not that it matters much, but right before the game, my friend at work asked me which team would win and who would be MVP. I guessed the West would win and I said Kobe would try to win the MVP.

Looked back at boxscores for the previous ASGs, Bryant almost always gets the most minutes.

Amare Stoudamire deserved MVP, IMO.

He shot an incredibly high percentage and entertained a bit, but Vegas is so close to LA, and since his name is Kobe Bryant, that's why he won MVP.

If the east would of won, it would of been LeBron hands down - he would have had 20 more assists if his team could of converted or even caught his passes (atleast 5 times someone dropped his dead on passes)

Personally, I felt the best dunk of the night was Green over Robinson, just for the showmanship of it. That is the kind of creativity the dunk contest needs. We have almost reached the point where seemingly everything has been done, so it seems like it might come down to showmanship.

I agree wholeheartedly, it was the kind of showmanship the dunk contest has lacked at times.

Andrew, what you are saying about Dwights dunk is the reason it should have won. It was entertaining.

The entertainment factor is important but the fact remains the actual dunk attempt wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Maggette's somersault in the 2001 contest was one of the most entertaining moments of that contest but the dunk itself (which came after the somersault) was a regular two handed stuff, admittedly an emphatic one.

am i the only one that wishes they would add a retired players game to all star weekend? i would rather see retired players out there on friday night instead of the celebs. maybe its just me

I'd like to see that too, one similar to the event that was ultimately replaced by the Rookie game in 1994.

The All-Star game had its moments but the lopsided score throughout the second half made it very anti-climactic compared to recent years. I wouldn't personally go so far as calling it boring because it had its moments but it wasn't one of the more remarkable All-Star games, despite the records it set. At least the East made the final score somewhat respectable (by All-Star standards, anyway).

I guess it had nothing to do with Kobe's domination. Besides, Amare should not get MVP based on the fact that all he did was jumpshots and layups.

Yeah same happened with me & AS Saturday, i had friends over and for every comp we all guessed the winner, i got Wade in the skills, Gerald in the dunk contest, Kapono in the 3pt S-O, and would've had Chicago had Gordan not thrown out of time, i also guessed Barkley would beat Bavetta, even though i didn't want him too.

Anyway my thoughts on the whole weekend:

Rookie vs Sophmore game:
Entertaining, but not close enough and not enough D, even though it's a show-150 points? Monta Ellis through down like 3 or 4 alley oop jams in a row at 1 point, which was funny and David Lee perfect from the field, is a new record, which previously was 2-2, before a miss

Shooting Stars:
I liked this, i found it entertaining and funny, especially watching some of the HOF's missing 3 after 3. The WNBA players, hardly missed a shot, except in the final and a couple of half court shots. Also some contraversey in the final with Gordan's early shot was good.

Skills Challenge:
Very Boring, they didn't seem to be trying and the commentators agreed...Also the Wade v Kobe final was crap...

3pt Shootout:
Great! I was rooting for Kapono, the whole time and it was great to see him come out with the win. Gilberts 1 handers were good aswell, as he promised in his blog.

Dunk Contest:
Better than i expected, first of all i hate Nate and i didn't really like any of his dunks, so im glad he lost I thought alot of dunks were hard done by, especially by MJ, at 1 point someone went and interviewed him and asked him what he thought etc. and finished with "and my god you are tight! what do they have to do to get a good score?" Dwight's sticker dunk & Geralds jump over Nate with eyes covered both deserved 50's and were given low-mid 40's wtf?
But they gave a 50 to Gerald's windmill over the box, even though it was a friggen awesome dunk...
Im glad Gerald won, but i would've liked Dwight to be in the final cause apparently he was practicing a through the legs twice dunk...

All Star Game:
First full All Star game i've seen, i was really happy with Melo's minutes, especially for an injury replacement, he got more than most starters and 3rd most out of anyone, 20 points and 9 boards aint bad, along with a few dunks. Enjoyed it, but it was my first. I was hoping Melo could possibly score a few more and get that double double and possibly be an MVP candidate... Oh well

why should it matter how he scored his points? who cares if all he did was dunk the ball, do it enough and you just had a great game.
