i still dont see how it will work, will they start JO at centre and hav al at PF? or have him at SF, or off the bench?

I like this trade for both teams. The Pacers are trying to stay among the elite in the East.

The Hawks had a logjam at the SF-PF position...they still do, but not as much now. Players who play the 3 or 4:

Marvin Williams
Josh Childress
Josh Smith
Shelden Williams

The Hawks have some tough decisions to make. If they start Shelden Williams at PF, I'd expect either Marvin or Josh Smith to get the SF spot, with Zaza Pachulia starting at 5.

Or, they could go with S. Williams at the 5, Marvin and Josh holding down the 4 and 3, and Joe Johnson playing eiter of the Guard spots. They're going to have a hell of a lot of inexperienced players, no matter which lineup they choose.

Which makes me even happier that the Suns have their first rounder this year

Hehe..well, a few things would have to happen for the Suns to actually end up with Oden.

The Atlanta pick is Top 3 protected, meaning that if Atlanta ends up with a Top 3 pick, Phoenix does not have the rights to it this year. Atlants needs to be 4 or higher for Phoenix to have the pick. And we all know Oden will go first...so Phoenix would have to package players or picks to trade up. Phoenix also has their own first and Cleveland's first next year.

But now I'm going off topic..

Harrington is a perfect example of a young player with plenty of potential who needed playing time to develop and could afford to learn through his mistakes.

The whole "earn PT in practice" speach coaches give is generally bullshit.

Johnson won't be traded, I think. Carlisle loves him. I'm sure it will be one of their PG's, mostly Saras or Jamaal.

If Oden pulls off a Tim Duncan he's stupid, i mean 1 year in college should be enough. Ohio State probably will win the NCAA tournament so there would be no need to stay longer. (Go UNC!) Go to the NBA earn the big bucks, do all the endorsments etc.

Johnson sort of broke out as a player during the playoffs. He torched NJ when JO was crying foul.

I don't believe Ohio St. will win the tourney in 06 already and Greg Oden seems like the traditional kind of guy that would finish up college.

I think he wants to be a SF...he's really worked on his smallball game, and made a dramatic improvement in his 3 point game last season...a few games ATL won the game based on his & JJ's outside shooting. I'm guessing he' played the 4 mostly because of the logjam of SF's on the Hawks.

I'd guess their frontcourt goes Foster/JON/Harrington...maybe Harrington relieves JON and Granger slides into the 3 or something. They also have Daniels who can play the 3...lots of options on that team.

I'm interested to read Indy's analysis of how this impacts the team.

From what I've been reading, it looks like this trade will be the TE plus cash, and that's all. If that's the case I'm thrilled. It means we still have all our tradable peices to go after 2 more players. However, this trade really weakens us post defensively. Al is actually a good post defender, but we still need a banger next to Jermaine, and we still have all of our trading pieces to get Jamaal Magloire. If we can get a frontline of Al/JO/Magloire, then I have no problem bringing Granger off the bench for one more year because he'll be able to play at the 2 when we play a bigger lineup, the 3 most of the time as a straight up backup to Al, and the 4 when we go small. I'm starting to get excited.
