Just remember this, in 10 years Kobe will be 38 years old. Michael Jordan was 34 years old at the beginning of his final championship season. MJ also took 2 years off when he was 30 years old. That saved him 2 years of battering in the NBA, which gave him a little more time before age took him down. He won 3 more titles, and retired again. He took 4 years off. He came back at age 38 (the same age you believe Kobe will surpass Mike), and at that point had a total of 6 years rest during his career. He averaged 22.9ppg 5.7rpg and 5.2apg compared to the 30.1ppg 6.4rpg 6.1apg he had averaged 10 years earlier. At age 39, when the 2002-03 season began, he averaged 20.0ppg 6.1rpg 3.8apg - nice averages, but no where near his season of 32.6ppg 6.7rpg 5.5apg that he had 10 years earlier. Do you see how age effects NBA players? Do you see how it effected the greatest player in the modern NBA even though he took a total of 6 years off from the NBA?
Kobe Bryant has not retired from the game, he hasnt taken a break. He skipped college, and despite his athleticism, still took a beating during his first years because he was so young. You asked "If MJ was so good in his final 3 seasons with the Bulls, how good is Kobe going to be at that point?" You have to remember what I said earlier. MJ had 2 years off from the NBA at that point, plus he was still only 34 when he began his final season with Chicago. I can't see how you believe that Kobe, as great a player as he is, will be better than a guy he has failed to match throughout his career when he is 38 years old, 4 years older than when Mike started his final championship season?
Mike has been ahead of Kobe step for step throughout their respective careers. MJ took 6 years off in total, and still age got him at 38. Why do you think Kobe, who has not taken time off, nor matched Mike in any way throughout his career, will be immune to age and put up better stats, win more championships and become a better overall player at 38? It will not happen.

That doesn't even make any sense.

SO youre saying, Flite_23, that he's NOT going to get another ring?
He's not going to collect 2-4 MVP's?
He's not going to possibly be DPOY?
I think he will get all 3 of these awards in the NEXT 5-8 years. He might not be the greatest, but he will come pretty close. He will decline eventually, but he will still be productive throughout his career.
That being said, Lebron won't be at KB8's level UNTIL he wins some titles.

LeBron may never win a ring, but looking at his age and his numbers, he's going to be the league's hottest for many years to come. Sorry to say, but he's going to dwarf Kobe in terms of publicity and perhaps numbers if LeBron continues his dominance at this rate to his early 30's.

LeBron is for real.
But saying he's not in his league is asinine.

I never said and or thought either of those players could become the greatest of all-time at no point in their careers. But if you're trying to say injuries could prevent him from reaching his full potential, that's a valid point. Even though I don't see it happening, dudes built like a tank.
Well, so be it, because he's not. He may share a similar, familiar style, do things that remind us of what once was, but there are 2 major things that set them apart:
1. Kobe's a rerun, MJ's the original.
2. Intelligence. MJ's understanding of the game is what Kobe cannot emulate.
Wow, so convincing. Kobe is trying to emulate the greatest player of all time (in a similar way MJ tried to emulate West and Dr J), and thats somehow a negative factor in Kobe's greatness?
