The Big O was definitely one of the best all-around players (if you look from a fantasy-like perspective). Wilt's numbers are hard to ignore, but I think Jordan takes the title... He dominated in the 90's and kept a lot of hall of famers from getting rings.

what makes me sick is that some of my friends try to make the case that Kobe is better than Jordan

Michael won 6 championship and made Scottie Pippen a top 50 all time player.

... you think I don't know who Oscar Robertson is, then you name Steve Francis? Were you one of those crack babies?

For a serious mention I'd go with Bill Russell. I just can't be bothered arguing the point as it seems most posters here are under 11.

If it's about Winning and doing whatever it takes, nobody is better than Bill Russel. People say that he was great because he had such great teammates, but he's the guy that brought everyone together, he made his teammates better, way more so than Michael Jordan ever did, and you really cannot beat a guy that makes such an impact on the league that he wins 11 championships in his 13 years in the league, along with 2 championships at San Francisco....

Statistically Oscar Robinson and Wilt Chamberlain are the best, with MJ in third, but its not always about statistics, though I'd definitely put those guys in the top 5.

Bill isn't even the greatest C of all time yet alone the greatest player IMO

Bill Russell never averaged 20 ppg, he had amazing rebounding stats, and was a good passer for a big man, he is definately one of the best defenders and the greatest winner of all time, but greatest individual player? i think not, Oscar, Wilt, and MJ were the best... and dont begin to compare them because they played in different eras (except for Oscar & Wilt, but its tough to compare a G to a C)

Bill Russell may not have been the most skilled player. But his greatness showed in his intelligence and attitude on the court. His anticipation and strength of will made him the force on the defensive end. His battles with Chamberlain were epic and although he could not contain Wilt, he always gave him a hell of a hard time.
What I'm trying to say is: Bill Russell wasn't the best player of all time. But in the aspects of the game where Bill Russell excelled, there was no better player since.

I know and Im not doubting Russell's abilities because he was simply an amazing talent and was a complete monster on the defensive end, but the fact is there has just been so many dominant C's throught the years

Wilt
Kareem
Hakeem
Shaq

You see my point those 4(Plus Russell) are the top 5 C's and Bill may not even make the top 3 of that list so saying he is the greatest player ever is a bit out of line IMO.
