It's a powerful urge for many of the star players that the team they play on is "their" team, which is a problem since most contender teams already have a superstar who own the team.

By that, i mean if KG joined the Heat, it would still be Shaq & Wade's team, not KG's. If they won the title, KG would have been looked upon as a missing link, not as The Man. He'd be Scottie Pippen, not Jordan. McHale, not Bird.

You see it very much in Kobe...he needs to prove he can do it with HIS team, not Shaq's.

I'm guessing KG is the same way, he wants to find a Pippen, not be one.

damn good post there, i gotta agree with everything you said. only way he gets traded and the team is instantly his is if he goes somewhere that really does not have any top rate player on it and i highly doubt he would want to do that lol.

Giving Garnett a voice in player personal choices means that both sides are committed to making each other happy. Does it mean that both sides are frustrated and searching for final options? Yes. However, it means that both sides are still working together and trying to get something done. Taylor didn't say Garnett was going to run the Wolves this summer, they will just ask for Garnett's opinion on my moves than they usually do.

what about Chicago? KG could go to Chicago and be THE MAN. I think that is probably the best place for him.

Why have KG when you have Chris Bosh? I'm not comparing the two since Garnett is obviously a lot more skilled and versatile, but Toronto doesn't have the pieces to trade for him nor can they put off the development of Bosh.

I don't think Kevin Garnett cares about leading the team or being a partner to a current talented player. He's reiterated many times that his one goal is to win and take his team far. However that happens, he's happy with it.

I don't really know if this has been touched on very much....

I agree with your statements about Garnett's loyalty to Minnesota.

But how can you be so sure that management won't ship him off whether he wants it or not?

Only 35% of Minnesota season ticket holders renewed after this past season. The fans are getting upset with management about the bad product on the floor. Fans want McHale gone and they want to see this team back in the Western Conference Finals. Attendance has been low the past two seasons. If the Timerwolves traded Garnett the whole fanbase would revolt against the franchise. There would be no way Taylor and McHale would be able to continue to run the franchise after dealing away one of the most popular and powerful men in Minnesota history.

Not to mention, Glen Taylor has a lot of sponsers and if he trades Garnett those sponsers will leave with Garnett. Dealing Garnett would be a horrible basketball move and even worse finanicial move for Mr. Taylor and the franchise. The last thing you want to do to when you have a frustrated fan base is to trade the best player the franchise has ever had, the hardest worker and the best community voice and leader you have. Yes, Garnett makes a lot of money but with all the qualities he brings to the floor every single night he is worth it. If you deal him you won't be able to sell it to the fans that the team is better off without him.

Plus, Garnett and Taylor are good friends and they want to stay together.

Great post Maes. Even though he could be the man in Chicago or New York too, it will always be sweeter for him if he won it in Minny and stuck it out there. If he decides to ask for a trade, and ends up winning one somewhere else, in the back of his mind he'd always wish it had been in Minnesota.
