The Jazz traded forward Kris Humphries and rarely used center Robert Whaley to the Toronto Raptors for Araujo and cash on Thursday.

Holy shit, how in the hell? I didn't know this was possible? Ahh well, I'm glad to see Humps and Whales heading out of Utah. I like Araujo. :)

Teams that don't qualify for the Playoffs are allowed to make trades up until the conclusion of the NBA Finals, or at least that's what history suggests. Chris Webber was dealt to Sacramento for Mitch Richmond during the 1998 Playoffs, not actually suiting up for them until the 98/99 season.

Doesn't seem like a trade that's going to greatly help or hurt either team, more of a "my unwanted player for your unwanted player" kind of swap with the hopes a change of season will allow everyone involved to grow and contribute with a fresh start.

Knowing Colangelo, this trade will turn out to be good and not even necessarily just for Toronto. But since I kinda like Kris Humphries cause he dunked on Duncan in his rookie year and Araujo is a douchebag, I'll say Toronto got the better end of the deal.

Kris Humphries is definitely the best player in this deal and I think that he was very underused in Utah, very much like Snyder was and then showed his skills after the trade to New Orleans. Humphries has nice array of inside/outside skills, rebounding instincts, decent size (6'10 in shoes)/length and athleticism to make everything work. But that means that Toronto just got another young PF to develop. Does that mean that Toronto is definitely going to trade down and/or go small?

Do not quote me on this but I believe teams that did not qualify for the playoffs can trade with other teams that did not qualify once the regular season has been completed.

That sounds about right. It certainly seems to be the case based on a couple of trades in years gone by.

well i posted it as a new topic because i wanted to know why they can trade already, not to "break the news" on the deal that went down. You think i care about any players that were traded in that deal.

Colagenlo made a smart move in getting rid of Araujo. With the fans not on his side for most of his career in Toronto, I hope he gets a clean slate with Utah and that might give him the confidence he didn't have with Toronto.

I've heard some good things about Humphries and he's got a lot more potential and less foul prone (who the hell isn't?) than Araujo. I'm pretty sure Toronto has gotten the better part of the deal.

Humphries isn't a real centre, but I'd certainly take him over Araujo. Skill-wise, Araujo's too foul prone to have a positive affect on the court, so I'd rather have a serviceable big man than a centre that is constantly lost on the floor, picking up ticky tack fouls and has the inability to finish layups.

Colangelo definitely pulled off a good trade with Utah. Araujo went to college near Utah, so he'll definitely benefit from the change of scenery. I vividly remember a few Utah fans cheering for Hoffa when the Raptors played the Jazz at the Delta center. He did alot better in away games than in home games. I wish him the best. On the other hand, we acquired Humphries and he definitely has more potential than Hoffa. I guess it worked out for both teams, but Toronto obviously got the edge.

It's not that I don't pay attention to Utah, I do. I just didn't expect something to be done this early.

I hope Rafa can show his skills on Jazz. At least he will have more playing time.

He did have playing time for the past two seasons. At least good minutes for a rookie/sophmores. he jus didn't make good use of his time. he was even a starter so ye. but hopefully a fresh new start for him. i feel sorry for the guy. aaha

Its not about giving him minutes, its just that he can't stay in the game. He's either overly physical with his man and picks up really stupid fouls or he makes scrub centres with no offensive talent look like they're Hakeem Olajuwon.

I really liked Humphries at Utah, I personally don't like Rafa's style of game.

But I'll have to give him a chance at Utah.
