Rodney Carney has a hater board.

On it are clippings from newspapers and magazines - story after story, he says, written by "haters" who have doubted his abilities, both when he played at the University of Memphis and since the 76ers took him in the first round of June's NBA draft.

He had them framed.

But Carney was brought here to stop people. He held his own against Duke's Redick and Gonzaga's Adam Morrison last season, but this is a step up in weight class and experience.

"When I talked to Billy King, he said, 'Are you ready to play defense?' " Carney said. "I said, 'Yeah, I'm ready to play defense all the time.' And I'm getting a workout guarding Korver. He uses screens very well. I can guard him one-on-one, but when it comes to him using screens, he's very smart."

In time, maybe Carney and Iguodala will become the kind of one-two defensive duo capable of switching off on the league's most lethal scorers.

Ugh. I saw him play only once, but he seems to me like JR Smith with more defense. He's retarted in terms of BB IQ.

He's more like a more rounded out version of Darius Miles, but he's got about the same b-ball IQ.

Carney isn't the nut-case either Miles or JR are. He's deff my fav rookie of this season. Deffinately one of the better athletes.

No, I actually saw him play. He just doesn't know what to do with that leather ball in his hands. My dad said the same thing.

Well, I've seen him play many times, and he does have a low B-ball IQ.

That's just a downside to his game, doesn't mean I don't like him, because I do. Some players can have low IQs about the game and still be successfull. He isn't as dumb as Darius Miles, but he's on Stephen Jackson's level. Jack puts up 16-18 points per game with that bad IQ, I think Carney will do the same in a few years.

Charlie Villanueva did the same thing during his rookie year as well, so I guess I'm not as suprised about this kind of thing as Mr. Shadowgrin.

Carney is definitely one of my favourites this draft along with Brewer, Roy, Thabo, Shawne Williams and a whole bunch of others.

You're right, what's the point of speculating based on what we've seen from him in college? In fact, what's the point of talking at all?

There's no problem offering an opinion, just try to be rational with it. For example, some of the criticism in this thread is misguided analogies comparing him to JR Smith and Ron Artest, becuase he's simply an athlete? Its the same kind of rubbish comparison as Jerry STackhouse to MJ simply becuase they went to North Carolina and played shooting guard.

Actually, I compare him to JR Smith, because they to have similar deficiences on the court (sure, I saw only one game, but scouting reports generally agree with me, so I presume I got the right impression). He's a poor ballhandler, shoots from long range way too much, has underdeveloped midrange game and makes quite a lot of bad decisions. But unlike JR, he tries to minimize the number of his mistakes by doing absolutely nothing, which isn't a good thing (but still better than overtrying and fucking everything up). Tyrus Thomas on the other hand ... I love that guy. Makes smart plays, plays hard all the time and plays to his strengths. If he were like 6'10, he'd be perfect, although seeing him in SL makes me believe that he could be a very effective SF down the road, AK47 with more athleticism. He can handle the ball, pass it, has a developing post game, midrange shot and boy, he can defend. He's one of the best all-around psychical specimens I've ever seen. Quicker (both first step/lateral quickness) than Josh Smith and just as explosive, not to mention a great deal longer . A total freak.

OK, well I thought you were referring to me, since I said he has a low b-ball IQ, which he does. I like Rodney Carney, I think he's an outstanding athlete and will be a good player in the NBA, but his IQ just isn't very high, and he will commit some stupid turnovers and make mistakes.

Fenix, once again its clear to see where your biases are. Look at the wording you use to describe both Thomas and Carney. Let me use just one example:

Thomas:
" has a developing post game, midrange shot"

But with Carney, it's "has underdeveloped midrange game"

Essentially what you're saying is the same thing, but the wording greatly exagerates Thomas and criticises Carney. As for the rest of your post, its Darko-esque. Footspeed, potential, explosiveness blah blah blah. Not only is it completely off topic, but he is yet to do anything in the nba and you are making out as if he is a sure to be hall of famer.

Same thing applies with carney, he hasnt stepped on the court yet and you are making him out to be jr smith of all people, who even you admit is a bad comparison.

Rodney Carney is actually a very good midrange shooter, He just sometimes forced bad shoots.
