Townsville Crocodiles star Brad Newley has told media he plans to bulk up this season as he focuses on his goal of securing a first-round pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.

Newley, who withdrew his early entry for this year’s Draft after being unable to gain assurance of being a first-round selection, said he is hoping to strengthen his legs in order to compete with the incredible athleticism of players in the US major league.

"I want to try to add a bit of size," he told the Herald Sun’s Rebecca Williams.

"Not necessarily my upper body, but I will try to get my lower body a bit stronger, so I can take the bumps, because you're playing against some serious athletes."

Newley enters Boomers camp this week as his focus shifts to earning a berth on the 2006 World Championship team and says he has learnt much from spending six-weeks in the US attending draft camps and undergoing individual workouts with NBA teams.

"I have learned a lot more about what I need to do to play at that level, not just on the court, but off the court as well.”

"I'm really looking forward to this NBL season. I really want to get myself to the position where I can get ready for the draft next year."

He was in nbadraft.net's Bottom 10 players from some pre-draft tournament thing he was in, definitely needs to improve somewhat.
