personally, I absolutely hate all the (c)"rap" that they got out now... makes me not want to tell people I like rap music.

1. 2pac- he had his hard gangsta songs, but could always flip it with songs like "Keep Ya Head Up", which made him more than just a gangsta rapper.
2. Eminem- A lot of rap enthusiasts don't like putting Em up there with the likes of 2pac but his ability for writing and rapping put him up there.

can't forget about N.W.A. and Run-DMC...

and @Pikss I've heard of Immortal Technique... he's pretty decent. Better tan 50 Cent (Y)

and as far as R&B goes, I've really been getting into Marvin Gaye's stuff. I bought a 4 disc box set last year to get myself started...

 As if that would mean anything, lol. But seriously, Technique is great, I love his stuff.

anyone like royce 5'9, cassidy or and the CNN boys?

Thu Jul 27, 2006 4:13 am

Dedication and Dedication 2 is why I like Lil' Wayne so much. The Carter and the Carter 2 were pretty good, but his mixtapes were just  . But I know Joe Budden ghostwrites for alot of people though.

Emo is basically a music genre performed by young idiots who grew up listening to Sex Pistols and...uhm just Sex Pistols.

What?

Today's "emo" is not what emo was traditionally.

Emo was punk that was apolitical and instead emotional in regards to self. What's usually dubbed "screamo" today is more akin to the original emo, but not quite.

You should name bands that aren't defunct.

The first three Kevin listed are great, so is Thursday. I don't care for a number of them, but nevertheless, some more to append to his list: The Sound of Animals Fighting, Head Automatica. Kicking off Kaddisfly until I hear the new album, those five could be my top five bands in teh world. (And At The Drive-In is the greatest band ever and I will not compromise on that position.)

Underoath and Lostprophets are popular with the kids too. 30 Seconds to Mars, because Jared Leto is so fucking sexy.

I am also anticipating Sparta and Hopesfall's next ones. Hopesfall claims to be ditching the A-Types sound and going back to the old. Which, for the time, was the shiznit.
Any one here heard/like The Red Jumpsoot Apparatis?

The Red Jumpsuit Appartus, there, that wasn't hard to spell now was it.
but cultural bias borders on bigotry in my opinion.(music preference has to do with culture)

It also has to do with personal taste. If we're going to start declaring not liking a certain type of music as bigotry we truly are in a sad state of affairs.
The only thing they have going for them now is Wes returning

I believe he has yet again left limpbizkit.

Best examples of original emo are Rites of Spring, Dag Nasty and to a lesser extent, Fugazi. Nowadays, anything that sounds like a wussy acoustic song is considered emo, same with anything remotely screamo. Thanks youtube.

I was running out of bands, and technically they're on a "hiatus." Or ust replace that spot with SOAD, A Perfect Circle, Further Seems Forever, or Weezer. Oh wait....
(And At The Drive-In is the greatest band ever and I will not compromise on that position.)

So I can't name bands on hiatus, but you can name bands that spilt up and became other bands?
Underoath and Lostprophets are popular with the kids too. 30 Seconds to Mars, because Jared Leto is so fucking sexy.

Underoath aren't bad, but they're just ridiculously overexposed. If you need any example, just go to the front pages of purevolume or myspace.

Basically everyone but Durst has left, and he is still too busy with all his side projeccts/producing to finally start working on "The Unquestionable Truth Pt. 2." Good title though, now I know where Gore got it.

Thu Jul 27, 2006 9:20 am

That was An Inconvenient Truth. Or, Al Gore Narrates A Bad Horror Flick Full Of Mistruths. If it had the same name as the biskit album, that would have been too wonderbar.

Finch was on "hiatus" but they're officially done now. They split up and became other bands too! So I'm doubly a hypocrite! However, I did put ATDI as an aside. And I would continue to weasel out of it but where's the fun.

I merely listed Underoath and Lostprophets because I didn't really read the thread before your post until after I posted, then I had edited the post. I think Underoath is a hideous band, and they don't make very good music to make up for that. Yet, they're on the MTV2 endlessly. On the upside they aren't above the fold on purevolume today.

Ugh. Spending too much time on here today, my youth is slipping. My youth is slipping away.

Almost every good band is defunct: Nirvana, Queen, Creedence, etc... Almost all 70's and 80's rock bands are defunct, even the Red Hot Chili Peppers are dying...they're not whate they used to be, after the release of "By the Way" in 2002 they have been converted into a commercial band, and after the release of "Stadium Arcadium" that "commercial band" has been converted into a "very commercial" band... god damn they're making a video (MTV exclusive) for every song of the new album. Even if you listen to the songs of the new album, the style is so damn different from "Californication" and "Blood Sugar Sex Magik", and thinking about it, I don't enjoy listening to the new songs (apart for a few), I enjoy a lot more listening to the 80's stuff they've made.

That was An Inconvenient Truth.

