Those are compression shorts/socks of some form. Their purpose is to keep the muscles warm so as to prevent strains or pulls to the muscles.

They are actually tights, David Stern is banning them for next season because he says they serve no useful purpose aside from looks

You've got to be kidding me. David Stern is turning into a big piece of ignorance.

if Stern bans those spandex he should make Iverson take off his arm sleeve.

Same thing pretty much.

Yeah they are tights. I had no problem of players wearing them though. Stern shouldn't care because he has already taken away the dress code and nobody really even cares how players look on the floor.

I think its a good thing that they get rid of the tights... It was a fad that was done to death by all of the players of the NBA.

First of all, he is banning them for fashion use. They can still be used medically, as they do help with muscle strains. Personally, I agree with Snakes, if you are going to ban tights, then he should ban things live Iverson's arm sleave, and for god sakes, make Richard Hamilton take his effing mask off unless his nose is broke.

I've heard several times that Rip only wears his mask because he feels that it helps him focus more when he is shooting. He said that when he first had to wear it, shooting was difficult and intense focus was necessary with every shot. IMO he continues to wear it because he thinks he shoots better with it on.

I heard Iverson's sleeve covers tattoos that are "inappropriate".

He wears it because he broke his nose so much, if it happens again it could be extremely serious.
