Sun Jul 30, 2006 11:14 pm

I thought he was older...Does he have a contract with any NBA team or something?

Sun Jul 30, 2006 11:20 pm

don't think so... i think he was cut from the nets a couple years back and has had a hard time finding room in the nba....

Sun Jul 30, 2006 11:46 pm

He was cut because of some salary rule though, the same one that made Dallas lose Michael Finley.

Someone mind explaining the terms of that rule?

Mon Jul 31, 2006 2:54 am

That rule was called the amnesty clause or something like that. It gave teams the opportunity to waive one player on thier team. That players salary would still be on the cap for the remainder of the contract, and the player would still get a paycheck, I do believe. However, the team wouldnt have to pay any luxary tax due to that contract being on the books. Teams like the Dallas Mavericks saved about 15 million dollars by waiving Finley. After a player was waived, he was free to seek a contract from a new team, thus getting two paychecks. It was a one-time deal only though, just a little kink in the ole CBA.

only 30?! wow.. i heard of this guy since the bulls days, i figured he was 35, 36 or so by now.
I guess there is a good chance of a comeback for him.. better chances than Shawn Kemp ever had of a comeback.

Mon Jul 31, 2006 4:01 pm

hes not that old! lol

i think they confirmed the signing someone said?

Mon Jul 31, 2006 4:36 pm

thankyou

 calm down, we all know Mercer is junk and Fitzy loves him. This is the first real news he's had to post for months, just let it go.

Mon Jul 31, 2006 5:09 pm

If I 'ascribed my feelings' on every shit thread that was started here I'd have double the amount of posts I do have. There's no point flaming anyone about it.

Mon Jul 31, 2006 5:55 pm

lol feelings, no its all good its his opinion and hes entitled to it

Tue Aug 01, 2006 12:54 am

Just trying to recall, but i cant right now. Walker/Pierce/Mercer. Were they ever actually on the same team together? Cos i think i remember being excited about it at the time when it would have happened. But i dont remember if it ever eventuated. Would have been Pierce's rookie year or thereabouts.

Tue Aug 01, 2006 2:24 am

Yes, for 1 year or maybe less than 1 year. I think Paul Pierce is one of the factors that actually destroyed Mercer's career.

Mercer's biggest problem (even on teams without Paul Pierce) was that he couldn't hit a three to save his life, which is killer for a guy who makes a living by being a scoring SG. Looking at his stats, he shot 10.7% his rookie year...3 for 28.

But much love to Fitzy for being a Mercer fan rather than yet-another Kobe/LeBron/Wade/AI fan.

Tue Aug 01, 2006 2:52 am

yea, being a fan of a guy that gets cut can't be fun.

"So, whos your favorite player?"
"(insert name here)"
"Oh, what team is he on?"
"Well, thats a complicated question, he's kinda in a trasitional stage right now"
"ohhh..."

Tue Aug 01, 2006 10:31 am

Leave my man Fitzy alone. Joined October 19, 2003 and just came out of his retirement to flame Ron Mercer. If you don't like it, like Jae said, just don't comment.

Tue Aug 01, 2006 11:13 am

well i'm impressed Fitzy took time from stroking Mercer's balls to make a post about Mercer

last time he was getting increasingly annoying with this crap so i can understand how some are getting annoyed with it again

but hey i supposed it could be worse

Tue Aug 01, 2006 12:54 pm

Fitzy are you related to Ron Mercer in any way?
