Ray Allen

Postby Amphatoast on Wed Apr 05, 2006 4:42 pm

Tonight he moved into 2nd time all time on the 3point list (1,719)
Reggie Miller is #1 with 2,560.

Anyone think Ray Allen could catch him?? I knew Ray Allen was good with 3s but damn I never knew he had this much for his career considering he had to share with Cassell and Glenn Robinson in Milwaukee..

he has made 230 3pointers this year and is only 30 years old
200 for 4 more years and he'll be only 41 away from the record...

Uh, 200 for 3 more years = 600. 1719 + 600 = 2319. That's still 231 short.

But I think he should be able to do it. I thnk his advantage is that his shot is so versatile. He can drill them coming off screens, on the pull-up, etc.

oops i fixed it, 4 years and he is close to the record...

i think he can do it.. he won't get 200 over the next 4 years but expand that over say 8 more seasons and he can definately do it.

Yeh definitely, he will beat it by 100 or so I reckon.
You dont need to be young to knock down 3s, look at Brent Barry.

212 for the next 4 seasons is doable... The pace of the game these days is faster than the era when reggie was in his prime. I think he can do it.

If he doesn't do it in 4 years, he will do it by the 5th or 6th anyway.

For sure Ray will make HOF. I mean Reggie Made it.....all he did was shoot alot of 3s, some of which were clutch, may as well book it now for Ray Ray.

Well, Reggie had a ton of spectacular 3's in the postseason and Allen doesn't have alot.

Has Ray even been to the Finals at all? Reggie is a post-season legend, a clutch killer.. whereas Allen is just a damn good shooter with a slick style of playing and a couple game winners.

Reggie Miller isn't in the Hall of Fame. Not yet, anyway.

It's doable. Ray Allen plays an athletic game for a shooter but once his athleticism starts to fade he will have his shooting stroke to fall back on, so like Reggie he might be able to go into his late 30s if his health holds up. If that's the case, I wouldn't be too surprised if he gets the record...he'll definitely have a chance.

That definitely is suprising. I never expected him to have shot the three so well. I think he can break it, Ray Allen is probably my favourite shooter.

Eight more seasons would make him 37. Just noting.
The pace of the game these days is faster than the era when reggie was in his prime. I think he can do it.

Last season: 94.3 possessions a game.
1995 (Reggie is 29): 96.3 possessions a game.

So anyway.

Allen career: 34.2% of attempts are three pointers, 31.3% of makes are.
Miller career: 37.1%, 31.1%.

At 25...
Allen: 35.7%, 32.2%
Miller: 27.7%, 18.8%

At 29...
Allen: 37.2%, 32.7%
Miller: 43.0%, 38.6%

At 33...
Miller: 41.0%, 36.1%

At 37...
Miller: 49.9%, 40.2%

Miller started off the ways of the 80s where you didn't take threes. Then once the line moved in and everyone started firing up threes (remember Barkley?) he started taking more and more shots from out there as he aged.

Now, the question is whether or not Allen will make a similar transition, or if he will follow Mitch Richmond's path and just fall off the face of the Earth. Since he's similar to both players.

Of course, after not missing a game his first five years, Allen has missed 49 over the last four. And four games this year. From 1990-2002, Miller only missed 17 games. Missing 30 in his last three years. That's something to consider possibly working against Allen.

He is ahead of Miller's pace, as Reggie had 1203 three pointers at this point in his career. Due to the whole not taking as many threes thing of the day.

So going by the stats king mr. bailey here..and by my own intuition..it's safe to say he stands a good chance of going down as the best three point shooter of all time. I personally think his form alone makes him the best pure shooter of all time.

it would definitely help if Seattle continues to play in the run-and-gun style that they play right now. if he got traded to the Knicks under Larry Brown for some reason, there's not way Larry would let him shoot those 3s
