but isn't the standings a little ridiculous?
Only 3 teams above .500 in the East( and only 4 below .500 in the West), the Celtics are tied for the division lead in the Atlantic, the horrendous Knicks are only one game out, and worst of all, every team except Memphis right now in the West is better than the 8th seed in East.

I hope this doesn't continue through the season, it would really suck to see a team go for 35wins and make the playoffs in the East.

The 2004 Boston Celtics had 36 wins and were the 8 seed, the Pacers massacred them that season in the first round, but other then that I can't think of a team that bad that got in.

Well the 1991 Nets finished below .500 with 40-42 W/L and managed to get to the playoffs where they were swept by the Cavs or the 2003 Knicks with 39-43.

Well, if you're just talking about below 500, the Bucks were 40-42 last year.

It's been a surprising start to the season to say the least. Apart the Spurs and the Mavericks the league has been pretty topsy-turvy with teams most expected to be average at best such as the Jazz, Hornets and Magic owning some of the best records in the league. Only 7 teams have fewer than five losses so far and 17 are .500 or worse.

Don't forget that the Atlantic Division leaders are the nets with 6-9,Minnesota and Miami are both 6-8,with HEAT being 4-8 and TWolves being 6-6 two games ago, that if we would take all the first 8 teams in each conference,we would've had 4 negative teams in the east that would make it,and 2 positive(plus one .500 in the clippers)who doesn't in the west.

Its also a little ironic that the East have won the All-Star game the last two seasons.

I was thinking of just now after hearing them talk about it earlier on espn. Head-to-Head the West has something like 50+ wins to the East's 10+. Dont quite know the exact numbers but its kinda crazy. At first I thought it was just very competitive but man the numbers dont lie.

Not really. The West has better teams, East has better individual players, I would say.

Well the Pacers finally have some seperation between the 500 mark after the extremely exciting Golden State win yesterday.

9-7!
