This is bullshit, really. You have no identity in the league anymore. It is sad that you must wear a certain length of wristbands and headbands etc. It doesn't really affect players' games or anything.

Yea, I'm talking about those tight little panty looking things they wore decades past.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 3:01 am

aka john stockton shorts

I guess the league is trying to help the black community.. since many follow NBA Stars as role models...by making NBA players more professional looking (must come to games looking decent) and now less things to distinguish themselves from everyone in the game making them focus more on the game than what they wearing.

How many fucking retards concentrate more on the arm bands on players than the game?

Guilty... just kidding.

NBA's image is slightly tainted though because of the misfit/street image seen through all the players though. Look at every other sporting league in the world: soccer, tennis, rugby, baseball, cricket, etc...

Sun Oct 29, 2006 11:03 am

And anything that focuses everyone on that is nothing but fun in the NBF — the Nothing But Fun league

David Stern should be shot for attempting that joke.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 11:48 am

As I see it, the NBA was great in the 80's and 90's and back then nobody had to have all their "identities" for games to be good.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 11:52 am

Whats the deal with knee pads? Is shaq still allowed to wear his?

Sun Oct 29, 2006 12:12 pm

I honestly dont even notice any of that stuff when the game is going on and I doubt the players do either so I dont see how its distracts/disrupts anyone/anything.

Look at every other sporting league in the world: soccer, tennis, rugby, baseball, cricket, etc...

In football you got guys like Edgar Davids with his stylish goggles or players like Ronaldinho with his thick nike headband. Many tennis players dress outrageous also (too often to point out). Rugny players are nute, I dont notice anything they have on under all the blood and guts. At least baseball guys get to wear jewelry (chains are what I notice)....so do cricketers.

To me just let the guys wear what they wanna wear as long as it isnt overly ovending a vast majority of viewers. Times/cultures change and you gotta give them some room for expression. We arent in the 90s or 80s anymore.

I think he's talking about trying to get uniformity.
"It's not about the particular player. Who should care if one player does something that is a little bit different or quirky?" he said. "But then when you have 20 players do it, the uniform is no longer uniform. One uniform has an arm, another one has a leg and a third one has a bunch of bulging shirts out from under it."

Basketball is a team sport, so the players actually have to look like they are a team.
I guess since a lot of the 'teams' no longer play like teams, Stern just wants them to look like a team. But anyway, I don't see why they can't wear arm bands on their elbows or biceps.

Also, the change of attire is probably not something new. Jordan used to wear a chain around his neck, but after a while he didn't, wasn't there some sort of rule added to stop players doing that? This rule change is probably in that category.

i cant believe this bullshit. No sleeve for Melo? i can hardly even imagine that now, he even had one in the Fiba World Chamionships, he probably sleeps with it on.
Maybe if the players care as much as some of us they'll go on strike or something

Sun Oct 29, 2006 3:15 pm

When the subject of banning sleeves first came up I recall reading that exceptions may be made if it aids a player with a legitimate medical condition which is why AI began wearing one in the first place. Perhaps they'll still make those exceptions.

Or maybe it will be similar to the issue with the new ball with Stern donning a sleeve himself, declaring it doesn't help him at all and ruling that there'll be no exceptions.

To answer that question, all you have to do is check out your local street and/or youth basketball games. You're bound to see handfulls of kids donning the similar band/sleeve styles of their favorite players. I'm not saying it's a bad thing -- but the styles are reaching their audience; people are certainly paying attention, whether they realize it or not.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 8:30 pm

Pretty disappointing, just like people mentioned more power than improvement here. I only agree with the warm-ups rule, speeding up of the game and technicals for excessive whining. A.I and Melo won't look right and also T-Mac with the thing on his leg. The league is shooting itself in the foot with this one.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 8:40 pm

This is so stupid(well except technicals). I do believe players like Kobe and Wade will be complaining about this. Doesn't Stern notice he's making silly decisions?

Now that's a pretty sight.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 11:39 pm

I didn't mind the AI sleeves, but they were with uniform colours generally....I just didn't like the stupid leg length black tights on both legs....players from Wade to Bogut to any chump were wearing them....if they want to be speed skater, then they can change sports....if they want to play basketball, lose those speed skater black tights....

Mon Oct 30, 2006 9:50 am

With the tights, I'm sure everyone on the Bucks was waering them... it was the thing to do if you were a Buck... but I could be wrong!

yeah ck gave a link to a pic of the bucks wearing the tights

It was the Bucks that made me realise it was most probably the trainer who told them to wear the socks...
Half the bloody team wore it, it seems logical that it was mostly the trainers influence to try and protect the players

Mon Oct 30, 2006 7:17 pm

Nah, they all wanted to get in touch with their feminine sides

Mon Oct 30, 2006 8:37 pm

what is Stern thinking? hes taking these rules way too far :shake:

Davids = Some form of glaucoma (sp?), some eye condition. Plus, I'm sure those goggles don't really help him, blocks of peripheral vision perhaps.

Ronnie = Think about it this way: Ronnie is the current MJ of soccer. He can do what he likes. Plus, head bands in soccer can not be compared to headbands in the NBA.

Tennis = individual sport. No team based attire needed. It's a fashion based sport (*cough).

Baseball = non-contact sport (except when they're not fighting), so jewellery doesn't matter.

i think stern needs to be shot already.. I mean.. Its already his time.. Hehehe..

He's such a shmuck!!! When he introduced the new ball...

And shaq and some other players were complaining.. He said that there should be no complaints entertained and the ball will be official..

Now.. I know the players will be complaining about this and I think he's still gonna be the one to be followed..

It sure sucks when u think like him..

I think those sleeves had a purpose coz before stern wanted the players to cover up their tattooes.. And now he wants player to flaunt them by not letting em wear sleeves!! What the f*** is up with that!!!

Now players cant have their own look anymore..

And soon...

I think stern is going to ban braids and long hairs of the players..

I think he will want them to sport 2x3 hair cuts and white side walls...

And the next thing...

I think he'll be wanting the players to wear tuxedos while playing the game!!

If i was the owner of the NBA.. Id f***ing FIRE his a**....

Tue Oct 31, 2006 3:16 am

Hes a bit too obsessed with making the NBA more appropriate for business. First the pregame attire rule, now this? Anyone think he might just be a fashion designer in disguise?
