Vertical Jumps

Does anyone know of a site that lists the vertical leaps of any number of NBA players? Looking to go beyond the Top 5 or so jumpers in the league here...

Thanks, in advance.

I remember a longer list that I saw before, but can't find it. Here's a "smaller" version: http://www.jumpusa.com/psj.html

now if only he could transfer some of that summer league form of old into the makings of a solid NBA player, then we might be impressed by his ability to touch the top of the backboard....

Lebron isn't there, but if I remember correctly, he had a vertical of 37''.

The important thing is: very few people has a vertical of over 40''. Even the elite dunkers have less than that. It's not the vertical you achieve that makes you athletic, it's your overall explosivness. So although VC is one of the best dunkers in the world, I wouldn't claim he had a vertical of over 40'' in his prime. And anyone who says his vertical is 44''+ and plays basketball for a living is 95% lying. Nate Robinson at 5'8 in socks has a vertical of 43.5'' and had the highest measured vertical jump of everyone in the last 6 or so years. You don't get more athletic than that. Remember: all those players who are considered to be elite dunkers are 6'6. Hell, Steve Francis is 6'3 in shoes. People tend to compare themselves with people half a foot taller than them which leads to exagaration.
"Sometimes a player's greatest challenge is coming to grips with his role on the team." (Scottie Pippen, #33)

So although VC is one of the best dunkers in the world, I wouldn't claim he had a vertical of over 40'' in his prime.

I don't think it's quite as rare as you say, unless i'm misreading you. I would be very surprised if VC did NOT have a vertical of at least 40. If you're saying low 40s is the max, i agree with you. But if you're saying very few NBA players break 40s, i disagree.

Just as an example, there's a lot of kids in just last year's draft with 40" verticals:

Will Blalock: 40.0
Ronnie Brewer: 41.0
Jordan Farmar: 42.0
Rudy Gay: 40.5
Dwayne Mitchell: 41.5
Brandon Roy: 40.5

and notably Tyrus Thomas & Solomon Jones, both as big men still jumped 39.5 and 39.0.

We've all seen these guys play in college & some summer league games, i think we can agree VC in his prime got more air than Brandon Roy or Jordan Farmar.

That logic is flawed. Like I said, it's not the height you achieve that makes you athletic, but your explosivness, quickness of your jump. Roy or Farmar NEVER use their verticals to their fullest extent and VC does that often. His strength and explosivness enable him to do that. It is debatable whether Iguodala or Carter is the better athlete and look at AI's vertical - 34.5''. I can't remember seeing a better leaper than Tyrus Thomas in the recent times and his vertical is a bit under 40'', less than either Roy or Farmar, both described as guys with average athleticism. Thing is, players like Carter, Iguodala, Josh Smith, Thomas, Gay (...) are 6'6, 6'7 with tremendous standing reach and quickness of their jump. Those are the main ingridients that make one seem like a great leaper. Sure, you need a very good vertical (34-40''), but most of the numbers you find over the Internet (44-48'') are pure bullshit. There's a test in the NBA with which they test the elite leapers - the 12' mark. Very few achieve it. Tyrus Thomas and Rudy Gay were the only ones in the past draft that did it, both elite athletes in the Jordan class, just incredible all-around athletes.

And Tyrus will be a SF in this League, book it. He's 6'7 in socks and will have all of the necessary skills.

I don't really disagree with your assessment of valuable in-game leaping ability, but the OP specifically wanted to talk about measured vertical leaps.

And i understand what you're saying is that you don't need a high vertical to be a great dunker, ala Iguodala. Agreed. But that really doesn't mean VC must have a sub 40 vertical leap...you can be a BOTH a good dunker and have a high vertical just like Josh Smith, Gay, Thomas, etc.. The fact that VC is a great dunker doesn't prove he has a sub 40 vertical.

running vertical jump, i think most elite dunkers can reach 40... standing vertical(2 feet standing) is a different matter. the one's fenix listed are standing verticals

I really think that to be a good basketball player you need to jump high, that's bullshit. As long as you can knock down shots and handle the ball, you can play in almost any league. (Y)

That really suprised me too... I live near Seattle and I watched him all the time all throughout his career and never would have guessed that he really he could jump as well as guys like Vince Carter and Ronnie Brewer.... He's probably not as strong in the air as guys like that are though, but regardless, he'll still be able to go up for a layup, have time to think about it, and then change it to a nice pass before even reaching the height of his jump...

He'd really suprise people if he just pulled off a facial dunk in the middle of some game though, sort of like Devin Harris on Chris Anderson...

Martell Webster with a 30.5 inch vert... for some reason I always assumed he was around the 36-37 mark

Tell me one big time in-game dunker that isn't either tall, long and incredibly explosive? Only height can be replaced with extra inches on your vertical (Nate Robinson, 5'8 in socks, 6'1 wingspan (very good for a 5'8 guy), 43.5'' vertical). If VC had a 43.5'' vertical like Nate does and kept that long, strong, tall body of his, he'd be even more incredible leaper that he is. If Nate - at 5'9 - can threw down those kind of dunks, imagine what a 6'6 guy would be able to do.

If he had a 36-37 vert then he wouldn't be so heavily criticized on being solely a jumpshooter.

Fenix, can you post those stats like above for the most recent draft class? Would really help me in making my roster. I searched the link you provided but couldn't find the data. Thanks, and sorry.
