man thats crazy. I agree it is a steal. Marquis didnt really get to shine under Avery Johnson, and hes so talented. Croshere showed that he can really play when he wants to. After Artest, Jackson, and Oneal were out he really played awesome, but then he kind of flamed out...

Mavs to Deal Daniels for Pacers' Croshere

Mavs to deal Daniels for Pacers' Croshere

10:54 PM CDT on Wednesday, July 5, 2006

By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News

The Mavericks have agreed to trade Marquis Daniels to Indiana for veteran power forward Austin Croshere. The deal, widely reported Wednesday night and confirmed by Mavericks' officials, will become official July 12.

Daniels has been the odd man out in coach Avery Johnson's rotation. He was behind Jerry Stackhouse, Josh Howard, Jason Terry and Devin Harris in the guard/small forward rotation.

Tell Us: Thumbs up or down on the deal?

Bios, stats: Daniels | Croshere

More Mavericks

With the Mavericks drafting shooting guard Maurice Ager, there appeared to be even less room for the 6-6 Daniels.

Croshere is a valued outside shooter for his size. The 6-10 forward has been on the block often in his career with the Pacers.

The Mavericks also value Croshere as a replacement for Keith Van Horn, who is a free agent and appears likely to move on from the Mavs.

I advocated trading for Quis in this thread, and I told you guys it was very likely to happen, but I was sure we'd need to give up Jack to make it happen. Unbelieveable that we were able to land him just for Cro.

This means Jack will definitley be moved now, and Bonzi isn't coming here, which is fine by me. I'd rather have Quis then Bonzi.

Why wouldn't they just keep him? Unless they can pick up a starting point guard I don't see why they should move either.

Thumbs down from me. Dallas could've gotten a better deal out of this if they shopped around a little bit. How old is Croshere anyway? Oh, I guess this means they'll be letting go of Keith Van Horn. :)

I read somewhere that the Mavs wanted to resign KVH for much less money then he got last season. Seems really Croshere will replace him and KVH is gone since they have likewise the same style of playing.

- Croshere is a replacement for KVH
- He is slightly better defensively
- Only one year left on his contract

Why wouldn't they just keep him?

Because he does more harm on the team than good.

Jax is tight... but I could see a starting lineup with Foster, Jermaine, Granger, Daniels, and Johnson/Tinsley... and Jax is definitely the odd man out unless Carlisle decides to bring him with the 2nd unit for scoring.

I like the deal for both teams....am a fan of Croshere's & believe he's got a little more toughness, especially during playoff time, than Van Horn....he's cheaper too....in the last year of his deal....it's a cap move & replaces Van Horn too....Ager can easily slot into Daniels' vacant spot & he's a cheaper option....good move (Y)

the Pacers did well too, exchanging a player that wasn't right for them in Croshere for Marquis Daniels, who should get a chance to shine in Indiana....

Is Croshere a better player to have than Daniels? Probably not, though Croshere has been maligned much of his career even though there have been far worse players than him to play in the NBA. Considering how expendable Daniels appeared to be by the end of the Playoffs despite his talents, it's not an awful deal. Indiana still wins this one though.

Croshere isn't a bad KVH replacement, but he aint worth Daniels who looks like he just might have a breakout year.

Damn Indiana is stacking themselves with young athletic players. They definately win this deal, trading a tall white guy for a black swingman is almost always a good deal.

I think that the Mavericks could've at least gotten a draft picks out of this trade. I don't like it at all for the Mavs. (N)

A bit exagerrated, no? Can I remind you of Odom for O'Neal?

I liked Croshere in the 2000 playoffs, he did well. Then he got a big ass contract and just never played anything near what he did that playoffs.

The rookie pick would have been perfect for there team, since they usually do really good in the regular season and end up having low picks. Take this year for example, they had #28. They couldve gotten a 2nd rounder from the Pacers

What if the Pacers do really bad next year, and the Mavs have their 2nd round pick. They could end up getting a low 30's picks.

I don;t really like this trade for the Pacers. Why trade for a SF when they have Shawne Williams, Danny Granger waiting to take over from Peja but it provides good depth for them.

Because Daniels is a shooting guard which is our biggest hole?

With this move I'd love to see the Pacers go after Marcus Banks. I think a Banks/Daniels backcourt is extremely intriguing, I'd love it.

Surprised we haven't seen Marquis here yet. :)

I think it is an okay deal, but I agree, Dallas could have gotten better out of it.

Daniels was the odd man out in Dallas, this move is good for him. With Peja gone, Granger should be starting now, and Daniels can backup him and Jackson at the 2/3.

For Dallas they're basically not bringing back KVH now, and this is probably for cap purposes, not really much of a basketball move.
