worse than his timeout call was his 2 missed FT's....the timeout doesn't bother me as much as the 2 missed FT's (N)

I wouldn't completly blame josh for the loss. Maybe if dirk stopped choking in the finals the mavs would've won the championship already.

I agree that he's definitely not completely to blame....Howard & Terry kept the Mavs in the game....its just frustrating to see a very good FT shooting team miss 3 out 4 FT's in the final 2 minutes when the game could've been secured....Dirk & Terry also missed a FT each near the end of regulation time that could've done likewise....all the players who missed FT's (except Dampier) are very good FT shooters normally (all are around 80%-90%)....that's just choking....they shouldn't have been in the position of Howard making the wrong timeout call....and I've got a feeling that the timeout call he made wasn't completely his fault, even though he'll take the fall for it....

if I was to judge player performances, Terry & Howard were good, Nowitzki gets a pass grade only because he stepped up at the end to keep them in it....Harris missed too many layups....

Right after the first FT they cut to a close-up of Avery Johnson and very quickly he made the 'T' sign with his hands that they use for timeouts. I don't know if Josh had gone to the ref before Avery did that, but the whistle hadn't blown for the TO until I saw Avery do that. To me it seemed clear that Avery called it. To top it off, during the arguing he was holding up two fingers as though he thought he had two timeouts left. I don't know if I completely misread that or what, but that seemed oh so obvious to me.

edit: someone posted in the actual game thread that Avery was calling for the TO after the second FT, hence the two fingers. That probably makes more sense...

According to Avery Johnson, the refs should've understood that they were trying to call a timeout after the second free throw. Btw, did anyone see Avery's press conference after the game? He owned the shit out of one the reporters...

What A Colossal Blunder

The Mavs just called their final timeout. Right about the time they were realizing it was their last, they wanted it back. Too late. Problem is, Wade's on the stripe for one more freebie, game tied. If Wade misses, the Mavs can't stop the clock and advance the ball. There's only 1.9 seconds remaining, so we'd likely go to double-overtime. If Wade sinks it, the Mavs have to go the length of the floor. Not a smart play on the part of the Mavs.

The people that criticise him are no smarter. Avery Johnson actually signalled timeout before howard asked for it. it was a fuckup, but once again the mavs whinged about it. when kj called a timeout in game 3 of the 93 finals, you didnt see him blowup at the officials.

Well they called timeout on accident but then they spent the whole timeout complaining about it. They should have let it go and got into the huddle and talked about what they had to do if Wade makes it. They wasted the entire timeout by screaming and complaining at the refs.

The refs cant notice a backcourt violation but they hop on a timeout call.
Thats BS but w.e i hope the ref shyt on maimi in game 6, I woudldnt blame
josh howard because lately dirk has been doin his job. How can you hit a rim
maker from your hotspot and how can jason terry lean all the way back to get
the shot *nobody moves around* oh well.

damn where's my bryant picture of him crying lol...

timeouts have been given back before.. i've witnessed it myself a similar instance at a bulls game. i had seats close to the floor at Bulls/Kings game. It was nearing the end of the 3rd Qtr and Sacto was shooting FT's. the shitty UC announcer said "Timeout, Chicago Bulls or whatever" after the 1st FT. Skiles went to Dick Bavetta and told him he wanted it after the 2nd FT. Bavetta immediately changed the call and the timeout was given after the 2nd FT

anywho

how about giving some credit to the Miami Heat rather then pointing the finger

THERE WAS NO BACKCOURT VIOLATION!!!

You are allowed to inbound the ball to anywhere on the court.

Avery Johnson claims the ref should have known they wanted the timeout after the second free throw. That's bullshit. If he wanted the timeout after the second free throw, he should have called for it after the second free throw. You've got to be a complete idiot to go on assumptions in the final seconds of an overtime game in the Finals. That was no time to take chances. Careless...
