First Set Of Returns For All Star Game

As I scroll down the list I'm pretty shocked by the stupidity of ASG voting. Things like Chris Mihm getting votes (despite being out for the season), Shane Battier getting more votes than Lamar Odom, Shawn Marion and Carlos Boozer (Shane fucking Battier???), Tracy McGrady ahead of Steve Nash despite doing shit all this season, Erick Dampier ahead of Marcus Camby, Joe Johnson currently 9th amongst east guards (barely ahead of Steve Francis, behind Stephon Marbury, Micheal Redd, Chancey Billups).

So what do you guys think of the votes thus far?

All I know is that if Shane Battier gets in over an MVP candidate thats leading his team in scoring, rebounding and is second in assists all while his team has the best record in the league... I probably won't be watching.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 6:56 am

You're surprised at a Rockets player getting alot of undeserved votes? David Wesley was nearly voted into the All Star game not long ago, we all know why.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 7:07 am

FUCKING FRANSISCO ELSON GOT SOMETHING LIKE 30000 VOTES!!!
Now THAT,is something that we can't live with. I mean,he ain't supposed to even Be in this ballot! wtf goes through somebody's mind when he sees the West Centers list? Yao,Amare,Camby,Even idk... Dampier? Mihm? whatever, why would anybody who's sane enough to realize what this ballot is,vote for Elson?

Now for the real thing...
Happy that Wade got enough votes for starters, but I think Joe Johnson will be better than AI,and he deserves it better. So do Kidd,Carter,Pierce etc.
Out west,I've noticed T-Mac(Fuck Yeah! :D)and KB24 got the most votes for guards, while Garnett, aswell as Duncan, got most for Forwards. My question is:
Are they gonna start with Kobe at the point and KG\TD at SF? what would the NBA do in such a case? I know last year VC got small and LBJ got power, but that's because JO was injured that time.
I wish both Shaq and Zo will be in the allstar, and Dwight will be the starting PF(Why is he even on the centers list?)...

Fri Dec 15, 2006 7:07 am

God damn, I'm just waiting for Sun Yue and Yi Jianlian to get drafted by teams other than the Rockets so it will hopefully even out.

What the...

Anyways I think you're right, give one Asian player to every team in the league and maybe we'll have some balanced voting.

I second that :D

...and if only the Chinese people was the only problem: What's up with Shaq getting more votes that Dwight Howard? Andre Iguodala over Emeka Okafor?

Hopefully David Stern has realized the stupidity of the all-star voting by next year and will let the coaches decide it all.

Even though I like having some influence, I would rather see two teams of actual star players going up against each other.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 7:57 am

Zo is pretty high in votes, I'd like to see him in the ASG one last time before he retires.

It's sickening that Carlos Boozer isn't number one in forward ballots. What's worse is that he's not even in the top 9!!

This voting system is so stupid. I wonder if a proxy would allow us to offset some of those annoying china votes. I'm surprised Ryan Bowen wasn't voted into the ASG last year the way they are biased towards the Rockets.

Edit: actually all you have to do is delete the cookies after each vote and it will let you vote again.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 8:15 am

Pau Gasol has 100,000 votes...and he wont even be back till the all star break.

But the east is pretty messed up with joe being so low and some guys over there.

In the west though, it looks alright, well...besides the Pau thing and the fact that Fransisco Elson is ahead of Chris Kaman. I bet 80% of nba viewers didn't even know who he was the last 2 years.

This is why the all star game sucks. Its not the best players, its the most popular, no matter how abd of a seson theyre having :cough:Marbury:cough:.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 8:21 am

Holy shit, I just noticed Zach Randolph isn't in there... 25/10 are all star worthy in my opinion. Okafor should be up there, so should Joe, Shane Battier shouldn't be anywhere near an All Star Ballot, Andre Miller should at least get a mention, and as much as I like T-Mac, he isn't worthy.

