New York Daily News - According to a report published in the New York Daily News, two Nets sources said the team has and will continue to discuss whether obtaining Kenyon Martin this summer is realistic and feasible.
The Nets signed and traded Martin to Denver in July 2004 for three future first round picks after refusing to give him a maximum contract. He is still owed $70 million over the next five seasons.
Nets president Rod Thorn says he does not want to trade Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson or Nenad Krstic unless a superstar comes back in return.
This popped up on hoopshype and realGM and Im sure it's on other ball sites. If they can get Kenyon Martin I wonder what will happen and course not lossing RJ or Kristic in the process would be great. Not really sure though what the Nets can offer besides their starting five, if not four to Denver and thats why its hard to see his happen unless the Nets send the Nuggets a load of picks just like the Nuggets sent the Nets to get Martin. But Im just wondering, if this goes down does anyone see Martin going back to his Nets days?
If the Nets can get a decent bench together they'll surely be one of the top 5 teams next season with a healthy and revived K-Mart and without them as I said earlier lossing one of their starting four (actually Kristic is not that hard to replace). Course the Nets can look in the direction of a younger Chris Wilcox who could be even more deadlier than K-Mart was if Kidd works his magic touch on him considering Chris has more size and probably more talent and development potential.

That's an imposing lineup, at least on paper. I'm not sure that it's feasible salary-wise though, especially since the Nets don't want to give up anyone with a contract close to K-Mart's. That's not a bad idea since I wouldn't trade Kidd, Jefferson or Carter for Martin but it does complicate matters.

i agree with what andrews saying, i am a nets fan myself obviously and i would love to see kmart back in NJ but who they will trade will be and issue
i think they will have to sacrifice some draft picks and at least 2 bench players if they are serious about him

There's no way that New Jersey should swallow up 4 gigantic contracts. Either Vince, RJ or Kidd has to go if they're planning to get K-Mart's contract. He'd be a great boost for the Nets since they need another running big, but I don't think he's worth the money he's being paid, especially if the Nets have to give away one of their star players.
The problem with New Jersey is their depth. They need to get someone who can actually produce something off the bench and all of their bench players are old or washed up players that would normally be the 8th - 12th man on some teams.

I say trade Nachbar for Martin
On a more serious note. There is no way they gonna trade one of there starting 5 for Martin.Martin would really need to step his game up to be worth a trade to the Nets. Lets face it why would they Martin if they can get a solid 6th man in the off-season and that what they need.Nothing else and nothing more.

I say don't touch him at all. They already have 3 main guys, and an up-and-coming player in Krstic. They just need a PF or C with some size and defensive force, one that doesn't need to be an offensive juggernaut. K-Mart would be good to have, but I don't see him getting the touches he's used to.

Kidd isn't getting any younger. The Nets will probably never be better than they were this year with their current core of players. I can't see Kenyon Martin helping them a whole lot. He is always injured.

i agree 100% here. i still remember how bad everyone cried or called the nets stupid when they traded him for 3 draft pick. i still think nj came out better in that deal. the nets dont need martin, probably wouldnt even help them much anyway. they dont need another player who makes top dollar to sit out injured half the season.

If they can get him for a small amount like maybe some bench players and draft picks (they're about a #20 draft pick team for the next few years) then it's worth it. Trade nobody from the starting lineup except Jason Collins. But Kenyon Martin, at his previous best, was a defensive monster. Getting him back would help them out if a return will bring out his willpower to succeed.
The Nets have a chance for Martin. What other teams are interested, though?

Yea i agree, if the nets can just give up some draft picks(maybe a couple #1) + Jason Collins+ another filler, it's worth it. The Nets have one of the weakest benches, but even worse when it comes to that PF position. They can always sign some bench player with the MLE and mininums, but a player like K-mart is hard to find, even though he's overpaid. The only thing they need to worry about is K-mart's health.

Hell i hope so. Get ur ass out of here Martin, nobody likes him here in Denver!
