Why so much time between playoff games in the NBA?

Postby Mazzocchi on Wed Apr 26, 2006 3:26 pm

I was thinking about that today, becuase I realized the Mavericks And Grizzlies have 3 days between the 1st and 2nd game of their series.

Why not play Game 1, Rest, Game 2, Game 3, Rest, Game 4, Game 5, Rest, Game 6, Game 7

why is there a need to have 3 days off in between games?

Besides, everybody always complains how the NBA playoffs drag on way too long (and NHL) so why not shorten the resting periods between games or something?
Also, this will further reward the teams that sweep a series, or win in less than 7 games. Moronic...

With shorter ammounts of rest there's issues over making sure the games are televised. During the first round is usually the only time there's 3-days between games because there's so many others going on.

I'll take longer playoffs if it means I can guarantee seeing Phoenix play.

preparation. when you think about it, when the playoffs come you want to see both teams at their absolute best. personally, i believe that having one days rest in between games do not provide ample time for both teams to prepare for their counterparts. there's so much the coaching staff has to do - watch film, analyze what they did wrong, then hold practices to show the team what their mistakes - make adjustments and improve. no way could they do all that in a day. if they crammed all that in a day, there'd be so much confusion..

the playoffs do drag though....late April through to June. I don't mind the 1st round though, but as you progress there's days where no games are on....those are painful.

I'd suggest travel has something to do with it as well, when it comes to the series changing locations. The extra day I'm sure is convenient for both teams.

Yeah I spose the NBA should just adopt everything that MLB does, like their excellent stance against steroids. Oh wait..

The reason Matt eluded to, is tv rights. There are 8 series going on, so unless if you have a quadrouble header each night, there is going to be more than one days rest.

yeah as Andrew said it's the Traveling, in some situations they would have so little time to rest, which means less time to train-then scrappy game performance :|

I dont care if they are dragged on, if anything, they can go longer!... I love coming home from school and seeing the box scores, the more days it drags on for, the better (Y)

I don't like the days when they have no games but I suppose they can't do much about it, especially in the late rounds.

how about they cancel hockey so i don't have to watch those crap highlights on sportscenter. jesus christ, you'd think they'd take the hint...

anyway, i'd say give them 1 day rest, and 2 when switching cities. instead of 2 for each or whatever the hell they think they're doing.

I can understand the 2-3 day breaks for the switch from say LA to PHX, but not for the 2 back-to-back games in the same arena.

I love the Playoffs, but think the first round should go back to the short 5 game series. I like the upset possibilities.

I wonder what it would be like to be a 15 year old, acne prone chump who posts his picture on a forum with over 13000 male members, and one female poster, who is proud of being banned in a discussion form for being stupid and yet he feels its such a badge of honour to known for being dumb that he has to do it again.

while i don't know what a badge of homour is, i have no idea what you're talking about. Assuming you mean me, i'm 17, most of the posters don't post, do we even have a female member, and when did I say i was 'proud' of being banned. I think it was a ridiculous banning. If we could ban idiots from America that'd be great, but can't have things our way necessarily, can we? < that's my opinion.