I know, give me a little credit. But I thought it would have been funny if Gore found a title for his movie by stealing it from Limp Bizkit.
Or, Al Gore Narrates A Bad Horror Flick Full Of Mistruths. If it had the same name as the biskit album, that would have been too wonderbar.

I never saw it, just heard a shitload about it. I don't care how much he lied or hypothesized in it, I'm just happy if it gets a few more people to take notice. You have to have something to combat the idiot republicans who say global warming is a hoax, and their proof is they show Gore's footage played in reverse. But thats a debate for another day, and another thread.
Finch was on "hiatus" but they're officially done now. They split up and became other bands too!

Well as they call it, they're on an "indefinite hiatus." They could come back :|

Yeah don't worry, I'm well aware of your opinion of Underoath. While I don't think they're terrible, they're certainly not a band I listen to often. They have a few good songs, mainly when they emulate alexisonfire. Otherwise, if they came up next on a playlist, I'm not going to quickly switch it, its not too painful.
Ugh. Spending too much time on here today, my youth is slipping. My youth is slipping away.

Cold wind blows off the lake and I know for sure that its too late? Geez, count your blessings on one hand.

We're mainly talking about bands from this decade. If it were all-time, my list would be completely different.

As for the RHCP, I don't listen to much of them. I have BSSM and Californication, but I've yet to listen to a single track of Stadium Arcadium. They're like the Foo Fighters, they're pretty good for a band as commercial as they are, but I still can't get into them.

I think Finch's "indefinite hiatus" is just like blink-182's "indefinite hiatus". The members of the band hate each other so they get separated but don't want the fans/media to bash them for being so idiots, so they say they're on an "indefinite hiatus".

Their style is different? That's news to me. I found Stadium Acrowhateveritis to be a bore due to the band's reliance on old habbits rather than creativity and new ideas...

Though it has it's moments. It is the chili peppers after all.

Royce is my favorite rapper that is a little bit mainstream, he has a really cool style. King Of Kings and Boom are awesome.

edit: he isn't that popular, I think I'm one of the only fans but he acts mainstream.

Thu Jul 27, 2006 3:56 pm

Thursday are coming here in October with the Taste Of Chaos tour. I'm going to see them, they are playing with Anti-Flag and Taking Back Sunday (Y)

Thu Jul 27, 2006 6:00 pm

Yeah, they're coming to Italy too, in November... I have tickets too :) I just hope there isn't so many stupid people like in their concert here in Milan, back in May. God damn, there were so many rich kids who didn't know shit about RHCP and just went to the concert because they liked Dani California :shake:. LOL, when the band played Give it Away one of them even shouted something like "turn down the volume"
It's so "" and ":shake:" at the same time.

That new Obie Trice album is good, they kept the 'Aftermath guest spots' limited...which really helped the album. Although Eminem produced far too many tracks, I still ain't feelin his beats (or most of his rhymes).

Thu Jul 27, 2006 10:26 pm

im a big fan of royce 5'9, he seems mainstream but then after a while i noticed people were like whos royce 5'9??? i really like his style, hes like the perfect mix of underground and mainstream. capone n noreaga are also good i like that song invincible

Fri Jul 28, 2006 3:52 am

I love CNN, I have all their albums.. weird though how solo albums of both of them suck (IMO)..

ps. I saw BHZ mentioned Joe Budden, he's fucking sick. Great flow (but weird voice), great lyrics, I still listen to that NBA freestyle from him from a couple years ago.. sickness!!

Fri Jul 28, 2006 4:02 am

Well everyone here is really talking about rap, no love for RnB. I'm really liking Ne-yo at this moment of my life, not so sick or anything but theres a few songs I'm really liking. Here are a few songs (RnB) that I'm listening to recently. I wonder if anyone else here digs them.

Lyfe Jennings - Hypothetically (this man is a great singer and is very underrated, excellent song)

Ne-Yo - When you're Mad
Ne-Yo - Sexy Love
Ne-Yo - Mirror
Ne-Yo - Let Go * You must listen to this*
Ne-Yo - Stay
Ne-Yo - It Just Ain't Right
(I'm really liking Ne-Yo alot at the moment. When you're mad is great and that song is true to me. Sexy Love has a nice rhythm and its a pretty nice song. Let go is my favorite song right now. Stay is his first single and I still like it. And it just ain't right, its a nice song even though its a bit perverted, it still is true though.)

Avant - Lie about us (really digging this one. )

Fri Jul 28, 2006 10:08 am

I dont knw if these songs classify as R&B; but here are songs which are pretty good:
-Pulling me Back - Chigy ft. Tyrese
-How I Roll - J Isaac ft. Julez Santana
-I'm Real - Blue Davinci ft. Akon

Fri Jul 28, 2006 10:16 am

Lupe Fiasco ft Jill Scott-Daydream

Amazing song, great production, great hook, great verses.

Fri Jul 28, 2006 11:34 am
