I was having a discussion with Matt on MSN and we're wondering, who is the quikest player in the NBA?...Iverson or Tony Parker? it'd be interesting to find out...
Well here's a poll...Take your pick...I threw a couple of other quikies in there too in case you think otherwise...

I voted for Iverson, it's so close it's not funny though

I have to say Iverson, but Tony Parker is no Sabonis when it comes to running the floor.

I'm having to go with Steve Nash on this one. Iverson has lost a step since his first few years in th L. I saw Nash last week, and Iverson twice in the past three years. Nash now is quicker than Iverson two years ago. He seems to penetrate much more effortlessly and consistantly than Iverson does these days. If Iverson in his second year was on the list though....

Thats interesting... I like to think of Steve Nash as more deceptively quick than anything. He doesn't look that fast (and in my opinion, he isn't) so defenders are more worried about his jumpshot, which allows him to penetrate with more ease. Just my opinion though.

Does it matter whether someone is truly fast or just deceptively quick as long as the job gets done? This isn't the NFL, and coaches in the L aren't basing their decisions on how fast you can run the 40. And since this is a Live board, shouldn't we acknowledge the difference between speed and quickness. Being quick in basketball terms means things like tearing by defenders who are facing you up and always being around loose balls. Quickness doesn't refer to who can sprint the best. Iverson is up there in my top five still, but Nash has the footwork and reflexes to always get the job done. If it weren't for basketball, Nash would probably being playing on the Canadian national soccer team alongside his brother. Therefore, IMHO, he is the quickest.
Speaking of fastest player in the L, who do you think it is? Has anyone in this day and age been able to match Chamberlain for pure speed (who ran like a track star but with the long strides of a 7-footer)?

What about Tyrone Lue?

No...Nobody ever said that was the only thing that matters...It's just a simple topic of curiosity...

I think it does matter if someone is deceptively quick or not in this thread. Just simply becuase a player can get to the rim easily in half court offense doesnt mean the player is the fastest in the league. Steve Nash, like I said before, gets to the rim becuase he has a deadly jumpshot which forces his defender to play tight on him. That's Steve Nash using his basketball I.Q to his advantage, and not him being the quickest in the league.
As I said before, I voted for Iverson

Kobe shouldnt be on the list, he used to be a fast player but his bulked up body slowed him a lot
Wed Nov 13, 2002 12:47 am
Lue and Atkins where left out of this list?
Wed Nov 13, 2002 1:51 am
Lue is fast as hell, so is Ginobili
Wed Nov 13, 2002 5:36 am
Jason kidd on the list... lol
I mean he's fast but he sure isn't that fast
Wed Nov 13, 2002 7:12 am
ivy...no need to specify why...he just is...

I agree 100 % with what Mxgibbins said.

It's Iverson, hands down. He's the quickest off the dribble that I've ever seen.
Best,
P

Definitely Iverson..
2001 finals..only Lue could chase him..and even then he was blowing by him and all Lue could do is foul him..
I agree that Kobe..Spree and Kidd shouldn't be on that list..

Jason Williams is the Quickest player in the league, he is no match for Allen Iverson,,,

Craig Speedy Claxton.

Do you mean Jason Williams is extremely quick, but Iverson is even quicker, so Williams is no match for Iverson, or do you mean Iverson is no match for Williams because Williams is quicker?
By the way isn't it quickest?

I haven't seen any player who has even
matched Wilt athletically. It'll probably be a long time coming, if it happens.

i think there is a distinction between quick and fast
i think iverson is both quick and fast.
i think kukoc is quick but not fast.
i heard back in his hayday that horace grant was one of the fastest players, if not the fastest, in the league
quickest player: iverson
fastest: not sure, but i would put kidd up there. he's faster then a lot of nba players when he's dribbling the ball

yeah i agree with NBA Fan 23. when talking about who's the quickest, Iverson should no doubt be the one with steve francis coming close!
