Big Dog Robinson suspended

NEW YORK, July 3 – Glenn Robinson of the Atlanta Hawks has been suspended without pay for three games for being convicted of assault and domestic battery, in violation of the law of the State of Illinois, the NBA announced today. Robinson’s suspension will begin with the Atlanta Hawks’ first game of the 2003-04 NBA season.

Only three games for assault?!? Seems a little short to me. Anyway, anybody know what he did?

It shouldnt be more, things he does in his private life should not be related to the sports, they better put him somewhere else for a couple of days then, im not talking about marihuana or stuff, that could infect a players game(can u see him trying to keep up with the game ), but things like assault or fights not related to basketball itself, it's not the NBA's task to punish a player for those things imo

My Opinion:

The Problem is, Because they have such a celebrity status and are so high payed and all of that, other people don't punish them as harshly, and even if they do get put in jail or something they can just pay their way out. So the NBA punishes them a little bit so they actually get punished for it...That's my take on things at least.

I think the NBA sees it like this: when a player does something bad, it reflects poorly upon the NBA. We all know the NBA is extremely image conscious, so any kind of disreputable behaviour away from the game of basketball will draw a fine and in some cases a suspension from the league.

its not that he has a hight celebrity status its just himself, his been like this all his career, form the time he missed out the whole trainig camp in his rookie year coz he was negotiatian how high he wants his contract to be all the up atil he had to be traded coz he didnt want to face the fact that Ray Allen was better then him and was the leader.
Threre are alot of players who are higher celebraty then him yet behave their best all the time!

that's a joke, who cares what he did. I'd like to know if there is anything in an NBA players contract which would make the suspension valid. I assume there would be otherwise anyone suspended for "pushing" a girl would challenge the suspension.

A double standard is always placed upon people in the public eye. Perhaps the suspension should come from the team rather than the league.

I guess Robinson's prior problems with drugs, behaviour or whatever he's done (not too sure since plenty of NBA players are getting busting doing a variety of things) have affected the league's decision. I think in this case the team should be the one to suspend him if this is worthy of a suspension. If it affects the team directly they should take measures, but otherwise keep out. Who in the world knows, apart from Robinson and the lady in question, what actually happened? It's pretty annoying that guys get suspended over personal issues. I'm pretty sure that many women who hang around NBA players are money grabbing bitches (whether that was true in this case or not I dunno.)

In a way the league is drawing unneccessary attention by suspending him. If they hadn't suspended him, I for one wouldn't even know what had happened.
