Garnett: Will he stay or will he go?

The Bulls could use Garnett a lot. They need someone who can actually score in the post and be consistent.

At the end of the day, KG is a 20 & 10 guy. And that's very respectable in this league, but there are a lot of 20 & 10 guys like Elton Brand, Shawn Marion, JON, Chris Webber (even without his knees). But KG is the only one that people consistently say "deserves" to get a ring...what about Brand & Marion?

Talent-wise, he's better than your average PF but he's nowhere on the same level as guys like Olajuwon...another guy everybody agreed "deserved" a ring (and eventually got it during Jordan's vacation).

Garnett is a better rebounder than all of those guys, a better overall defender, a better passer, shoots a better percentage and is more than just a 20-10 guy. Garnett is more like 23-12-5-4-2-1.5.

Oh, and KG also has nobody to compete for stats with. He never has. You bring up his lack of teammates all the time. All of those guys have put up their numbers with quality teammates for the most part.

personally- i'm the type of person who wants to see the movie in it's entirety, not just the first 3/4 of it

seriously- as i've mentioned before- if the Bulls, or any team for that matter, are going to trade away their best player, another solid player with potential, most of their salary cap, and then the knicks pick- they'd want more then someone who is a glorified 2nd fiddle (this you have yet to reply to yet, riot)

but the Bulls would actually still be better then the T'wolves if they were to gut their roster to get him.

By the way, I don't know if many of you read much Bill Simmons, but here is his article about KG. I like a lot of what he has to say in it. I want to see KG traded because it will give us all a good measuring stick of how good he really was. Hell, maybe Riot is right, but we may never know if KG isn't given the chance to play on a GOOD team.

How do you compete for assists, steals or blocks? It's not like you can steal those from someone. As for rebounds and points, Garnett can get those on any team. He gets his points by shooting a great percentage. He gets his rebounds because he has great timing, awareness and is just a freak athletically. He sees the ball and then goes and gets it.

He never has.

Garnett's best season ever came when he actually had talent around him. How can you agrue that Garnett is a product of stat padding and having bad teammates? His stats get better when he has better players around him and his team is better. It usually is the other way around, right? Or atleast that is what you are aruging.

Yes, I do bring up the lack of quality teammates all the time. Which is why I find it amazing that Garnett averaged 6 assists per game in 2002-2003 on a team that had Wally Szczerbiak as it's second best player (Hudson 3rd) (and he missed 1/3 of the year). Not only did he average that, but he lead them to the 4th seed in the Western Conference. Not too shabby for a team that had a starting line-up of Hudson-Peeler-Gill-Garnett-Nesterovic for 30+ games.

Not that it really matters. The world is so driven on championships to the point where that defines their legacy and their ability. You don't need to be a champion to be a great player. You need to be on a great team to be a champion. They do not award the championship to the team with the best player on it. They award it to the team that finished the season as the last one standing. It takes more than one person to win a championship. Michael Jordan didn't do it alone. Magic Johnson didn't do it alone. Larry Bird didn't do it alone. Shaquille O'Neal didn't do it alone. Kevin Garnett can't do it alone. So what? Atleast players like Garnett, Iverson and Reggie Miller value loyalty and respect their franchises and fans for all that they have given them. Like Cyanide said...both Iverson and Garnett want to win championships but they want to win one for their city and franchise above all else. I don't know why that should hinder or damage Garnett's legacy at all.

If the Bulls had Garnett they'd probably constantly be so far ahead by the end of the 3rd that whether he shows up or not in the 4th wouldn't matter.

i know the bulls have some good depth, but not that good. my guess is that it would at least take this to land Garnett:
either hinrich or gordon
deng or tyrus thomas
nyk's 1st round pick
and then some expiring contracts to match KG's ginormous salary- sweetney and/or pj brown

that would leave a lineup of

thabo
nocioni
KG
Wallace

bench: duhon, scraps, and whatever garbage the t'wolves add to the deal

You also forgot to mention that Garnett didn't impact the league from a statisical perspective.

He influenced the trend of teams taking risks on highschoolers with their lottery picks with the likes of McGrady and Bryant. In a way, he paved the way for some of the biggest highschool-to-pro superstar talents, although some have not been as successful as predicted.

He also revolutionized the power foward position. How many lanky, athletic, multi-talented fowards do you see nowadays compared to before Garnett was drafted?

asdf- what you mentioned, i don't think that's the point being debated here. i think a lot of people here understand that KG is perhaps the most influential player in his era when factoring non statistical stuff
