2006-2007 Season Euroleague Thread

I figured I should create a topic about Euroleague. The 2006-2007 season has started yesterday with Panathinaikos beating Joventut 82 : 79. Today 5 games are also played, and tomorrow will be played remaining 6 games of the first round. Zalgiris Kaunas, my hometown team will play tomorrow against Benneton Treviso and I expect only the best results.

Anyone here is interested in Euroleague?

Oh man, I'm not the only Zalgiris fan here, woohoo. :D

Anyway, by the looks of it, Acker is just great in European basketball, today against TAU:
26 points, 13 rebounds, 3 steals ect.

I'm really looking forward to the new season, since Zalgiris has strenghtened alot. Great job by the staff in the offseason. M. Popovic, M. "Marcelinho" Machado, H. Mottola. P. Jankunas, T. Beard, K. Penney (if stays) are the main players of the team. I also expect much from Kalnietis, I think he could get ~20 MPG switching guard spots, cause, at least in LKL/BBL, he played alot better than Ginevicius.

Too bad Marcelinho wont play yet, but he has recovered, just need a little reabilitation.

Hopefully this will be a great season for us, the official (realistic) teams goal is to reach the quarterfinals, but we (Liths) all know, what the real goal is, when we have Popovic.

You are not the only, but I guess we are only 2 here

Well yeah, Acker now has the best ranking so far in the first round along with Mike Batiste and I think nobody will get more today.]

And we should win today, theorically, if we look at the rosters, but the shit happens sometime..

Well, as I was told, Benneton are not playing well recently, and the results just prove it. So i expect a win, nothing less. But, as you said, shit happens.

I wonder how many active posters from Lithuania are here? So far I know only you two.
Anyway, about the game, I am really dissapointed with the defense. Why the fuck to use the damn zone, if they are hitting all the threes? At least try the man to man defense. Penney was really bad defensively, Beard was the victim of unexpected Nelson and Goree threes. But there were bright things yesterday, and at least for me it seemes that Zalgiris has stronger players individually, it was just Bennetons night. Anyway, I'm sure Bagatskis can solve the defense until the next game and we will win against Napoli.

Except you two, I also know Joker, Panco

Yeah it was so painful to watch that defense and all these 3s going to our basket. Penney was really bad at the defensive end, but he made his job on offense and I quite like him.

Anyway seems that nobody else are interested in Euroleague here

Well as far as I saw, we lost it because of the strategy... First of all, if the zone defense doesn't work, so why do you keep repeating it? Well at least try to defend the 1 on 1, not zone... And why was Bagatskis keeping Kalnieties on the court, if he was playing bad and was collecting foul by foul... I believe Penney substituted him really well, I just don't get what is Bagatskis thinking...

Damn a loss to Barca, although i expected it. But some minutes at the end of the game were optimistic for me, but that foul by Penney :shake: ...oh well
