Salmons, a 4-year veteran with the 76ers, has agreed to a sign-and-trade that will send him to the Raptors, according to a report published by Phil Jasner of the Philadelphia Daily News. He chose Toronto over an opportunity to join the Phoenix Suns.

No one really cares for John Salmons. No one really cares for the Raptors (cept Raptor fans and Toronto folks), so why couldn't this just go in the Toronto Raptors offseason thread?
What's with the love for making a new thread everytime someone gets signed? Even if it is a meaningless signing to a so so team?

seems like newbs get some satisfaction in being "the first" at reporting news.
read: attention whores. (j/k of course)
there is a free agents/offseason thread to post this in.

The Raptors aren't going to be the Spurs anytime soon, but they have gotten much better defensively and have become a lot more well rounded in many areas.
The Raptors have finally gotten a decent big man in Rasho, who can take up some space in the paint and will bolster the interior defence, which helps in one of the biggest weaknesses of Toronto, which is points in the paint scored.
Also, Joey Graham has one season under his belt and wasn't too shabby of a defender his first year, so there is definitely going to be improvement. PJ Tucker has also been another player known to be a solid rebounder defender.
I'm not too sure about Anthony Parker, but if you win two MVPs in the Euroleague then you must be doing something right.
John Salmons is a pretty solid defender as well. I'm not a 76er fan, but I view him as a steady role player that can play Morris Peterson-esque defence; he's not quite a lockdown defender, but still a solid defender regardless.
These guys are all clearly upgrades over Araujo, Bonner, Williams or whatever scrubs the Raptors used last season.

Colangelo is building a pretty good team, what will be his next move ?
Sun Jul 16, 2006 5:08 am
his next move will be to fire sam mitchell and hire larry brown :p
jk
i think he will get rid of a point guard...maybe trade for a future 2nd round draft pick or somethin ? but keep darrick martin he is a good vet and he never complains about minutes.

LOL. . I have to agree with that last statement!! I could have put a better line up than that!! I just hope the Raptors get some chemistry early in the season, I'm tired of watchin them lose

yea its really weird...where is he gonna go now? i dont think the sixers would want to keep him so he must leave! we didnt clear andre barret for nothin
Sun Jul 23, 2006 6:10 am
Andre Barrett was a useless player anyway. For a guy that couldn't shoot, he sure as hell jacked up a lot of shots.
I think Salmons can always join a team that will pay a smaller sum of money if he finds no one coughing up a huge chunk of their MLE for him.
Sun Jul 23, 2006 6:13 am
so is it OFFICIAL that he isnt comming? all i read yesterday was that they were unsure about the deal, although im not sure if this was going to complete or not..so right now i guess it wont happen?
Sun Jul 23, 2006 6:19 am
I'm pretty sure he isn't coming. I think its a good idea by Colangelo though, because this retains a lot more flexibility for the Raptors and this can open a few more deals and signings in the future.
