i think the chances of him being dealt this summer are about 0.001%, but whether or not he retires a twolf imo depends on this season. He may love the city, he may love the team, but when all is said and done if minny doesn't realistically improve this year thats it. Its not enough to add a few spare parts imo minny absolutely has to gamble.... now. that or rebuild.
from my pov, as it stands, kg will never win a championship in minny and may very likely not win one his entire career ala malone. I guess we will see what happens, but as it stands it seems his loyalty is to winning; and while it is obvious he would prefer to win with minny, it is no longer mandatory.

I say KG will demand a trade or get dealt after this season.
The Twolves don't have much of a chance in the West with titan teams like Phoenix and such. It's not like Mike James can lead a team like Nash can.

I can see why Kevin Garnett wants to win a championship and I cannot fault him for thinking about himself in this situation. I have no doubts that he wants to win one here first and foremost but if it realistically cannot be accomplished then maybe he will split. However, I don't understand why the media makes a big deal about individual players and championship rings. Karl Malone, John Stockton and Patrick Ewing are examples of great players who never got their ring. It shouldn't be a knock on them at all. It should not define their legacy.
Kevin Garnett is a hell of a basketball player but even better person. He has given his heart and soul to the organization and the community here in Minnesota. I respect him for everything he has done over the past 11 years. I pray to God every night that he stays a Timberwolf and deep down in my heart I have that feeling that he will always be a Wolf. I think this season will be better for the Timberwolves than last year...much better. I don't think Kevin Garnett is saying that the team needs to win a title, he just wants to see this team show solid improvement and this team can do that.
Thu Aug 10, 2006 2:18 pm
Calm down Riot, theres no knock on KG.
The point is that every basketball player wants to win a championship, and everyone knows that KG is one of those who play to win. That said, fans would rather see him winning a championship on another team if he isn't getting anything close on the Wolves.
Thu Aug 10, 2006 2:33 pm
The Wolves never really added much in the off-season and with McCants injured I don't think that is really helping.
Maybe if Eddie Griffin would live up to his potential and stop jacking off while consuming alcohol and driving...
Thu Aug 10, 2006 2:38 pm
That isn't completely true. The team has added Mike James and Randy Foye, both give the Timberwolves some much needed firepower. However, the team is still lacking a banger in the post who can help Garnett on the boards and in the paint. Reggie Evans and Kenyon Martin seem to be the names floating around now.
Thu Aug 10, 2006 4:30 pm
mike james

he will be stealing numbers away from kg
Thu Aug 10, 2006 4:48 pm
yeah I think they need something more than foye and james. I don't think its exactly ideal to place the teams hope on a rookie, a soph, and an ex-raptor. To say that mccants and foye are going to be stars is unrealistic, I don't see them being that much better than wally or ricky. even tony and manu needed time, and obviously time isn't something minny exactly has considering their last 2 suckass seasons. I don't think minor acquisitions and youngsters is quite enough to keep kg around in a nasty western conference.
I don't think evans would be a good acquisition for minny at the moment. I do think a trade for kmart would be better though. What they really need is a true star guard.
Thu Aug 10, 2006 5:49 pm
yea a true star guard. not mike james.
oh well we will see how minny plays
Thu Aug 10, 2006 6:10 pm
"Chicago, here I come!" This team improved shit. KG is going to get traded. Mike James doesn't help win you games, Foye is just a rookie who will just replace Mccants, Banks is gone.... Let's face it, this isn't a playoff team.
Thu Aug 10, 2006 6:12 pm
Well, I think Evans would be a nice fit for Minny... They already have Mike James, Foye, Ricky Davis and Garnett that should do a lot of scoring next season. I think Evans would fit in excellently to help around on the rebounds and would provide some needed strength on the inside... He could be a player that could do some dirty work. He could get lots of easy baskets as KG will still call for triple-teams in NBA games...
Mike James and Randy Foye should be good scoring threats from anywhere on the court and thus they cannot be really left alone out there and Ricky is a slasher and thus a danger from all over as well... So in fact things could very well be easier for KG this winter... We can only hope.
If they share the ball well, I can see this team contending for a play-off spot next season...
Thu Aug 10, 2006 6:13 pm
yes but who is kg gonna get traded FOR?
ah thats the question. if they trade him before he actually loses interest in the team, they will get more unlike stupid trade raptors did with carter