Actually, I wonder how many votes Zach Randolph actually has. Seriously, It doesn't take a whole lot to notice who deserves to be there. I don't give a fuck who Shane Battier plays for, but he IS NOT AN ALL-STAR. People want to see 2 things when it comes to the All Star game:

1) Exciting plays

2) Exciting players

Shane Battier doesn't do anything exciting. Voting for Shane Battier just makes the game more boring, because he isn't gonna bring any fun. Hey, lets all vote for Brian Cardinal! Maybe he will throw down a windmill in traffic from the stands off an alley oop from Chris Mihm, who will be at home watching the game! Fun!

Stupid voting system.

The All-Star game is not supposed to be the BEST players. It is the players the fans want to see.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 8:26 am

I'd vote for Pat Burke before I'd vote someone like Battier. At least he'd be enjoyable to watch, jacking three's from 30 feet out.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 8:33 am

The balloting selections are flawed. So many guys are on the list that are barely considered role players, and it's not because of hindsight, but because whoever made the list is retarded. All-Star voting starts, what, a month into the season? The list seems to be based on players' performances from last year.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 8:54 am

Interesting that Nash is the current MVP but may not even make the ASG if McGrady is healthy & can play.

I wonder if that's ever happened before...the MVP doesn't make the ASG.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 10:21 am

KG, Duncan, Nowitzki then Melo. Anthony is like the only small forward in the top ranks in the west so hopefully he is voted in as a starter, hell make the game anyway but it would be good if he started. I cant believe Battier is in the ranks hes played even worse than when he was with Memphis and he didnt get close their, Yao is ruining the voting. I'm wondering how the heck Chris Webber, Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis get in the ranks!!! These chinese people have no sense when it comes to the nba, they just vote for everyone on Yao's team or everyone who used to be on it (Francis). Maybe they should limit the voting to just America and Canada seeing as they are the owners of the sport if you will.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 10:24 am

Haha I Hope Melo gets screwed again. Even though he is having a breakout season it would still be extremely funny not seeing him on the all star team.

And that my friends..is thee post of this thread. People seem to think that the all-star game is supposed to be a reward for playing your best in a season. It's all about who the fucking fans want to see..if they wanna see francisco elson on the west and mikki moore on the east....they'll vote it and get it. It's our job to vote for who we wanna see as much as possible.

I don't see why not...it's happened before where a guy won two MVP's in a row and didn't deserve it.

Its not possible sorry Melo hater. He is already booked a spot according to the coaches and everyone else of the league its just a matter if he starts or not going by the fans choices looks like he wont. He is easily the best small forward in the West and 2nd in the league to only Lebron which is also debatable.

Oh come on, show some NBA basketball IQ, please.

Of COURSE Nash will make it to the all-star game. You people act as if you've forgotten how all-star players are voted. Fans vote for the starting lineups. And starting lineups are always a popularity contest, no matter how well the player performs.

The rest of the team is determined by coaches and there is no way Steve Nash will be left out. Steve Nash is not by far the most popular player out there, but he is one of the best players, and the best point guard in the league. Pat Riley commented him actually being the best player overall in the league as of right now. These are players who know the inside and out of basketball who rate players there, just as it is with alot more worthy titles like the MVP, people who know more than an average dreamer wearing their favorite high-fliers jersey day after day and who think that -stats- have any real direct impact on how good a player really is. And Carmelo will make it to the all-star game as well, not a popular player compared to overhyped people currently in starting lineup positions, but there is no way the coaches will not rate his effort as worthy.

It amuses me how so many NBA basketball fans value players purely based on either their a) stats or b) dunking or c) next-Jordan hype. Hah, I better not even mention skin color, people keep saying asian players, europeans or in general most non-african-americans are usually not worth 'that' much no matter what they do on court.

It's evident all across NBA basketball boards really. All-star game is a popularity contest, NBA 1st and 2nd team are stat contests, individual titles are skill and/or team perfomance contests. Or well, sort of.

