Raptors Say They Won't Trade Pick For Jermaine
13th June, 2006 - 12:58 pm
Journal Times - A Raptors official was adamant that the club wouldn’t surrender its No. 1 overall pick for Indiana forward Jermaine O’Neal.

O'Neal has been rumored to be on the market for several weeks now, despite statements made by the Indiana front office.

This was pretty obvious. O'Neal's a great player, but he's had attitude and health issues, plus he's got a gigantic contract and plays in the same position and in almost the same way Chris Bosh does.

You could not be more wrong.

Attitude problems? I don't even think I need to address that issue. In fact, O'Neal probably has one of the best attitudes in the NBA.

Health issues? He has had two major injuries in his career. He had a torn right shoulder, yet came back and fought hard in the playoffs last season. Not to mention the fact that because of the injury he made his left arm equal to his right. He can shoot with his left hand just as well as with his right.

He had a groin tear this season, should have kept him out longer, but he came back and played his ass off.

I'm sure if this trade was ever really discussed (JO for #1) we all would have been able to hear LB laughing. No way.

However, JO/Jack for CV/MO Pete and the #1 would be more plausible. I'd do that trade... maybe.

JO for the number 1 straight up is laughable. We would never touch that deal.

Not to mention a combo of JO and Bosh would tear up the East. They would probably make the ECF, and possibly win if they made other moves to compliment those two. That would be a deadly twin towers combo.

If JO is traded this offseason (unlikely) it won't be for a number 1 pick in one of the worst drafts in years.

i think thats stupid, O'neal is 10 times better than anyone in this draft, plus he's young and they need a good big to compliment Bosh

what the hell.....Toronto should do the deal. O'Neal can play C, he's a hard worker and a year-to-year All-Star. There's no one better in the draft anyway. Sure he has a big contract but that's what it will take to get to the competitive stage. Your not gonna find too many players that a real good coming on the cheap.

What's the odds that Toronto's pick leaves after his contract ends?

Why is everyone assuming its Toronto turning down the deal? The Pacers are not trading Jermaine O'Neal for the number 1 pick. Period. End of story. Its a HORRIBLE deal for us, and there is no way we'd do it.

This is just even further proof to put those rumors to sleep.

That is a pretty ghey trade, I read somewhere the proposed deal would be....

Toronto Trades
F- Charlie Villanueva
1st Overall Pick

Indiana Trades
F- Jermaine O'neal
17th Overall Pick

Better trade? Maybe, Toronto would have a siccckk front line of O'neal, Bosh and Graham but I still would tell Toronto "Hell No" if I were Bird.

So Indy, the resident "JO EXPERT" doesnt even know that JO is left-handed. WTF is up with that?

Um... you're wrong. He's right handed. This just furtherly proves his excellence with his left hand.

Wow, what a perfect post to prove my point. :D

He did often slap other teammates hands with his left when he was on the bench in Portland.

IIRC, he broke (or had some injury) his right arm when he was a kid and his mom made him use his left hand to do everything, including basketball.