If this team makes the playoffs, it will be reminscnt of Kobe leading the lakers to the playoffs last season. But the twolve franchise has to accept this team is in quicksand... they have to move KG. Simple.
Thu Aug 10, 2006 8:36 pm
And we all know who to thank for the wolves turning in to a U-30w team in 1 season from a title contender. Their
great GM.
Great job on not offering Cassell an contract.
Now Wolves have an ensured place in the draft lottery for at least 2 more years. Esspecially with M. James.
Thu Aug 10, 2006 9:07 pm
I don't blame KG. I mean he is so good and his team can't even make the playoffs. He is a hall of famer for sure, but if he can't make the playoffs to even have a possibility of getting a ring, and the organization ain't taking any risk on big name players, then why stay?
KG to bulls, KG to philly to play with AI, or KG to NY to play with marbury would greatly increase his chances at winning a ring.
Fri Aug 11, 2006 1:46 am
KG to philly
I wish....
Getting KG would require trading Webber, Dalembert, and a good young player in exchange for Garnett and some shitty contracts. In the end I'm not sure we should go that way.
As for Garnett on just staying, it looks uncertain, but they need to make the playoffs or he will want out.

Malone and Stockton formed a powerful combo that went deep in the playoffs though, whereas here KG is frustrated because he's the only person on his team who's capable of carrying it to a championship and his supporting cast sucks too much to do it.

It's not solely about the ring, although it proves a point. The Jazz were a very dominant team for a very long era, and had a great amount of success.
Stockton & Malone led the Jazz to 11 50+ win seasons, 3 60+ win seasons, and 5 conference Finals appearances. KG has led Minny to 4 50+ win seasons, 0 60 win seasons, 1 conference finals appearances.
Even without a trophy for either team, clearly the Jazz were more dominant during Malone & Stockton's time.
Fri Aug 11, 2006 3:52 am
Very true, and despite some great years earlier in his career, if KG keeps missing the playoffs, that's really going to hurt his reputation. Part of what made guys like Reggie Miller and Malone/Stockton great was because almost every season they were contending for the title, that's surely not the case, and unless he pulls out 3 or 4 50 to 60 win seasons, or a title, our generation will remember him as one of the greatest PF's of his time, but the next generation might not...
Fri Aug 11, 2006 4:06 am
wow Silas, great post and point made. i agree with u fully, as good as KG is as a player, the next generation will not remember him as we do because he has no championships, even despite his MVP performance. KG is definately one of the greatest players of all time, but for him to reach that level of legendary, he must win at least one championship.
Fri Aug 11, 2006 5:57 am
not neccessarily win a championship, but he needs to compete for one way more than he is now

Sam Cassell did not want to be in Minnesota. Him and the owner, Glen Taylor, got into a war of words in the press before the end of Cassell's last year here. There are also reports that Cassell would go into the other team's locker room at Target Center and tell the team he wish he would be traded to them. As much as I love Cassell, he had to go because he just wasn't making it work.

If Mike James don't hog the ball, he can be that good, and THAT deadly. He could drop 30 on you with no problem

Players like Mike James who put up inflated stats in free agency years are just trying to ensure a better deal, maybe now that he has that in place he'll follow it up with decent yet team-first gameplay.
Kevin Garnett would require 1-2 decent players plus draft picks, and there is no team right now capable of giving that to him. It's unfortunate, but KG is just headed downwards as long as his team doesn't shine. Individual talent is rarely remembered without success. He doesn't have to go out and win a ring, but a good player on a team averaging around 35 wins will never have a legacy.

..While also allowing the other team to win the game by 20.
"Mike James" and "don't hog the ball" can never follow one another. It's like making an improper sentence.
