine and of course the fact that it's 64-bit from top to bottom.

The new feature in iChat (the one that you can show videos, presentations, PDF's, etc. through the video-chat window. I don't remember how it's called) is also really useful and will definitely speed things up.

The new desktop's awesome, transparency and the new dock are just beautiful, but I didn't really like the new wallpaper, I must say I liked the blue aqua wallpaper better.

I really have no doubts, Leopard will be the best OS. I just hope it'll be preinstalled on Macs by Christmas so I won't have to wait much to get my hands on it.

Yeah, there's huge problems with the Windows version including security flaws. I'm back to Safari 2.0 reluctantly just to be safe :( I really love the speed, but I'm gonna wait till it's at least second beta.

safari looks pretty fucked up right now, thank god i didn't dl it.

curious, would you guys reccomend any alternatives to appzapper? i'd prefer not to buy it if theres something just as good free. appzapper basically makes sure that when you delete something, everything is wiped. i'd prefer not to use spotlight and search down every little thing.

also i'm checking out the browsers, camino seems like the best right now, any other input? as for widgets all i dled was istat pro. hmmm, how is bootcamp to install?

btw, quicksilver is pretty awesome.

Yeah, Safari's pretty fucked up at the moment (At least the Windows version of it; Most of the text is missing in almost every website.)

AppDelete looks like a great alternative to AppZapper, it's recommended by Apple and it's free.

The best browser for OS X, for the little time I used it, is IMO Safari. The best alternatives are Camino and obviously Firefox.
I tried Shiira and iCab and they're good browsers too but not as good as Safari or Camino.
Other popular browserrs available for OS X are IE and Netscape but I don't think it's worth even talking about them.

BootCamp is currently a beta and you can download it here. Surprisingly, it's only 274MB, and I guess it's worth a try, but it'll likely be a little buggy.
The first stable of BootCamp is coming out in October preinstalled in Leopard.

Quicksilver, I agree with you, is awesome, but I really think it won't be needed anymore once Leopard comes out since Stacks does exactly the same, from the Dock.

Yeah, Firefox and Camino are good alternatives. Camino is still fairly new, but I think they ironed out the bugs enough to make it a very good browser. I'm still using Safari, though, as I love the speed and usability :P

I was thinking of trying out BootCamp, but I'm not interested in sharing my computer with Windows just yet ;)

i recently installed bootcamp with zero problems throughout the installation; it is pretty straightforwards as long as you follow the directions. The only problem I am having is I can't connect to my wireless network using xp, it seems this might be a problem with 2wire routers, have any of you ever heard of this?

other than that everything is going very smoothly.

nevermind, i have fixed it. although it would be helpful if someone can tell me what i actually did, and subsequent effects doing it may done....

the first thing i did was go to my routers homepage and turned off all security. after doing this my mbp bootcamp xp could connect to the network. then i went back to my router and changed the channel to 7, and applied a WPA password instead of a WEP (which it was originally). after this it seems to work.

perhaps there is an internet wiz on nbaliveforums.com who can soothe my worries. i hope i didnt fuck anything up somewhere else. i came to this solution absorbing many many threads and combining them.

edit: anyone recommend some useful widgets?

The Wikipedia widget seems to be very useful, same for the Traffic.com widget and the AppUpdate widget.
Other widgets I find useful are Currency Coverter widget, the This Day in History widget, the TV Forecast widget, and the Countdown widget.

Cloudy, did you find any bugs in Safari? Like content missing, or random crashes, etc?
I'm just wondering if it's my PC or Safari.

I'm glad it works for you cloudy. but for anyone else thinking of upgrading to the new safari, i'd say wait for awhile. there have been plenty of bugs reported, and people seem to have a very difficult time trying to revert back to the old safari when these bugs are encountered. I would wait for a more stable version.

so far the widgets that are useful to me are istat pro, wikipedia to a certain extent, dictionary/thesaraus, calculator, currency, etc. converter, and possibly peerguardian (though i prefer it not auto loading). i'll check out appupdate soon.

also, my macbook pro is rocking in every possible way. I could not be happier.

does anyone know of a program that allows itunes to recognize ipod music as part of its library? its not a big deal, but I'd like this feature so i could use my remote with the laptop.

I think the only way to do it is by actually ripping your iPod library to your hard drive and then transfer it all to your iTunes library.
Look on the Downloads section of Apple.com, there should be some iPod ripping apps.

For widgets that I like and use other than the weather, calendar, stickies, iTunes and iCal:

Dictionary/Thesaurus
Amazon
Wikipedia
RottenTomatoes
Tomatometer
iStat Pro
Unit Converter
BBC News RSS
ESPN NBA News... though it could be better.

With Safari 3.0 still a beta and 2.0 not liking RealGM for some reason, I've switched to Camino. It's fast, lightweight, and I love browsing with it. I'm not too fond of how the bookmarks are set up for Camino and it's too bad I can't drag tabs, but other than that, it's great.

tried using camino, but eventually reverted back to firefox because of the plugins. anyway so far things are swell save one kernel panic.

edit: tried camino again, i think i like it better. faster load time, and it seems faster than firefox. i do wish it had plugins though, i miss my download bar, but when doing mem intensive work it seems camino is less of a hog.

Yeah, I'm starting to think of trying out Firefox now, because the one thing that Camino doesn't do, is save forms (or auto-fill forms,) and I use forms often :|
