Larry Hughes has left the team

CLEVELAND -- Cavaliers guard Larry Hughes left the team Thursday to be with his family in St. Louis following the death of his brother.

Justin Hughes, 20, died early Thursday, Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry said in a statement. Justin Hughes was born with a heart defect and had a heart transplant 10 years ago.

No timetable has been set on Larry Hughes' return to the Cavaliers.

Cleveland trails Detroit 2-0 in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Game 3 is Saturday at Cleveland.

"Right now, basketball should be the furthest thing from his mind," teammate Damon Jones said. "He has to be there for his family. They're going through a trying time right now. If he's able to get back, that's good. if he's not, were going to continue to keep him in spirit in our hearts."

Not good for the Cavs right now. They need all the help they can get, but Larry hasn't been playing very well as of late.

I feel terrible for Larry, but like you guys already said, the guy wasn't worth the money he was paid this season.

Everyone who came into Cleveland had a career year in their past teams and then became silent upon arrival.

Another sad year for Lebron, having to carry the team.

Yeah, but even in the games he played he was pretty much a nonfactor.

Him and Damon Jones.

Condolences goes out to the Hughes family. Always not good to hear of these things.

As for the game, as much as we need him, I think he should handle this 10 steps ahead of basketball. I think he will probably end up playing, hopefully it doesnt effect him or the team.

Cavs will really miss his 11 points per game (30% shooting) and shitty defense.

(I feel bad for him and his family, though.)

Condolences to Larry and the Hughes family.

As far as the Cavaliers are concerned, it hasn't been Hughes' best year and given their opponent it might not matter in the grand scheme of things. Still, he's had his moments and I'm sure they'd rather make a run with him. But as Damon Jones said basketball need not be his priority right now.

Exactly why. I know you can't help it when you get injured, but teams don't pay you to get injured. He's underachieved nonetheless, he hasn't been playing well even when he has been healthy. In my opinion, Hughes = overrated and was never worth the money he was getting anyway.

STL thats here. I remember a little bit of him playing for St. Louis University in his frosh year. Greatest SLU Basketball player of all-time. I knew that him and his brother were really close and I bet this is a huge loss for him. I hope that the Cavs will win next game.

Probably because he was asked to comment on the situation and what he said makes sense. If he offered fashion advice it would be a different story.

Sad news to hear the loss of family, specially a brother who Larry seems to be close with. Reminds me of Q and when he lost his brother although that was quite some time ago.

I think Larry needs to get healthy this offseason, he's still got the skills and just needs to find his rhythm. Too many players are overpaid these days so I think that arguement is becoming sorta invalid to chuck it out. You have to pay to get them to come and play, no one's gonna walk in for a cheap contract specially when just had a career season and just hit their prime. Hughes was the right option for the Cavs, you can't judge whether a player has been overpaid cause of an injury riddled season just like you can't judge if a player can lead a team without a certain teammate ex Kobe without Shaq which he has proven to a certain extent that he can win without Shaq.

As for the Cavs Bron carried the team tonight, triple double against the Pistons in the playoffs needs real class. He should have got the MVP trophy he's been a lone warrior for this team.
