Atlanta, Nov. 14th(AP) -- Joe Johnson tallies 42 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds to beat the Bucks at home.

After two consecutive losses the Bucks seemed to be the perfect opponent for the Hawks. But the Bucks came into the game stronger than expected.
Bobby Simmons found his touch early and scored 15 points in the first half. Mo Taylor added 10 points and also dished out 5 assists.
Michael Redd did again have his problems, doubled most of the time by the Hawks perimetre specialists. Joe Johnson who had to hear a lot of criticism in the last 5 days showed his A-game in the first half with 22 points out of 9-18 shooting. His biggest support was again Marv Williams who had 9 of his 11 points in the first half and was again able to achieve a double-double, his 5th of the season. But the Hawks were down by a small margin, 7 points. They opened the half with a strong defensive effort causing the Bucks to miss several shots in a row. Zaza Pachulia and Marv Williams were able to grab the boards and combined for 27 rebounds in the ball game, season-high 15 for Pachulia. With this strong hustling effort the Hawks ended the 3rd quarter on a run which they continued in the 4th. When Joe Johnson hit a three pointer with 10:38 left in the game they were on a 16-0 run. The Bucks were never able to find back in the game. Maurice Williams showed some energy, but did also throw up questionable three point attempts. Joe Johnson instead continued his show and dished out sweet passes and hit open jumpers. "It´s a shame that you all were talking about him not handling the pressure or even doubting his abilities. He has the complete package and he delivered it today.", Mike Woodson said. For the Bucks it was the 7th consecutive loss and a sign that they need to change something or this season will be a trip to the lottery. The Hawks were pretty satisfied with their bench. Rookie Shelden Williams scored 18 points and veteran Tyronne Lue added 16. Speedy Claxton had to leave the court after he suffered a minor finger injury when he tried to grab a rebound. He is said to be ok and will not miss any games. After this weaker opponent the Hawks will head to Cleveland meeting King James and company and then they will host the Heat with the Diesel and Flash. "I hope we can at least win one of these two games, although it would not be a shame to loose to them in my opinion.", Tyronne Lue claims. There have also been rumours about the Hawks signing free agents, but no information has been disclosed till now. The game @Cleveland will be on November, 17th.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will host the Atlanta Hawks tonight trying to extend their six game winning streak @Quicken Loans Arena. Currently the best team of the league the Cavaliers found a way to success with LeBron James being the leader of the team in almost every category, but not in scoring. "King James" is filling the sheet quite well, 7.4 boards, 6.9 assists, 2.25 steals and 1.25 blocks per game sound very nice. 18.8 ppg usually not. But the Cavs now have several role players stepping up. Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Donyell Marshall and Larry Hughes play more that solid these days. And when he needs to, LeBron is still able to decide a game on his own, like when he scored 30 in the last blowout over the Blazers. The Cavs have a good mixture of offense and defense. Inside defense in Ilgauskas and outside defense in two of the best perimetre defenders of the league with LeBron and Larry Hughes who combine for 5.5 of the team´s league-high 11.35 steals per game. The Hawks go into this game with huge respect. The best team in the East with maybe the best player of the lleague is always hard to contest. "They are the favorite tonight, but maybe this is what they do not like", Joe Johnson means. The guy is pretty confident after his 42 points performance last game vs the Bucks. Tip-Off will be on 7 p.m. @Cleveland.

Cavs show why they lead the East

Cleveland, Nov. 17th(AP) -- Cavaliers blow out Hawks at home.

The Cleveland Cavaliers remain number one in the East and in the league after a strong performance over disappointing Hawks. The Hawks went into the game as the outsider and from the very first beginning they were too nervous to contend the Cavs. Drew Gooden who got suprisingly many minutes after he complained about being the backup forward of Donyell Marshall took his chance and scored 12 points in the first half. He also added 6 boards. The Hawks showed maybe their weakest defensive effort of the season allowing the Cavs to score 42(!) points in the first quarter. Larry Hughes scored 12 of his 35 points in the first half, Eric Snow added 9 and 5 assists. LeBron James went into foul foul trouble in the first half and played only 30 minutes in the ball game. The Hawks did way better in the second quarter and held the Cavs under 20 points, but except Joe Johnson who scored 13 on a 6-13 shooting, no Hawk was able to make something happen on offense. Down by 23 they went into the 2nd half. And Cleveland again came out on fire. James finally on the court for longer time had 8 points in the 3rd on 4-4 shooting. His shot selection was excellent and he did also show some highlights like in the 4th when he dished out a no-look to Larry Hughes or when he went through the lane for the double-clutch jam against three Hawks. Atlanta could not do anything against the running Cavaliers. Marvin Williams missed a double-double after 5 in a row. Speedy Claxton did a good job finding his colleagues open, but was not able to score many points. Joe Johnson´s 27 points were not enough. Larry Hughes was the topscorer of the Cavs with 35 points. Scoring Leader Zydrunas Ilgauskas did only have 7 points but 11 rebounds. LeBron ended the game with 21 points,5 assists and 7 rebounds as well as 3 steals in 30 minutes. After this tough blowout the Hawks will head back to Atlanta to host the Miami Heat. "This is the toughest time of November, with the Cavs, the Heat and the Pistons in a row, I hope we can win one of the two games left", Mike Woodson told the media afterwards.
But with a nervous performance like this the Hawks will not win one game. Let´s hope they will bounce back tomorrow vs the Heat.

Cleveland played great defense: 13 steals and 8 blocks.

The Atlanta Hawks host the Miami Heat tonight @Phillips Arena. The Champ of last season is struggling at the moment and has only been able to achieve a .500% record. Dwyane Wade had a very weak start into the season and is now gradually stepping up. He averaged 26 points over the last two games. But the Heat were only able to win one out of these two, vs Denver(96-107) when Shaq did also contribut big with 25 points. Although they have one of the best bench they came up short too often. A big problem is the Point Guard spot. Gary Payton has starts, Jason Williams comes off the bench. Both can hit open jumpers and play great passes on offense, but are defensively too weak to guard stronger and quicker guards. This was the main problem against the Knicks yesterday where the Heat lost 93-88 and Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury combined for 51 of the 93 Knickerbockers´ points. A positive sign is the development of Udonis Haslem who did improve his game again and scores in double figurs and rebounds well. Antoine Walker is also playing great lately. The Hawks know that they need to win this game. On the one hand they want to grab at least one win out of the three tough consecutive games (@CLE, MIA, @DET), on the other hand they know that the Heat are beatable at the moment. "We will do everything, I think Miami is way easier to beat than the Cavs or the Pistons at the moment", Captain Joe Johnson says. he will be the key again in a team full of role players and just this one star. Tip-Off @ATL will be on 7:30 p.m. .