So what that Yao gets so many votes? He has China behind him? China has alot of NBA basketball fans, is it bad that they deserve seeing the best center in the league in all-star game?

And Nash-hate is another thing that truly pisses me off. But I'm derailing the thread if I go there now, so I'll just shut up.

No its not bad when they vote Yao in, but what is bad is that they vote in the Houston scrubs and other members of the team who are playing like crap this season (McGrady) simply because of Yao.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 11:18 am

I don't think anyone has a problem with Yao being voted in it all this season. Like CMJ said, it's guys like McGrady and Battier getting ridiculous amounts of votes just because they play for the same team as Yao.

Yeah, that's bad. But same goes to many other fans around who vote only for their team members, or vote only for their favorite and leave others out. Or who do vote day after day after day after day.

All-star starting lineup is -not- fair. But, it is only the starting lineup! I have yet to see people in starting lineup who would not also be at least top 12 pick of NBA coaches. Yao would make it no matter what. Same with other players. If they deserve starting lineup spot is one thing, but in all-star game it has no that big influence anyway.

I'd much rather prefer if starting lineups are also based on coach votes, but All-Star game is a fan-focused event, an 'all star' game. And fans are the ones who really make player a star, that being why I've accepted the lineup voting the way it is. T-Mac doesn't deserve it? Perhaps not by stats and perfomance. But definetly by fame, people know him. That is why people like to see someone they know more, compared to someone they don't know yet posts up higher stats in a game.

Does that mean Joe Johnson or Paul Pierce are worse players than T-Mac and his injuries? Of course not, but, so? T-Mac has that flare and sparkle, which is what makes him an all-star instead of fantasy-dominating-stat-beast.

All-star teams based on skill are quite akward *thinks about NBA Live 07 and strange players from weak teams making into all-star game*, so even if all-star game is not the best display of skill, it's the best display of glamour, fame and hype of NBA basketball.

Fri Dec 15, 2006 11:34 am

Battier and Elson are not going to make it - trust me - the teams will be something very similar to this:

East - Shaq, Howard, Iverson, Wade, Carter, Lebron, Bosh, Arenas, Pierce, Arenas, Kidd, Hill.

West - Garnett, Duncan, Nowitzki, Carmelo, Kobe, McGrady, Nash, Paul, Yao, Amare, Marion, Odom (OK, I'm not completely sure about the last two, but it seems that they would get in somehow).

Fri Dec 15, 2006 11:57 am

You dont understand that some of these NBA players dream of playing in the allstar game hence thats why they try to get there and then T-mac walks in injured the whole season and doesnt give a rats about the NBA anymore and gets to start over someone whos worked their asses off to get to the game. The allstar game was originally ment for people who have played like All-stars during the season, not for someone whos got "fame" too show up simply because of his name. I think Stern has ruined it and he gives no recognition to the players who are actually playing like All-stars. For some players making the all-star team is a real honour and i imagine it would be so what the hell is Mcgrady going to be honoured for doing this season for him to make the all star game??? injuring his back??? You cant just say Mcgrady deserves to play because hes McGrady its just stupid if you ask me.

I thought you were worth discussing this with CMJ until you came up with something as stupid as:

some of these NBA players dream of playing in the allstar game hence thats why they try to get there and then T-mac walks in injured the whole season and doesnt give a rats about the NBA anymore and gets to start over someone whos worked their asses off to get to the game.

I can't stand people who shoot only hate towards certain players. Of course T-Mac cares. About the league, his team, his fans and game. He tries damnit, it is not like people can fight injuries like that. Injuries have ruined many careers, it does not matter that suddenly T-Mac will have less fans. His fans want to see him there, they vote for him, and there he will be. And if he is injured at the time, he won't be playing in the all-star game anyway.

Deal with it CMJ. It is a popularity contest. Flare and fame and sparkles. Fans vote, and fans get to see their favorites. As simple as that. Everybody dreams of being an all star, that does not mean they will be, that's what popularity is. Did you not learn in highschool?
