Damn... I hate to see hitm go, he was one of the guys I was really looking forward to seeing this year, not just in games but also the dunk contest. I really, really, hope he gets picked up soon because he could become a pretty decent player, and everyone wants to see what he can do in the contest in Vegas this year, not in some dusty old gym in Russia. I really thought the Pacers liked him.... Oh well.

*trots over to google/wiki*

edit: Well I just updated the Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Whit ... _player%29

He was caught in a numbers game. He got arrogant and thought his spot on the team was set in stone. He stopped working hard, and didn't play well. On the other hand, Rawle Marshall played outstanding and deserves the spot on the team.

Yeah damn I would love to see him in the dunk contest too but he better not choke like in NCAA contest.

He's a kick ass althete and I'm hoping that Phoenix will pick him up since he seems like the perfect fit on a team, although I don't think they have enough room for him.

I hope White bounces back, he still has very good potential even though he's been known to have a few attitude issues.

Glad to hear that Marshall has been playing well, Indy. One of my favs on the Pacers. (Y)

there you go again with the potential thing, asdf hehe ;)

he should try and play football with those athletic talents. he could be someone like Joe Jurivicious.. an awesome end zone threat

Does White have to be signed to compete in the Slam Dunk contest?

Well, he just wants to be in that so I'm guessing if he pays a team to sign him for 10 days, he could be eligible

why did indiana even trade for him :?:
but idk we got a 2nd rounder or 2 for him :)

They thought he would have a good chance of making the roster I guess...

I'm sorry. I can't control myself when a player is 6'6, can jump out of the gym and runs like a deer.

It's too orgasmic.

Wow, that's surprising, just because everybody has been raving about him in the dunk contest. I guess that's how far attitude can take you.

Wed Nov 01, 2006 1:53 pm

Was he a first round pick? Unusual to waive a draft pick after not even playing one game, something must of occured i reckon.

Wed Nov 01, 2006 1:55 pm

First pick of the second I think. It was only because Rawle Marshall and Josh Powell played so well, as Carlisle said it was the toughest cut he had made since being a head coach, and that James would be a good player down the track, to me that shows there was no attitude problems and he was simply outplayed.

By the way, where does the "attitude problems" stem from?

I heard he got too comfortable and complacent, stopped working as hard as he did in the summer, sort of wrote his own ticket out.

Probably. On two occasions they've let two players not under NBA contract compete in the three point shootout but the slam dunk contest has only ever featured players who were on an NBA roster at the time.

I didn't think he would make the team to tell you the truth....you have to bring more to the table than athleticism....he's been an athletic freak his whole college career but never built on that potential....not unhappy to see him out of the league to tell you the truth....

yeah, on second thought, how can you be a rising star when you're not on a team?

Thu Nov 02, 2006 9:32 am

he was the 31 overall pick, 1st one gone in the 2nd round...

Thu Nov 02, 2006 10:28 am

D'ho ! I really liked that guy, even when he played in Cincinnati, and in summer leagues... but yes, Rawle deserves that roster spot more than James White. (Y) Good luck on your next team, James.

Thu Nov 02, 2006 1:25 pm

The only time i can think of when someone participated an all star game festivity was craig hodges when he was protecting his 3 point crown in the 90s. The bulls cut him but he still got to defend his title.

Thu Nov 02, 2006 1:31 pm

Rimas Kurtinaitis took part in the 1989 contest by special invitation. Those are the only two exceptions that have been made so far.

Thu Nov 02, 2006 3:20 pm

1989, damn you either really really knowledgable in the NBA... that or you're old... or both

And was this Rimas dude from Lithuania?

Thu Nov 02, 2006 4:15 pm

Didn't the lakers want to draft James white?

Fri Nov 03, 2006 3:26 am
